We recommend visiting Isola Bella in particular. The apartment looks out over the sea and has a small terrace where you can enjoy the sunshine. Even when you’re inside, the sea views are the focal point thanks to huge windows. The decor inside is chic with a playful side, with charming trinkets dotted around. We think this home is perfect for a couple, a small family, or a trio of friends.

The beach is located directly opposite the home’s main entrance and the surrounding area offers plenty of local shops and restaurants. At full capacity you may feel a tad squeezed here – we think that the place is best suited for a couple. Bear in mind that the pad is situated on the third floor with no lift.

Situated right on the Ionian Sea, you'll have a birds-eye view of the sparkling water, ancient Greco-Roman theatre and historic Taormina from the many terraces. Trust us – it'll be hard to pull yourself away from the scenery. We're also in love with the tropical garden, where wild bougainvillaea scents the air and leafy lemon trees provide shade from the sun. There are plenty of foliage-wrapped nooks and crannies where you can relax with a cup of tea and a good book and bask in the serene surroundings. Inside, you can genuinely sense the 150-year-old heritage. On the coast of the Ionian Sea, the ancient city of Taormina sits in Sicily’s eastern region – a place where dramatic shorelines, bustling towns, and luxurious homes live in harmony. At the curve of this striking bay, Isola Bella Beach is the most beautiful spot for a picnic on the sands while you admire the scenery. But just an eighteen-minute walk from here, we know of an even better viewpoint.

This home is a true example of luxury. While the exterior looks like a monument of old-world Italy that you might see in the guidebook, this castle-like, stone tower is your apartment. Set over three lofty levels, the elegant, modern interiors are only made more tasteful by the generous welcome hamper from your host. Full of local goodies, you can take something out to nibble while you explore your new surroundings.

You can’t help but immediately be drawn to the panoramic balcony and roof terrace. Views out to Isola Bella are simply unmatched, especially when you’re perched on the tower’s ramparts with a glass of Sicilian wine, reclining on a sun lounger, or soaking in the outdoor hot tub under the stars.

Upon the Ramparts

Situated in the ancient town of Riposto, in the shadow of Mount Etna, this compact apartment enjoys the benefits of a private garden which offers stunning sea views. You’ll be able to enjoy your meals out here,  and later, you can stroll directly to the water’s edge. Due to its size, we think this home is best suited for couples or a small family – note that there’s a second apartment in the building so privacy might be compromised at times. 

Sultry Sunsets

This apartment on the eastern edge of Sicily between Riposto and Acireale is a real feast for the eyes. Not only is the building in which it sits painted a vivid shade of pink that's instantly mood-lifting, but it also faces a gorgeous view of the Ionian Sea in one direction and Mount Etna the other way.

You can admire this panorama from the two terraces surrounded by verdant Mediterranean vegetation and palm trees, or out through the wooden windows. Although the interior can't hope to compete with these surroundings, the mix of rustic features and colourful flourishes are pleasing to be among. The patterned tiling in the kitchen and bathrooms is pretty, while the wooden furnishings and terracotta tilings add a real sense of homeliness.

As you can see from gazing out over the terrace, there's a pebbly beach that's easily reached from the home, but the nearest sandy spot is in Riposto six minutes' drive up the coastline. The port city of Catania is only thirty-five minutes away in the car too when you fancy a wander around the grand architecture and a meal in one of its seafood restaurants.

Just steps away from the Mediterranean waterfront, waking up to the fresh sea air each day is only a fraction of this home's appeal. Split over three floors, thanks to the large floor-to-ceiling glass windows in the sitting room/dining room, the transition from the outdoor and indoor living spaces is seamless. With direct access to the swimming pool terrace, you’ll likely have to play rock, paper, scissors for first pick of the downstairs bedroom - that early morning splash in the pool is unbeatable. 

Aqua Vista

When we say this villa blends in with its leafy green surroundings, we mean it. A facade coated in ivy, it sits against a backdrop of towering ancient trees atop a hill on the Sicilian coast. The view from the infinity-edge swimming pool is simply stunning – looking out over the dramatic Sicilian coastline as the Mediterranean stretches before you. Wandering the terraced gardens is like the perambulations of yesteryear when glorious villas were flanked by cypress trees and the sea air was a cure-all. Wending your way beneath rose-covered archways, you’ll find the lounge terrace with plush furniture for tipples outdoors.

Inside, you can feel the fact that this place was built in the 19th century. The hand-painted tiled floor and twisting vines on the walls of the vast dining room are a testament to that. There are a number of grand reception rooms and lounges to choose from, giving the group plenty of space to spread out. Each piece of dark wood furniture, gilded book and upholstered armchair feels like an antique carefully selected. An upright piano in the main lounge really sets the scene. Bedrooms are odes to the old world, with vintage gramophones and lacquered dressers and wardrobes. Some come with Jacuzzi tubs in their ensuites. 

The best bit is, this villa is just a fifteen-minute stroll from the courtyard restaurants, hidden cocktails bars and buzzing nightlife of Taormina, yet you can retreat to the peace and quiet of the coast once you’re done exploring.      

The Ivy Facade

The charming home is situated in a fantastic spot, overlooking the sparkling blue waters of the ocean and the surrounding landscape of Acireale. One of our favourite spots in this home is the wonderful bedroom that is encompassed by floor-to-ceiling windows that light up the space whilst giving you a peek into nature – we recommend relaxing in bed as the day draws in, with the amber glow streaming into the bedroom. The second bedroom in the loft has a TV, making it easier than ever to snuggle up in bed while you watch a movie with some tasty snacks. 

Cook up a storm in the sleek kitchen and tuck into a variety of homemade meals alfresco style on the patio, followed by a snooze in the tree hammock as the children enjoy themselves on the garden playground. Dip your toes into the refreshing water of your very own pool whilst you admire the view of the sea and the relaxing sound of the waves. To the right of the pool, you'll notice a rocky beach, giving you a sense of rurality as you soak up the rays.

A short drive takes you to the city centre of Acireale, a delightful coastal destination that is located at the foot of Mount Etna. Throughout the city, you'll find a wide range of eateries to sample some of the finest Italian cuisine as well as a great selection of tourist spots that provide you with ample opportunities for those gorgeous holiday snaps.

From here, it’s just a short drive to Santa Venerina and the nearest amenities, while Taormina is just a thirty-minute drive away. Wherever the day takes you, this home invites you to relax, disconnect and share quality time together. It’s worth noting the grounds are spread across multiple levels with steps, but you will find a wonderful sense of privacy and seclusion. Children’s amenities are available on request and housekeeping can be arranged for an additional fee. 

Etna Retreat

Tucked away in Madonie National Park, a seventeen-minute drive from Cefalù, this breezy villa is the ideal holiday retreat. Inside, wooden beams, tile floors and exposed stone walls are a picture of classic Sicilian style, yet every space feels modern and fresh. The marble kitchen has all the culinary gear you'll need, while big windows and patio doors open onto the terrace and garden, where a sparkling pool and mountain views await. As the slowly day fades, fire up the grill and dine alfresco under the pergola, followed by a glass of wine and a bit of stargazing. 

When adventure comes calling, pack up your beach bag and drive eight minutes to Spiaggia Torre Conca, right on the coast. Just a little further is lively Cefalù, where you can stroll among the honey-coloured stone buildings, admire the mosaic-covered cathedral and watch as the boats come into the harbour. It's a perfect position for exploring, making this home a great base for a holiday in Sicily.

While compact in size, the place benefits from a large private garden where you’ll be able to enjoy alfresco meals and soak up the sun – you’ll also have direct access to the sea. Note that you’ll be sharing the building with the guests of the upstairs apartment – this being said, we think this pad makes for a great base for a couple or a small family on a Sicilian getaway.

This dreamy home can be found with Mount Etna on one side and the Sicilian coast on the other. It’s a home ideal for large groups or families, with the main villa and a separate annex, so everyone has their own space – both even have their own kitchens.  

Outside, a picturesque terrace leads to the pool, surrounded by lush gardens. The cherry on top, though, is the view. While drifting in the pool on a lilo, you can gaze out over the hilly countryside landscape, all laid before the dramatic backdrop of Mount Etna. The gardens are an oasis, whether you’re swimming in the pool, lazing in the sunshine, or playing table tennis. The covered dining table on the terrace makes mealtimes a real occasion – why not fire up the barbecue to grill some fresh fish? 

The villa is tucked away in the countryside, but the small towns and villages of Sicily’s coastline are still accessible by car. It takes forty-seven minutes to reach the beach, and there are lots of attractive eateries nearby so you can really make a day of it. 

The home’s location at the foot of Mount Etna makes adventure ever so accessible. Hike up the majestic volcano in the summer and ski down in the winter. The base for the summit hike is an hour and twenty-three minutes away, so set off early – you’ll want plenty of time at the summit to take in the view. 

When you return to the villa, freshen up with an evening dip in the pool, and settle in for a relaxing evening on the terrace. Open a bottle of Sicilian wine before feasting on arancini and pasta all norma.

On its perch in the hillsides of Mount Etna fringing the bucolic town of Randazzo, you’ll find this elegant manor house bringing all the old Sicilian vibes you’re chasing.

Climb the showstopping steps to the entrance and step inside this carefully restored home. A glorious mish-mash of old and new, original ceramic floor tiles and lofty beams remain to tell of its historical past. While sleek, marble-clad bathrooms and a made-for-action kitchen are firmly in the 21st Century. 

Groups of friends or extended family will love the separate annex housing a sitting room, kitchen, and two bedrooms for that added sense of space. But it’s the gardens outside impressing us the most. With large terraces hugged by citrus groves, tiers of dry-stone walls, and Sicilian hills beyond, the views out here look good from every angle. Spend lazy, hazy days hopping between the heated pool and tasteful sun loungers. Get together for Mediterranean alfresco feasts under the shady veranda. And then slope away to that outdoor antique daybed – it’s got siestas written all over it.

When it’s time to dip your toes into the local culture, the nearby medieval town of Randazzo (a five-kilometre drive) is an afternoon well spent. For something a little more glitzy, mingle with the high-rollers down at the chic resort town of Taormina (40-kilometre drive). Or pack up a picnic and head for the silky sands of Giardini Naxos – the scenic 30-kilometre journey is worth the drive alone.

This former fisherman's cottage, situated right by the rocky shoreline and overlooking water in the picturesque village of Santa Tecla, has been lovingly renovated by your hosts to create an alluring home that caters to all your needs.

Unique, original features have been carefully preserved, maintaining the home's charm, while comfortable contemporary furnishings have been added alongside carefully chosen antique pieces to create a characterful space that's a real pleasure to spend time in.

An open-plan layout on the ground floor allows plenty of light in through double doors that lead out into a private garden at the rear. In addition to an outdoor dining space, there's an inviting Jacuzzi tub bubbling away, plus steps leading down to the rocky shoreline and direct access from the rocks for swimming in the crystal-clear waters of the Ionian Sea.

This coastal cottage is well placed for access to a small selection of restaurants, pizzerias and a conveniently located mini market, while there's a weekly Saturday market a kilometre away in Acireale for stocking up on local produce. From here, you can head an hour or so further inland to explore Etna Park, home to the island's iconic volcano, or drive forty minutes north along the coast to the ever-popular and picturesque city of Taormina.

Bounty of the Sea

Sunshine and sea views are always a winning combination, and adding in this attractive Sicilian home to the mix takes it to the next level. This home can be found just outside of Cefalù, perched above a small bay of turquoise sea. 

The villa is modern and stylish with a cool and calm colour palette that lets the views outside do the talking. You can expect clean white tones and splashes of blue to focus on the coastal location. Everything you might need has been considered by experienced and thoughtful hosts, so your only job is to sit back, relax, and enjoy. 

The outside space is spectacular. A vast well-tended garden means there’s no shortage of sunbathing spots, and little ones can run around freely. The terrace is a lovely spot for alfresco dining, whether you’re tucking into a family breakfast of fresh fruit and pastries, or settling down for a feast of pasta and seafood in the evening. 

The villa has direct access to the rocky beach of the bay, so you can start each day with a swim in the clear blue sea. It takes nine minutes to walk to Spiaggia di Settefrati, where you can set up camp on the sand for a day of splashing in the shallows. Cefalù is a twelve-minute drive from the villa, and well worth the trip. Meander along the narrow streets eating gelato, and be sure to check out the Norman cathedral before popping into a trattoria for lunch.

It's only a few minutes by car to the beaches in Giardini Naxos, while the hilltop town of Taormina is less than 10 kilometres away. Even back home, you can enjoy the idyllic setting – head up to the rooftop terrace and you'll be treated to panoramic views of Mount Etna. Plus, with a seasonal pool, three comfortable bedrooms, and the ability to bring small pets for a fee, it's no wonder this home ticks all our boxes.

With panoramic windows framing a jaw-dropping view over the Bay of Palermo in one direction and the Madonie Mountains tumbling towards the sea in the other, this exceptional villa offers a relaxing retreat for the whole family.

When you want to venture out, Nebrodi National Park offers wonderful walks and hikes, while nearby Caronia Marina boasts plenty of fantastic restaurants and bars.

You'll find this breezy villa less than 10 kilmoteres from Taormina. It's the perfect location for a coastal stay, as the beaches at Giardini Naxos, Isola Bella, and Mazzarò are all within easy driving distance. Back home, the private pool makes an excellent alternative to the Ionian Sea. After a dip, take in the mountain views on the balcony – a glass of Sicilian wine, optional – or gather on the terrace for an alfresco dinner.
