You'll also find an array of bars and gourmet restaurants on your doorstep. Trionfale Market, on the other hand, with its food and flower stalls, is just over a five-minute saunter. It's hard to imagine a better location for this smart studio apartment, set equidistance between Rome's majestic Vatican City and the upmarket streets of the Prati district. Get off to a flying start with a coffee to go and a stroll around the Vatican's Museums (eleven minutes on foot) to marvel at some of Italy's most revered artworks. When thoughts turn to food, the bustling streets of Prati (twelve minutes on foot) will easily deliver tasty tapas and a glass of something chilled. Then hop over the river to discover Rome's historic centre (half an hour on foot) – or there's a metro station just three minutes from your door if you'd rather give your feet a rest. And when it's time to escape the crowds, take to the green hills of Parco di Monte Ciocci (ten minutes on foot) to admire panoramic views of St. Peter's Basilica – best seen at sunset. Back at home, while this fresh, modern apartment may be compact, we think it's rather perfectly formed. Spend an afternoon wandering Rome's cobbled streets before enjoying an aperitif at one of the trendy bars in this neighbourhood. When you've had your fun for the day, retreat home to this bright and roomy apartment. Inside, it's uncluttered and minimal, which only enhances the relaxing atmosphere. Our favourite spot is the long balcony, which is shaded from the Italian sun by a leafy trellis. Sit out there in the evenings with a glass of wine and admire the views before unwinding with a soak in the lush deep bathtub.

It stands slightly removed from the crowds of tourists in the centre of the city, but you can still easily see the sights using public transport. The apartment is close to the Vatican City and Villa Doria Pamphili, the largest landscaped public park in Rome – it’s a wonderful spot for a picnic lunch and a stroll. The apartment is equipped with everything you might need, including a desk for those working remotely and a bunk-bed room for little ones. We love the patio, which boasts far-reaching views of the rooftops of Rome.

Sip a negroni cocktail on this home's private terrace right in front of Piazza Del Popolo, with its stunning panoramic views of Rome's historical heart – this is la dolce vita. Inside there are more of those inspiring views of the Eternal City to admire – they stopped us in our tracks when we visited – they look like paintings. The classic style living space has lovely polished wood floors, a feature fireplace and an ornate galleried landing. This home is ideal for a couple, business professional or family of three.

Piazza del Popolo is a mere one-minute stroll from this home, or head to Terrazza del Pincio (four minutes on foot) – this 19th-century terrace with its fountains has fabulous views over to St. Peter's Basilica. It's the same walking distance to Villa Borghese Gardens, while Villa Medici is just over a ten-minute walk. Other attractions include the Spanish Steps, a twelve-minute saunter, and the Trevi Fountain, a twenty-minute amble.

Despite its position in an old, atmospheric square near Campo de’ Fiori, Falconry has been renovated recently, and most of the furniture has been made to measure, making the whole place feel very well crafted. Everything fits together, from the parquet floor to the various lamps, and even the terrace is taken care of, and not an afterthought. High up among the rooftops, it feels like a little refuge from the hectic city below.

Tucked into the heart of Trastevere, this home is perfectly located for exploring the city, with trattorias and shops on your doorstep and Gianicolo Hill, the Botanical Gardens and the Vatican all within walking distance. Sure, the traditional style of this apartment, laid out over three floors, may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but you’ll find everything needed for a comfortable stay. And the cherry on top? It has to be the private terrace. Just the spot for sipping limoncello as you gaze out across the Eternal City after a busy day. 

In the Heart of Rome

Just around the corner from the Spanish Steps, this plush little apartment is the perfect getaway to Rome. Walk just two minutes and you’re on Via Condotti, with its famed luxury shops and boutiques, running all the way to the Piazza di Spagna. You’re also within easy walking distance of the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and buzzing Piazza Navona. 

Apart from its super central location, this apartment has lots going for it. Natural light fills the living room from traditional old windows. From here, you can watch the world go by on your classically Roman street. Herringbone floors and high ceilings keep things feeling grand, and the palette of greys and teals makes for a soothing spot to return to after a day in the city. We love the enclosed balcony, where a dining area is surrounded on all sides by glass – the perfect sunny breakfast spot. There’s also a tiny terrace that catches rays of sunshine in the middle of the day, painted sunshine-yellow and set up with a bistro table.

Thanks to the attention given to every corner of this luxury apartment, it really feels like a home. The owners take care of it personally, and it's easy to feel the emotion they put into the space. Sit on one of two balconies with a glass of Italian wine or enjoy a family meal in the light-filled living space (your host provides a welcome hamper or let them arrange a private chef for you). Each room has its own private bathroom, so it's perfect for a family or a big group of friends. A rarity In Rome, this place also has a parking space. There are even some glimpses of the Vatican City from this abode, or it's a ten-minute ride to this treasure trove of iconic art and architecture. It's a twenty-minute drive to the stunning Trevi Fountain or the Baldo Degli Ubaldi metro station is just a minute away on foot, if you want to explore further. For some peaceful green space, on the other hand – head to Parco di Villa Carpegna with its shady benches and fountains, a mere ten-minute stroll away.

Tucked between Piazza di Spagna and the Villa Borghese, you couldn't ask for a better spot to base yourself during your Roman holiday. The cobbled street outside is utterly charming, and even with the crowds milling about a few hundred metres away, it's quite peaceful. The sprawling Villa Borghese is just five minutes away – it's an absolute must-visit, home to lush greenery, city views and beautiful sculptures, plus it's where you'll find the Gigi Proietti Globe Theatre and Museo Pietro Canonica. You're also not far from other tourist attractions – the Spanish Steps are a ten-minute walk, while the Pantheon is reachable in twenty. Inside, the apartment is bright and roomy, with a sleek kitchen and two cosy sofas that you'll want to sink into after a busy. We particularly liked the beautiful artwork of local sights that adorn the walls, and there's even a delicious restaurant downstairs when you don't feel like cooking. End your evenings on the private terrace – just pour yourself a glass of wine and relax as the sun goes down, basking in the magic of Rome.

Centrally located in the eternal city of Rome, this home is a mere stone's throw from several iconic landmarks, including the Ponte Sisto, where you can overlook the Tiber. And some of those sights you might even spot from the balcony, though when it comes to the outdoor seating, we prefer the patio table in the shade of the pergola. As for the home, the rustic charm of the rafters and furnishings is sweet and well-kept. It's worth noting that despite being spacious, this home's sleeping arrangements feature a double sofa bed and another room with two single sofa beds that might be more suitable for children. With two other double beds available, however, it's the ideal pad for a family getaway.

In a beautiful eighteenth-century building, this home occupies the attic space and offers a private terrace right in front of the Piazza Del Popolo, overlooking incredible panoramic views of Rome’s historical centre. After breakfast and an espresso at the kitchen’s breakfast bar – or even take alfresco on sunny mornings – head out and explore the sights. Visit the Piazzo Del Popolo and the other attractions that are within walking distance, or hop on the metro to roam even more of the capital. 

In the evening, what could be a better way to enjoy your delicious Italian pasta and pizza than with an alfresco meal on the terrace as you admire the amazing views afforded to you? Sip great Italian wine as the sunsets on this view and the vista turns to nighttime before you finally retire inside.

Spread out over three floors and exquisitely designed throughout, the designers have taken the best of the period architecture (would you look at those gabled ceilings in the main bedroom suite complete with a private terrace) while bringing the rest of the home elegantly into the 21st Century.  

Sunny mornings call for lazy breakfasts on the rooftop terrace – the home’s hidden gem. Cradled by the crumbling ochre facades, it couldn’t feel more Italian. And if you’re impressed with the view now, wait until dusk when the cupolas of the city’s churches light up. It’s the perfect spot for aperitifs – and the well-stocked honesty bar will come in handy for those.

Keep on top of fitness with the indoor spin bike, then reward yourself with a hydro-massage bath. And for those combining work and play in the city, a dedicated desk space with views of the sunny shared courtyard downstairs should do nicely. 

When it’s time to set off exploring, take your pick from the must-see sights surrounding the elegant Campo Marzio district. The Pantheon, Spanish Steps, and the Trevi Fountain are all less than a ten-minute walk – or a smidge longer with pitstops for pizza al taglio and gelato along the way.

But, ever the professional, your host Michele hasn’t used that as an excuse to rest on his laurels. The flat itself is in perfect condition, and while it doesn’t have the feeling of a family home, that’s often a good thing when it's not a sprawling home with space for all the host's personal items. The two bedrooms are on opposite sides of the flat, which is perfect for groups of friends travelling together, though families might want little ones closer by, or not. We understand. Sandwiched between the river and lively Campo de' Fiori, you're in a prime location to explore the city. The square is home to the city's most vibrant (and occasionally overpriced) street market (Monday-Saturday mornings). Still, this famous foodie haven is a good place to stock up on fresh produce, just a five-minute walk from your apartment. Cross over the stone footbridge, Ponte Sisto, and within a couple of minutes, you'll be immersed in trendy Trastevere. With its cobbled streets lined with charmingly faded facades, innovative trattorias, and craft cocktail bars, there's plenty to keep you occupied well into the night.

Located on historic Via del Babuino and just a three-minute walk from the Spanish Steps, this bright, colourful home in Rome’s Spagna neighbourhood is the perfect base for those looking to be in the heart of the city’s action. Decked out in vibrant pieces of art and an eclectic blend of furnishings, this apartment is full of character and creative flair. We love the Chesterfield-style sofa in the living room, the see-through dining room chairs and the large windows that proffer views over Rome’s tiled rooftops towards the Vatican. However, our favourite spot is the master bedroom’s private balcony, ready to welcome mornings over coffee while taking in the buzz of the street below. After a refreshing soak under the rainfall shower, or an at-home massage organised by your host, set out to see the sights. Aside from the Spanish Steps that are a stone’s throw away, you’re just a five-minute walk from Villa Medici, while just under a fifteen-minute stroll will bring you to the Trevi Fountain and the Piazza Navona. After a day of sightseeing, sample one of the countless trattorias along your street (the host is happy to make a booking for you) or sit down to an intimate meal at home. End the night with a spritz on the balcony, before retreating to the comfortable bedrooms for a dreamy night’s sleep.

Beautiful Rome – a city of romance, history, and style. It makes sense, then, to stay in an apartment brimming with elegant style and historic touches. 

This apartment can be found in the Jewish Quarter, a beautiful neighbourhood with a rich history. Walking just a few steps from the front door, you’ll find yourself exploring 2000-year-old ruins. Amid the fascinating historical sights, you’ll also have your pick of excellent eateries here – you’re never far from your next great meal in Rome. This lovely home also makes for a great base for exploring the rest of the city – you’re right in the thick of things, so you can easily visit all of Rome’s hotspots on foot. Trastevere and its fabulous nightlife are just a few minutes' walk, as are Piazza Venezia and Piazza Navona.

The apartment itself is a stunningly good find. It’s spacious and bright, decorated in classic Italian style using only the finest furniture. There’s something to admire in every corner, whether it’s the pull-down cocktail bar in the living room, or the antique wooden beams. When you need a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, this is a haven. Relax with a good book and a glass of wine before dinner – but will you dine in or head out?

This Roman home is as central as it gets, sitting just ten minutes west of the iconic Pantheon and mere steps from the banks of the Tiber River in a typical historic building. And that's not all this spacious abode has going for it. Placed right in the beating heart of the upmarket Prati district, and just steps away from the Vatican, it’s hard to imagine a better location for this stylish apartment with a terrace. Regular visitors to Rome will know that Prati, perched above the Vatican and across the Tiber, is the place to be. Within its wide, sweeping avenues and elegant buildings, there's high-end shopping and cool restaurants aplenty, but less of the crowds. Back at home, you’ll be surprised how spacious and light this home feels, thanks to those lofty, exposed beam ceilings and doors opening out onto a terrace (a rare treat for a property this central). 

Over the Tiber

Much like its sister apartment in the same building, Green Jay has an air of nobility that surrounds it. Antique furniture, dark wooden windows, and tiled floors all combine to encapsulate the feeling of elegance, a feeling which is common in Flaminio. This isn’t the place to stay if you want to be in the very middle of the action, but you get a sense of calm and a detachment from the tourist crowds, which is more than worth the extra journey time.


Green Jay

You’ll find this charming apartment on the narrow, atmospheric Via dei Coronari (officially one of the world’s ten most beautiful streets), right in Rome’s historic centre. It’s just a two-minute stroll to buzzing Piazza Navona where cafés and restaurants spill out onto to pavement and ancient fountains still trickle away. Just across the River Tiber, a fifteen-minute walk takes you to the endless museums and Sistine Chapel at The Vatican. Housed in a building dating back to the 1500s, this apartment still radiates old-world charm which can immediately be felt by the 19th-century aedicule at the entrance. The wooden coffered ceiling and herringbone floor harks back to a bygone age and gilded mirrors and antique furnishings complete the feeling that you’ve stepped into an opulent home in the 19th century. Though it may seem like you’re staying in a museum, the practicalities have been thought of as well, with a full kitchen for your morning espresso, and comfy sofas around the flatscreen TV in the lounge.
