Amid 2.5 acres of olive and citrus trees, this home opens its doors to the natural beauty of the Sicilian countryside. Outside, there’s a private pool and plenty of shady spots to relax and unwind. The rooms might be basic, but we think most of your time will be spent in the garden or out exploring the region. From here, it’s just two kilometres to the baroque town of Noto, while the sandy beaches of the Vendicari nature reserve are also within easy driving distance. 

Sicilian Pearl

Offering a plethora of outdoor spaces to stretch out in, this one-storey villa in southeastern Sicily struck us as perfect for sun-seekers. From the terrace, you can enjoy fine food while scanning the local area and overlooking the pool. Inside, the living room felt a little cluttered and the kitchen on the smaller side, but the French doors in each bedroom are a nice touch – you're never far from the sun here. Meal times are a breeze thanks to the nearby supermarkets and restaurants – just a short drive away. And further afield, sandy beaches are 6km away, and the charmingly Baroque Noto is only a 1.5km drive.

The Palladian Smile

This sprawling estate is a collection of five separate villas, all a short walk from each other. Four of the villas have private swimming pools and the fifth has a hot tub for long soaks, and all have covered terraces for dining, reclining and unwinding. Of course, between five separate buildings, you’ve got five full kitchens and living rooms and one of the villas is all on one floor, so may suit those with limited mobility. Apart from having oodles of space for massive groups to spread out, this complex is just two kilometres from the beautiful Baroque town of Noto for days out. 

The High Tone

You can almost feel the sizzle of the Sicilian sun from the photographs of this stunning home. An understated, calming neutral colour scheme is accentuated with tropical plants and thoughtful design touches (check out those chandeliers) to create a stylish, but not cluttered, environment. In a twenty-minute drive, be in the heart of the historic city of Syracuse, famous for its rich Greek and Roman history, culture, amphitheatres, architecture, and being the birthplace of the pre-eminent mathematician and engineer Archimedes. Friendly Fronds

Hidden among the olive trees of Syracuse, this home caught our eye with its seafront location and peaceful garden. It’s also a great base from which to explore the most stunning spots of the region – the Baroque cities of Syracuse and Noto are a short drive away, while the beaches of Avola and Fontane Bianche are also within easy reach. You will need a car here, but your host can help organise car rentals along with a range of excursions. And while the rooms are basic, we think most of your time will be spent outside, admiring the views from the jacuzzi. 

The Garden of Life

Located in the heart of the Val di Noto, this contemporary hideaway offers peace, privacy and beautiful views. Outside, you can spend leisurely days by the swimming pool. There are also two terraces and a barbecue – making it easy to savour the sweetness of Italian living. Families will appreciate the games room and the open-plan living space. Plus, children’s amenities can be arranged on request and well-behaved pets are welcome with prior approval from the host. You will need to bring your own essentials, but it’s just a 5-kilometre drive to the nearest amenities in Rosolini, while the nearest beaches are just 15 kilometres away.

Flanked with olive trees at the gated entrance, this charming Sicilian residence offers an authentic taste of Italian culture from the get-go. The outdoor spaces include a large swimming pool and a large roof terrace with a relaxation corner, dining area and barbecue in the main garden area. As well as a rooftop terrace boasting an open-air kitchen and dining area which provides a stunning vantage point for views of the bucolic landscape. Get the grill going and serve up a dreamy Italian spread featuring barbecued meats and fish from the local farmer's market, paired with Italian wine (of course) while you take in the stunning vistas as the sun goes down over the horizon in the distance. Bliss. 



Quadrata

Occupying a prime seaside position on Sicily's southeast coast, this stunning villa offers everything you could want for an Italian escape. A crisp and clean interior keeps things simple, which makes complete sense once you get your first glimpse of the view from the terrace.

This beautiful verandah leads directly off the l. It offers a shaded dining area, plenty of seating around its perimeter, and easy access to the sun loungers dotted about the lawn. A short stretch of rocky shoreline is all that separates you from the sea, making the lack of a swimming pool a non-issue, as you can simply take a few steps straight into the inviting azure sea when you want to cool off.

If you prefer to feel the sand between your toes, Spiaggia Fontane Bianche is just over a kilometre away. This popular spot offers fine golden sand and dazzling blue waters backed by a small selection of bars and restaurants, where you can dine on fresh Sicilian seafood as you look out over the ocean.

When you've had enough of topping up your tan for the day, why not drive the 16km to the historic city of Syracuse, known for its ancient ruins and the lovely island of Ortigia. In addition to the history, you'll uncover a spectacular selection of lively bars, traditional restaurants and plenty of shops to pick up a holiday memento or two.

An hour or so south, the charming Baroque towns of Noto, Modica and Ragusa make for fascinating day trips. In addition, we'd recommend stepping back in time on a visit to the former fishing village of Marzamemi on Sicily's southern tip.
