In the east of Sicily, where the blue waters of the Ionian Sea lap the shores, there’s no better place to be than on the coast. That said, when you’ve got your very own slice of the seaside in this home, it might be tempting to stay put.

Sitting right on the island’s coastline, your Martini isn’t the only thing on the rocks. This villa has its own private access path down to the shore. But if wild swimming isn’t your thing, you’ve also got a huge infinity pool on your terrace. Of course you’ll escape to the beach as often as possible, but the lively fishing village of Marzamemi is utterly charming and reachable by car in eight minutes.

When you've had enough of topping up your tan for the day, why not drive the 16km to the historic city of Syracuse, known for its ancient ruins and the lovely island of Ortigia. In addition to the history, you'll uncover a spectacular selection of lively bars, traditional restaurants and plenty of shops to pick up a holiday memento or two.

An hour or so south, the charming Baroque towns of Noto, Modica and Ragusa make for fascinating day trips. In addition, we'd recommend stepping back in time on a visit to the former fishing village of Marzamemi on Sicily's southern tip.
