If you want to get some diving done while you’re in Sardinia, this could be the perfect base for you. This villa is in Santa Teresa di Gallura, just 450 metres from Baia Santa Reparata, a beach known for its colourful seabeds. You can also easily hop on a boat trip to explore La Maddalena Archipelago. When you’re on terra firma, you’ll enjoy the outside space here – the private pool and shaded terrace are where we’d be spending most of our time. Some of the decor is a little dated, but there’s also plenty of charm here – you’ll need to pay for bedding and towels though.

This villa has the feel of a sophisticated beach house. It’s sunny and bright, and it has a gorgeous garden with a private swimming pool. Best of all, it’s close to the golden sands and turquoise waters of Spiaggia Conca Verde, and faces La Maddalena Archipelago. This San Teodoro home is a short drive from the buzzing Spiaggia Lu Impostu. With its white sand and calm waters, beach days are a no-brainer – but if you'd prefer a bit more activity, why not hike Monte Nieddu for viewpoints across the sea? Back home, a private swimming pool will keep you busy on lazy days, while a covered terrace makes the perfect spot to enjoy a tipple or two. Sleeping arrangements are flexible thanks to a double sofa bed in the living area – although, with only two bathrooms here, nine guests will certainly be a squeeze. Sun-seekers will love this Sardinian villa. It can be found in the village of Portobello di Gallura, just a short distance from the sandy shores of Cala Sassari. Its outside space is comprised of two large terraces with plenty of room for everyone to stretch out in the sun – and there are glorious sea views to admire. There's also a private pool. Inside the villa is crisp and modern, though you’ll have to pay for bed and bath linen (or bring your own). When you’re not at the beach, you can soak up the rays on the hiking and cycling trails of the Gallura area – it’s best to hire a car if you want to explore.

While Luculumbu Beach is within walking distance, there’s not much else to do in the surrounding area, so a car is a must here. With an advantageous hillside position giving way to panoramic views of Palombaggia Bay, this home is all about tranquillity. A magnificent villa with its own private beach – holidays don’t get better than that, do they? This home is something really special, with breath-taking views out to sea and a glorious terrace from which to enjoy them. For a holiday that feels like a dream, look no further. 

The villa is sunny and tranquil, with a soft colour palette that allows the view to take centre stage. There are two stand-up paddleboards for you to use, which is a great way of exploring the coast a little further. There are plenty of beaches to explore aside from your own – why not drive seven minutes to Spiaggia dei Baracconi?

Rinse off the sand in the outdoor hot water shower, then start thinking about dinner. Maybe you’ll pop into town for some fresh seafood, or perhaps you’ll get to work in the outdoor kitchen? Fire up the barbecue for a family feast on the terrace. When the plates have been cleared, slip into the Jacuzzi to watch the sun go down.

In the rugged south of Corsica, near Bonifacio, sits this chalet-like retreat in the hills. Wood-clad outside, it blends in with the rolling scenery, where ancient woodlands cover the hills like a deep green blanket. It’s a ten-minute drive into Bonifacio, an ancient port town with a buzzing marina and medieval hilltop citadel. The villa itself is set in field-like lawns where a shady olive grove invites you for an afternoon stroll. The turquoise swimming pool sits pride of place on the deck and is lined with loungers. This apartment sits just a few steps from the sea, and only 200 metres from Baia Caddinas, a gentle cove with fine white sand. As if that weren’t enough, you’ll also have access to two shared swimming pools, which look out to sea. The balcony is dreamy, and where you’ll likely spend most of your time, though the rest of the home is charming too. With two bathrooms, it’s plenty big enough for four. You'll need to pay for your linen unless you plan on bringing your own.

Its central location, set close to the town’s historic centre crammed with wine bars and a restaurant-lined plaza, will come in handy as there’s no kitchen at this home. It’s also worth noting there’s no living space to speak of. But with an impressive private balcony overlooking the island of Tavolara and the Gulf of Olbia for morning coffees and evening drinks, we don’t think you’ll mind.

As for location, Cala Ginepro's crystal-clear waters and pebbled beach are 800 metres away, while the city of Olbia and its many cafe-flanked piazzas is a 12-kilometre drive.

Further afield, the coastal town of Golfo Aranci, with its picturesque harbour and selection of bars and restaurants, is a 25 minute walk or a short drive away.

Dating back to the times of the Roman Empire, Porto-Vecchio is as picturesque and charming as any town in the Mediterranean. This gorgeous apartment sits in a renovated 19th-century building in the heart of the Old Town and offers stunning views in every direction. Inside, cool off from the midday heat in the air-conditioned living space while enjoying the natural light and views across the town. Our favourite bit is the expansive roof terrace, the ideal place to gather for soaking up the Corsican sunshine. The well-shaded dining area has its own barbecue so you can sit down to eat alfresco at lunchtime. There’s also a relaxing chill-out area, with wicker furniture and beanbags overlooking the Mediterranean sea below. If you can tear yourself away from your home's many little luxuries, you're only a fifteen-minute walk from a sandy beach and the charming marina filled with bobbing yachts, while just outside your door, the Old Town offers up restaurants, bars and plenty of cultural attractions including the impressive Église St-Jean-Baptiste.

You’ll find this unfussy villa in northeast Sardinia, around 500 metres from Le Saline Beach and 11 kilometres from the city of Olbia, home to the medieval San Simplicio basilica and a palm-fringed waterfront. The spacious home is actually composed of the main house and a separate outbuilding, meaning that all guests can enjoy some peace and quiet. You can flop down inside with a good book to hide from the heat, but we think you'll want to spend most of your time enjoying the fabulous outdoor space. Follow the path, and you'll find a chill-out zone, where you can relax with a glass of Pinot Grigio as you admire the sea views. And, there's even a sparkling swimming pool – take a dip before refueling with an alfresco meal cooked on the grill. 

If you're taking a boat with you, you can arrange to moor it at the Marina di Sa Jaga, just a short walk away. When you fancy a beach day, hop in the car and drive over to Spiaggia di Marinella for a day on the sand. And, if you're feeling adventurous, head inland to hike through the epic landscapes – there's no place quite like Sardinia.

Spend mornings unwinding on the terrace before heading down to the communal pool for a leisurely swim. 

Should you fancy a change of scenery, jump in the car and take the short drive to the idyllic Plage de Porticcio or head over to Ajaccio, the island’s capital city and birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte. Brush up on your art history knowledge at the Fesch Museum then seek out a harbourside restaurant for a slap-up seafood supper.

Inside provides a welcome respite from the heat of the midday sun, with cool terracotta floors, traditional furniture and local handicrafts. You’re 2km away from a string of white sand beaches, as well as the Marina di Portisco with its selection of waterfront restaurants. The characterful borgo of San Pantaleo is just inland and is ideal for picking up fresh produce for an Italian style feast come the evening. You’ll want to be back home before the sun goes down though, for an aperitif with a view.

Now that's what we call a view. Whether you're relaxing on the balcony, swimming in the pool or whipping up a feast in the kitchen, you'll be able to watch the waves rolling in the sea. Although bed linen and towels are an additional cost, each bedroom is comfortable and cosy – but, as there's only space for eight around the table, we think ten guests will be a squeeze. Location-wise, Costa Paradiso is yours to discover. Li Cossi beach is less than a five-minute drive, with restaurants, bars and seasonal shops also within striking distance.

The view from this villa is simply stunning. From every angle in the garden, your eye is drawn to the Gulf of Pevero, and to the lush scenery of this Emerald Coast home. The private infinity pool and outdoor lounge are undoubtedly the stars of the show here, but the interior has plenty of appeal too. Kids will love the cinema area, and the gym is handy too. The fine white sand and turquoise waters of Porto Paglia beach are just a short distance away. You’ll need to pay extra for towels and bed linen.

Often overlooked for its showier cousin – Costa Smeralda – the authentic port town of Olbia remains relatively untouched by tourism. Discover its charms at this dazzling new apartment overlooking the waterfront and just a short walk from the town's historic centre, crammed with boutiques, wine bars and a restaurant-lined plaza. More like a hotel room than an apartment – it's important to note there's no kitchen or living area here. However, that private terrace overlooking the sea is a nice touch for morning cuppas, and there's a coffee pod machine to kickstart your days.


The Olive Jam

This villa stands in the village of Budoni, within easy reach of the beautiful Cala Brandinchi beach and Lu Impostu. The decor is simple, and there isn’t much space for everyone inside – but with views like this, you won’t be spending much time indoors. The terrace is a great spot for alfresco meals, and kids will love the private swimming pool. We recommend hiring a car so you can get out and explore more of Sardinia.

We love the uninterrupted bucolic views from this contemporary home on the outskirts of Porto Vecchio. The location gives you the best of both worlds —you're within easy reach of Corsica’s answer to St. Tropez (it’s a 10-minute walk to the edge of town) but you can come home to relax in the quiet countryside. The big terrace has bags of space for everyone, and a barbecue to boot. Here you’ll find it easy to unwind after a busy day pounding the picturesque city streets, biking, hiking or just making the most of the island’s beautiful beaches. Inside, this modern apartment pops with a fun touch of 70s nostalgia. The giant statement circular mirror, splashes of burnt orange and wrap-around wooden panels ensure the living area is a focal point, although it's still very much a comfortable place to kick back — so stock up the fridge with wine and make yourself at home. 

The Flip Side

This villa is an excellent spot in which to admire the natural beauty of Sardinia. Thanks to the home's elevated position, guests get a wonderful view of the dazzling blue waters of Porto Rotondo from the upper floors. However, don't be surprised if the paradisical garden immediately below grabs your attention, too.

Out here in among the colourful flower beds and handsome granite walls, you can while away lazy afternoons paddling about in the swimming pool, catching some rays on the loungers or cooking up a storm in the outdoor kitchen (complete with a barbecue and pizza oven).

Inside, the home is spread across four floors, so while there are plenty of stairs, it feels cool and airy, thanks to the high ceilings, stark white walls and terracotta tiling underfoot. There's a discernible rustic theme to the design, from the wicker chairs and natural-themed artwork to the large rock feature in the main entrance hall.

With the nautical location, you might not be surprised to learn that there are two beaches that can be reached in just over a quarter of an hour's walk (Spiaggia dei Sassi and di Ira), while the historic city of Olbia takes a similar amount of time to reach in the car, too. Closer to home, there are a handful of restaurants, bars and discos in the local area.
