You're four minutes' walk from the breathtaking city views of Miradouro de São Pedro, a six-minute walk from the opulent interior of the Church of Sao Roque, and six minutes from the mournful sounds of fado that accompany dinner at legendary Lisbon restaurant, Adega Machado. At the end of a day of exploring, retreat to your sleek and modern home, where traditional features harmoniously coexist with minimalist modern furniture – it's a stark contrast to the art-daubed cobbled streets below. This modern studio flat perfectly suits a solo traveller or a couple wanting to explore Lisbon's vibrant culture and history. You can even spot the top of the Basilica da Estrela out the window – a rarity for a ground floor flat. But the best part about this place is the excellent location. Bairro Alto, known as Lisbon's bohemian district, is home to trendy restaurants, lively Fado bars, old-style cafes, art galleries and independent shops. Check out the many beautiful churches sprinkled across this vibrant neighbourhood, or hop on one of the iconic trams and weave your way up into the hills. This is the perfect spot to go exploring – you're only a four-minute walk from Miradouro São Pedro de Alcântara (one of the best viewpoints in the city) and just a twenty-minute stroll from the historic city centre.

This slick, multi-level apartment sits in cool and central Príncipe Real. Inside is characterful, warm, and welcoming. We’re talking hardwood floors, walls filled with bold prints in artfully mismatched frames, sleek leather sofas, and beds that wouldn’t be out of place in a high-end hotel. The kitchen has everything you would need if you weren’t dining out in one of the gazillion acclaimed restaurants that Lisbon is famous for. Get the coffee maker on and wake up leisurely, and if you can, claim the master bedroom that comes with its own balcony and city views. We love the elevated touches in this home, like the HD projector you can plug your laptop into for film night on the mezzanine. Get your favourite tunes on the sound system for a summer soundtrack to pre-dinner drinks. Explore the city on your doorstep - potter around the nearby antique shops and independent boutiques. Pick up an iconic Portuguese custard tart on your way to the nearby subway station Baixa-Chiado and explore further afield. You’ll be walking distance from a host of attractions – fifteen minutes from Convento do Carmen, fifteen from the Botanical Gardens and eighteen from the trendy Barrio Alto. Returning home, you’ll find original stone arches and tasteful vintage furnishings in the lobby that perfectly match the exterior traditional setting. Inside, stone accents bring the same authenticity to the living space, while bright pops of colour add a touch of warmth and cosiness to the home. Sit back on the sofa, gather around the table for a meal or take a luxurious soak in the marble bathroom – with its brilliant location and thoughtful interior, this is a great choice for newbies and oldies to the city.

This home is a  paradise for shoppers – it's situated just off the tree-lined Avenida da Liberdade, famous as one of the most expensive shopping streets in Europe with its designer stores such as Cartier and Prada. For a wealth of bars, restaurants and historic architecture, take a fifteen-minute stroll to the picturesque neighbourhood of Bairro Alto. Or head to Praça do Comércio with its harbour-facing square, a twenty-minute stroll away. The immediate area isn't super touristy but feels more authentic and quiet, which is something we always like. Back at this stylish apartment, take a seat on the comfy sofa and rest your feet after all that retail therapy or get some fresh air on the balcony. This place has everything you need for a comfortable stay –  we particularly love the vintage furniture scattered throughout the house, as well as the gorgeous marble-style bathrooms. With this home, you can really live like a Lisboeta.

Over in the bedrooms, the designers have kept the spaces pared-back and contemporary – with just those Portuguese ceramic floor tiles adding a pop of colour and beautifully mirroring the blue skies outside. When it's time to explore, the Bairro Alto district is right at your feet. One of the city's most emblematic neighbourhoods, this place has got it all going on. By day, lose yourself to its tangle of lanes discovering old-school cafes for tasty tapas plates and quaint vintage shops. As dusk falls over the city, grab ginjinha cocktails from hole-in-the-wall bars. Then settle down in one of its late-night bistros for authentic tapas, as the Fado folk musicians strike up.

Admittedly, it's further away from the historical city centre, but its pastel-coloured mansion apartments and wide boulevards provide it with a charm all of its own. You'll find the enchanting ten-acre Jardim Botânico de Lisboa and the lush Jardim do Príncipe Real within a five-minute walk. While your capable kitchen can handle anything you can throw at/over it, you're spoiled for choice when it comes to local eateries – it's a veritable foodie heaven. Choose to chow down at A Cevicheria, where you can indulge in a light and zesty menu of citrus-cured fish and mouth-puckering pisco sours. Alternatively, Atalho Real plates up melt-in-the-mouth meat in a relaxed environment. Once you've eaten your fill, there's a tempting choice of local bars where you can keep the party going – Pavilhão Chinês serves imaginative long drinks in an old grocery store packed with flea market finds and bric-a-brac. At the same time, cult favourite Foxtrot might be reminiscent of a good old British pub, but the creative cocktail menu promises so much more.

But if you’re the going-out type, you’re only a fourteen-minute walk from Bairro Alto, a popular area for late-night spots in the Portuguese capital. Nestled in a quiet residential street in Príncipe Real, Afterglow is a great option for visitors wanting to be somewhere central but with a peaceful, calm atmosphere. The living room is open to the kitchen and dining room and gets great natural light. We loved the views you get over the city’s rooftops – but take note, the view is earned by walking up a steep street. The apartment is comfortable and it’s in great condition, making it a lovely place to come back to after a long day of pounding the pavement.

The bustling, boho neighbourhood of Bairro Alto offers an array of drinking and dining spots to keep you entertained after dark. But while it’s well known for its night scene, its independent shops, cafés, and bakeries will keep you busy on warm afternoons. As well as local delights, you can also easily reach the city’s iconic sights. From this apartment, visit the neo-gothic Santa Justa Lift in eleven minutes, or reach Lisbon’s historic cathedral in under twenty.

Although you might be focused on visiting every corner of this colourful city, colour really does begin at home. The bright blue exterior of your building stands out against the pink hues of neighbouring apartments, but matches the sunny skies above. And inside, the azure theme goes on beneath your feet. Gorgeous, blue-tiled floors feature throughout the home, creating a relaxed atmosphere with a nod to the nearby River Tagus.

While the furniture and decor offer a minimal Scandi vibe, complete with wicker and wooden elements, your host’s extra offering is anything but minimal. The streets surrounding this apartment are part of Principe Real – one of the trendiest neighbourhoods in Lisbon, where new cafes crop up almost every month alongside organic markets and original clothing boutiques. Thanks to the hilltop location, this split-level home has incredible views over the Tagus River and the city's varied architecture, and the best spot to take it all in is from the balcony. Just grab a bottle of wine (your host generously leaves one for you) and take your front-row seat to gorgeous sunsets over the rooftops. When you're in the mood to cook, the kitchen has everything you need – there's also a produce market held on Saturdays in the park nearby to stock up on fresh produce. Downstairs is relaxed and cosy, with pops of bright reds and a clean, contemporary living space that's an excellent place to hang out after a busy day. We think this apartment is a great match for a family or friend group that want a vibrant locale, excellent views and easy access to transport links.

It's impossible to talk about Evaristo's Cauldron without first mentioning the lovely host Susana, who lives in the same building and treats all guests as if they were old friends. Located in Principe Real, this home is close to all central attractions, but the immediate surroundings are fairly quiet. Even though this home is located in an old building, both the exterior and interior are impeccable. Evaristo's Cauldron preserves traditional Portuguese architectural features while ensuring that this home is comfortable, functional, and designed with a mixture of old and new chic.

Located along Lisbon's vibrant Avenida da Liberdade, renowned for its designer shopping and excellent restaurants, this stylish apartment welcomes you to experience the city in style. You're just a short twelve-minute walk from Convento do Carmo and a twenty-four-minute stroll from São Jorge Castle. 

It's a bright and breezy living space with heaps of abundant natural light pouring in throughout the day, thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows that frame calming green views. Return from a culture-packed afternoon of sightseeing and sprawl out on the plump sofa with a glass of Rioja, immediately noticing the tranquil atmosphere of your modern pad.

Set over a series of hills, the area might sometimes feel challenging to explore – but always worth it for a striking view. Or to make things a bit easier, you can admire the city from your own rooftop home, or the Santa Justa Lift, only eleven minutes away.

In this peaceful street, you’ll find traditional architecture and exteriors with famous Portuguese tiles and colourful facades. Your apartment building is covered in glazed blue tiles, matching beautifully with the clear blue skies. Inside, blue is a continual theme, but this time for flooring. Glide across these tiles as you admire modern, understated furniture in the living space, with woven and wicker elements completing this relaxed feel. And it’s all illuminated by sunlight streaming in through huge, sliding doors.

Follow the light to your private outdoor terrace, where you can sit every morning with your espresso alongside terracotta rooftops. But when the afternoon sun heats up, take shade under the parasol with a glass of douro in hand.

Larousse is quite a particular home with a unique structure that's hard to find in Lisbon.  The modern minimalist furniture works well with the traditional bare bones of this typical townhouse, creating a pleasant communal area that includes a sociable kitchen. The second bedroom is located on the mezzanine and it isn't well separated from the communal area – it will only suit those who can get up the steep stairs and appreciate the open space. But you'll get to enjoy a great view and a location that will get you close to the sights and the best shops in town.

This sunny home is in a quiet residential area of Lisbon. It's perfect for those who want to relax after spending the day exploring the city. Within walking distance are small groceries, cafes, and the tram, which will quickly take you into the centre of town. The beautiful Jardim da Estrela is close by too – a garden where you can picnic beneath the shade of the trees in the summer. We'd recommend paying a visit to the Praça das Flores where you can buy drinks and pastries. Though when the weather is good, you might prefer simply spending time sipping a glass of wine on the balcony. It's the crowning jewel of this apartment, perfect for both your morning coffee and an evening nightcap under the stars.

The streets between Jardim do Princípe Real and Avenida da Liberdade are far from touristy – the houses are populated with real Lisbon residents, who go about the business between small shops and cafes. Rainy Night is located inside a typical Portuguese townhouse, albeit one that looks a bit more scruffy on the outside – unlike the apartment. The home has a lovely view and lots of natural light, with a simple, functional design that doesn't clutter. We particularly liked the French doors and the wooden headboard in the master bedroom.

Located in the stylish Príncipe Real bairro of Lisbon, walking distance from the quaint shaded Praça das Flores, this top floor apartment has some of the best views Lisbon has to offer. The interiors are traditional yet fully updated, with abstract art and framed Joan Miró prints adding a contemporary edge. But it’s the balconies that really make this home. As soon as you wake up, settle into the sight of the terracotta rooftops and iconic Abril de 25 Bridge washed in the morning’s soft yellow light—it’s really quite something. Better still, there’s another small outside space at the rear of the property so you’ll never have to miss a second of the Iberian sunshine. Your neighbourhood is renowned for its selection of trendy restaurants, bars and gelaterias. Plus, Lisbon’s charming trams operate in the area, with a stop a five-minute walk away, so you’re easily connected with the rest of the city.

Views Over Breakfast

This home is a peaceful city oasis, perfect for those who want to escape the city noise. Furnished with a love for rustic elegance, it gives off a sense of fairytale glamour. Most of the furniture has been hand-picked and brought over from Indonesia by the host in search if the perfect textural patterns, giving this home a harmonious vibe in every room. While we loved the hand-carved details and the woodwork in the living room, our favourite is the traditionally paved terrace – perfect for lazy afternoon lunches. 

Fay Well

Set on a typical cobbled street, full of restaurants and cafes, and close to the luxurious Avenida da Liberdade, this traditional home can be found in a historic building. Freshly renovated and flooded with natural light, it's a cheerful space that's perfectly located for those wanting to explore Lisbon like a local. The pine floor is bright and comforting, while the large, open-plan living space has several big windows and two sets of doors opening to a narrow balcony that overlooks Jardim do Torrel – perfect for an afternoon walk. The kitchen isn't huge but it's well-equipped and there's a pretty dining table for evenings in. An apartment on two levels, a modern staircase leads up to the bedrooms in the eaves (we love the big master bedroom). Just a few steps from probably the most desirable avenue in the city, it's easy to get around from here too – it runs from the heart of the city centre to the Marquês de Pombal square.

The Great Wave

Housed in a traditional Pombaline-style building, this sunny spot in Principe Real is perfect for those exploring the city. Uncover the boutiques, bars and art galleries of neighbouring Bairro Alto, less than a fifteen minutes' walk away or go for a cultural day trip to Sao Jorge Castle, only a half-hour wander from your door. Back inside, you'll find modern and clean interiors with comfy furnishings that hark back to Portugal's historic roots, creating a cosy and homely feel from the get-go. Continue socialising over a glass of red as you cook for your guests in the open kitchen-dining area, benefitting from marble surfaces, artist lighting and stylish chairs. The home's warm colour palette (think red, orange and yellow) makes for a friendly living space where you'll enjoy relaxing after a day spent discovering this thriving city. Of course, with Lisbon's glorious climate, you'd be amiss not to have your own private balcony where you can soak up the sunshine, sip your morning espresso and watch the world go by below – so, naturally, there's a wrap-around terrace at the front and another balcony at the back of the apartment.

A mixture of rustic chic and fairytale glamour, this home is a peaceful oasis for those who want to avoid the hustle and bustle of central Lisbon but still stay within reach of the sights. Most of the furniture has been imported from Indonesia by the discerning hosts, and we think you'll love the intricate textures and soothing colour scheme. The patio, complete with a small plunge pool, is a quiet, sunny spot ideal for quick breakfasts and long, lazy lunches. You'll find Rato Metro stop just a minute's walk away, meaning it's easy to whizz into the centre of the city. The popular neighbourhood of Bairro Alto is just a ten-minute walk away too, with its famous steep streets and bohemian flair.

Beautifully decorated and centrally located, this Lisbon apartment has a lot to offer. It’s great for remote workers, with a dedicated office that’s separate from the living and sleeping areas. The well-equipped kitchen and cosy decor also make this a wonderful choice for a long-term stay – you can even bring your pet. The balcony is a lovely touch, too. The views are slightly blocked by a tree, but you can always take in the quintessential Lisbon street views from the living area’s Juliet balcony. In terms of location, Avenida Liberdade and its shops, restaurants, and cafes, is close to your base in Santo António, and a stroll through Parque Eduardo VII is a must.

Le Problème

You can tell most of this furniture was selected with care – Pedro went all the way to Indonesia to achieve the fairytale glamour look of this home. Thanks to the exposed brickwork and vaulted ceilings, you can still see what this home looked like before the rustic transformation. The attention to detail in this home is excellent – hand-crafted bed frames and mirrors in unexpected colours help create a pleasant earthy atmosphere. Although The Fay Terrace is a small home, it has a large, traditionally paved terrace, perfect for afternoon lunches.

The host has made it their goal to create the epitome of fairytale glamour. His quest to find the best furniture for the job has taken him all the way to Indonesia, which is where most of the hand-carved pieces have come from – from the wood slice coffee table to the bedroom doors. This home doesn't get as much light as it deserves, but it's illuminated with well-placed lights in every room. The stone-paved terrace with a little pool is our favourite part of this home, perfect for late afternoon cocktails.

In the hills of Bairro Alto, this region's steep inclines make for a well-deserved view at the top. On the way up, you’ll also find cobbled streets full of restaurants, independent boutiques, and cafés.
