How about spending a vacation in a country house that is very close to the city and all tourist activities? While in the center people live a normal and fast city life, in the high zones, near the mountains, the calm and country atmosphere is a reality. In this small villa composed by three nice properties, you can enjoy all the calm and serenity with a wide view of the Atlantic Ocean and Funchal. This small 'farmhouse' has three stone-walled houses, each named after a tree on our island. The Cedro boasts a bedroom with two single beds, a bathroom with shower, and a fully equipped kitchenette. With its rustic charm and panoramic views, it offers maximum capacity for two people. Located in Santa Maria Maior, Madeira, this enchanting haven is nestled amidst lush gardens and offers tranquility while being just a short drive from restaurants, bakeries, supermarkets, and the city center.

This extensive functional home puts you right in the heart of Funchal – both geographically and historically. Not only will you be bang in the centre, next to the Farmers’ Market, but your large room was constructed as part of a traditional old Madeiran embroidery factory – and mementos are profusely distributed around the property. Its past means you will have plenty of light via the tall windows and high ceilings, while the minimalist monochrome décor is calming, clean and uncluttered. Perhaps the centrepiece of this comfortable home is the communal terrace which has its own kitchen and plenty of tables and chairs for al fresco dining – plus a hanging wicker chair that seats two for a more intimate night ‘in’. Your home is the hub for touring the island, with a bus stop right outside, and all of Funchal’s many restaurants, cafes, bars and shops are reachable on foot. You’ll see this magical island fancy-free but always want to return to this comfortable, unembroidered, relaxing base.

Still, our favourite spot, without a shadow of a doubt, is the infinity swimming pool (preferably with a cold beverage in hand). Relish in the open air, with the manicured gardens, alfresco dining areas and secluded balcony corners for moments of reflection – all while pinching yourself that this is real. 

Inside, wonderful artwork selections and finishing touches create an atmospheric space dripping in antique Madeiran elegance. The home's central hub extends upwards with two-story ceilings and a large salon – perfect for hosting receptions or social affairs. Meanwhile, marble archways lead out to the wrap-around balcony, which frames the spectacular seascape like a painting on the wall. Each bedroom and bathroom suite provides guests with blissful privacy and the opportunity for moments of solitude when needed.

We adore this contemporary home due to the unique characteristics sprinkled throughout. Spacious and drenched in sunlight, imagine yourself cooking an all-day breakfast in the kitchen. While looking through the circular window to the amazing view outside, you spot your children having fun by the pool, excited for the day ahead. The breakfast bar is also the perfect spot to chow down. Heading upstairs, you'll find the three bedrooms all have direct access to the balcony, allowing you to breathe in the fresh air and admire the surrounding vista.
