The home is a result of a three-way collaboration between the owner, a leading Venetian architect and one of France's top interior designers – the overall effect is beyond luxe. From the gleaming terrazzo floors and the sleek Italian furniture collection to the opulent marble bathrooms, you couldn't hope for a more refined place to stay in the Floating City. There are superb views of the Grand Canal from most of the rooms too. Watch the sun go down over the water and behind the domes of Salute Church from the terrace with a glass of complimentary Prosecco – we adore the vistas here. If you can't bear to leave your graceful home, the hosts can arrange high-end catered meals for up to fourteen guests in the beautiful dining room. The location is as dazzling as this gorgeous home – historic San Marco is right on your doorstep. Hop in a water taxi from the private jetty outside, and spend your days exploring the backwaters of this most romantic of cities, followed by a passeggiata down to Piazza San Marco for dinner (ten minutes on foot). This place is truly amazing – we did think of keeping it all to ourselves.

We especially love the spectacular marble balcony, offering a front-row seat to the Grand Canal's ebb and flow.

The main bedroom enjoys its own en-suite, and while you won't have views in all the bedrooms here, the location is great. You won't be fully central, but you're never far from the action and you might hear some outside noise during your stay. You'll find a variety of restaurants, bars, and shops close by, as well as Vaporetto stops for easy travel across this iconic city.

On the top floor of a 19th-century palazzo close to the Piazza San Marco, this airy apartment hits the sweet spot between history and contemporary design. This is one of those places that starts out great and just gets better and better. You know you've hit the jackpot as you approach the building – an 18th century Grand Canal palace in one of the best locations in the city. The entrance is a beautiful mix of old and new, with classical statues and a state-of-the-art lift up to your top floor apartment. It all bodes well, and the payoff is impossible to miss. From the terrace of this gorgeous home, there are views over this most famous of canals to the bell tower of St Marks – and right the way to the snow-capped Dolomites mountains beyond. The sitting room is impressive, with its renaissance-style windows leading out to the alfresco dining space. On top of that, there are marble bathrooms with stunning bisazza tiles and a kitchen with high-end appliances and a professional wine fridge. But it’s the attention to detail in the bedrooms that sets this place apart, with custom-made furniture and beautiful hand-painted walls. Take in the home's original pieces and period mouldings overhead as you nod off. Right in the centre of things, there is much to see and do right on your doorstep. Take a fifteen-minute stroll to St. Mark's Square for its striking architecture and beloved Basilica. Hop on a gondola past the Rialto Bridge nearby, and ensure you sample the local cuisine for a real taste of Venice.

With an illustrious list of previous residents, this spectacular Venetian palazzo is the finest we've ever seen. If only the walls could speak. Rich in treasures, it's a perfect example of the masterpieces that result from blending tradition and innovation. Imagine this incredible piano nobile in its heyday ringing with laughter and conversation of intellectuals, artists and poets. With its original sparkling terrazzo floors and magnificently restored frescoes from the 1600s, you can easily envisage Casanova dropping by, which neatly brings the conversation round to the exquisite bedrooms. The sumptuous master bedroom has gorgeous pastoral frescoes, while the stunning bathroom boasts decadent dark marble and antique mosaics around the tub, perfect for a luxurious soak. The writer and philosopher Friedrich Nietzche once lived here, and the extensive library in one of the bedrooms, with splendid original wood panelling, pays tribute to him. Relax in luxury on the designer sofas or drink up the atmosphere on the magnificent terrace accessed via the elaborate art-nouveau door. This masterpiece was designed by the Murano artist Napoleone Martinuzzi, who also once resided at the palazzo. Step outside, and the majority of Venice's sights are just a short walk or water taxi ride away – make your way to the renowned St Mark's Square in around twenty minutes on foot. Relax on the oversized leather sofa scattered with precious, jewel-coloured Fortuny cushions or entertain in style at the designer dining table, placed strategically in front of the large Grand Canal-facing windows. Your guests will be queuing up to cook in the state-of-the-art kitchen with its mesmerising vistas of the Rialto Bridge – could this kitchen have the most beautiful view in Venice? We think so.

If you want to admire the Rialto Bridge up close, it's just over a five-minute walk, while art lovers can head to the Accademia Gallery, ten minutes on foot.


Bianco Palazzo 

Housed in an old, white palazzo on Venice’s Grand Canal, you can watch the water taxis and gondolas drift by from this traditional apartment. The building’s water door means you can rock straight up to the ancient entrance hall from a vaporetto, and head out to the sights of the city straight from the water. The Rialto Bridge is just a couple of minutes' boat ride down the canal. If you prefer to explore on two feet, a 13th-century church holding works by Titian is a two-minute stroll and the surrounding streets and filled with ancient piazzas, gelaterias and family-run trattoria. 

Inside, the cracked wood-beams whisper of days gone by and have been given up a refreshing lick of white paint to lighten up the living and dining room. Marble flooring keeps things cool underfoot and the decor is decidedly minimalist and sleek. In the master bedroom, you’ve got a fabulous view of old Venice’s rooftop from a long window – a delight to wake up to every morning.
