This elegant home in Tuscany is in a dreamy spot in a valley, in a countryside setting that leads to absolute relaxation. The villa is full of character, with antique furniture and wooden beams, in addition to mesmerising views. 

The outside space is lush and pretty. Roses and lavender have been planted alongside a wealth of trees, making the garden feel like an oasis. In the morning, sip coffee at the table under the gazebo, admiring the views and planning your day. If you’re anything like us, you won’t be able to resist a dip in the hedge-lined swimming pool for long. Dry off on a sun lounger with a good book, or start a table tennis tournament with your friends. 

In the evening, set up outside at the long dining table. You might like to arrange for a local chef to come and cook for you – that way you can enjoy a cocktail hour on the terrace before dining as the sun sets beyond the valley. 

The villa is only a short walk along the river to the centre of peaceful Poggibonsi, so you can easily dine out in the local restaurants or grab a gelato. Montemorli vineyard is just a twenty-minute walk up the hill, while the medieval beauty of San Gimignano is a mere twenty-one-minute drive away. Slightly further afield, you can be in Siena in thirty minutes, and Florence in an hour.

The apartment has been converted from the old barn of the farm, lovingly transformed into a traditional Tuscan home. You can look forward to wooden beams and shutters, antique furniture, and stunning views of the Tuscan countryside – it’s the perfect rustic escape. A fifteen-minute stroll will take you into the small country village of Vico d’Elsa, where you’ll find a fabulous pizzeria and a restaurant, as well as somewhere to stock up on groceries – ideal if you’re planning to cook on the barbecue. 

San Gimignano and its iconic towers are a twenty-two-minute drive. It’s a wonderful day trip – spend your time meandering around the narrow cobbled streets, stopping to enjoy coffee and gelato in a piazza, and soaking up the atmosphere of this historic town. 

Whether you spend your visit traversing the towns of Tuscany or prefer to stay close to home, you’ll be happy to have chosen this lovely spot. This charming apartment is in the old town of Colle di Val d'Elsa, a typically medieval region of Tuscany famous for crystal glass production. It’s a ten-minute stroll into the centre where you’ll find restaurants, cafés and archaeological museums beyond the ancient town walls. Further afield, the city of Siena is a half-hour drive away, ideal for a day trip.

The apartment itself is housed in a striking 16th-century building just outside the bridge that leads to il Castello. Wood beams on display hark back to the building’s roots, but the decor is decidedly modern. Vibrant modern art is displayed above the plush, L-shaped sofa and the kitchen is a sleek space of white cabinets. The best bit is the view from French-style windows, which shows off golden fields and hills, even though you’re a short walk from the town centre.

As you walk about the house for the first time, you might find it difficult to single out a favourite room. There's a timeless elegance to the dining room surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows and centred around a grand piano, while the neighbouring kitchen is surprisingly modern in style and is sure to excite those with a culinary calling. 

And that's before we've even got around to the impressive grounds. On summer days, the swimming pool surrounded by leafy vegetation is sure to beckon, but there's also a wealth of peaceful spots out on the various terraces. As if that wasn't enough, guests are also blessed with a tennis court, which can be found about 500m from the home.

With this much to occupy you at the address, you just might never feel the need to leave, but San Gimignano – about 3km away – is well worth a visit. When you walk the grounds in search of new angles to photograph, you might stumble upon a wood-burning oven and picnic style-benches. Get the family together and venture down to barbecue lunch and dine alfresco in the shade of the towering trees. 

With another home on the property, you’ll likely make new friends around the communal pool when you’re spending lazy days in the sunlounger. Catch up on a novel, drink in hand, as the aroma of olives from the nearby tree drifts to you on the breeze.

It is 35km from Florence, making a day trip to the city easy. While you are there, be sure to sample some of the excellent wines from the region. After a day of exploring, kick back on the sofa in your opulent living room, before retreating to the serene calm of the bedroom for a perfect night’s sleep. With its romantic setting and unbeatable location, this would be the perfect getaway for couples.

The historical cities of Florence, Lucca, and Pisa are all within driving distance, so this is the perfect opportunity to tick them all off your bucket list. Even closer to home, you can explore the many charms of San Gimignano, the hilltop town with a rich history. Busy days of sightseeing can be offset with peaceful bicycle rides or perhaps a Chianti vineyard tour. And, you can always take a bottle of red back to the house to enjoy on the terrace after a few lengths in the swimming pool – perfection.

There’s something rather palatial about this Tuscan villa. Perhaps it’s the stone urns atop rooftop crenellations or the green shutters against the ombre facade. Or it could be the cypress trees, standing straight as footsoldiers in the sprawling grounds. Whatever it is, we could spend days in the grounds alone where olive groves and vineyards spread across the rolling hills around and the garden is home to secret seating nooks and a sleek swimming pool. Our favourite spot is dining beneath the tunnel trellis, dappled with greenery.

Everything about the interior is grand, from the painted, wrought-iron bedsteads to carriage clocks on the mantel and gilded mirrors on the walls. Antique furniture adorns every bedroom and curios from a bygone era are on display. Think Victorian cameras and brass weighing scales in the kitchen. Plush livings rooms are lit by the glow of candelabra and there’s an upright piano in the hall. 

In terms of location, it’s a twenty-minute drive to the beautiful medieval city of Siena, and less than an hour’s drive from Florence for a day trip to the galleries and buzzing piazzas.

This home is located in the medieval village of San Donato in Poggio and offers stunning views of the Chianti hills. The property features a large park, vineyards and a wood-burning oven and a barbecue on the wide terrace. There is also a swimming pool under nicely smelling olive trees. The apartment has two bedrooms, a bathroom with shower and a kitchen-living room with a sofa bed.

This apartment is part of a beautiful agriturismo in San Donato, in the heart of Tuscany. Views of the Chianti Hills can be enjoyed from almost every angle, and there are vast grounds so you can spend much of your time outside. The gardens and pool are shared with the other guests of the agriturismo, as is the wide terrace with its wood-burning oven and barbecue. You’ll be just a short drive from the ancient medieval village of San Donato in Poggia, a marvellous spot for lunch in a trattoria.

This apartment shares its location with a family-run farm in pretty Montespertoli. The family produces wine and olive oil from a picturesque spot amid the gentle Chianti hills, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and woods – it’s delightfully rustic. 

The apartment sits within these grounds, benefitting from the large garden and beautiful views. It has its own private garden too, just off the bedroom – the perfect romantic setting for a glass of wine and some stargazing. Traditional features like stone walls and a terracotta floor add to the romance of the apartment, as does the four-poster bed. 

When you’re not exploring the surrounding woodland and countryside on foot, you might like to venture further afield to take in more of wonderful Tuscany. The medieval town of San Gimignano is forty-one minutes away by car, and it takes forty-seven minutes to get to Siena. Wander through these historic towns with a gelato, taking in the architecture and shopping for keepsakes. When you return to the apartment, enjoy an alfresco dinner while admiring the view – it's the ideal way to round off your day.
