It's located in one of the city's most prestigious areas, close to supermarkets, pharmacies, shops, bars, theatres and the Casino of Madeira. Adjacent to the casino, you'll find the pretty Santa Catarina Park, with its amazing views of the bay of Funchal. Other attractions, such as the cathedral and marina, are within a ten-minute stroll, too, while the aerobus bus stop for the airport is also within a five-minute saunter.

Back at this apartment, go for a dip in the communal pool to cool off or relax on your private balcony. We adore the vistas over Funchal, the ocean, and the São João Baptista do Pico Fortress – enjoy them from here or indoors with a glass of Madeira. Lots of botanical prints and vases of flowers give this place a home-from-home feel. This traditional stone farmhouse is full of character and provides an idyllic escape for anyone after a mix of thrilling adventure and pure relaxation. Set in the coastal hills outside of Funchal, you’re removed from the hustle and bustle of city life, free to simply roam the home’s verdant and blossoming garden, sunbathe on the patio’s lounge chairs, and dine alfresco on the covered veranda. On the other hand, if you’re after a bit more excitement, this location makes the perfect base for exploring the region’s stunning topography, which features breath-taking hikes through the mountains and walks along the precipitous coastline. However you choose to spend your days, you’ll find the warm interior with its vaulted timber ceilings and wood-burning stove makes for the perfect place to relax and recuperate.

You can take in balmy blue views from almost anywhere in this apartment – although our favourite spot to gaze out at the never-ending seascape is the main bedroom. What could be more calming than waking up here each morning? After a big stretch staring out at the bobbing waves, pour yourself a cup of coffee and soak it all up amid the fresh air on the balcony.

The modern interiors nod to the natural environment – think neutral hues and tasteful touches of blue. Meanwhile, minimal designs create a laid-back, serene ambience that makes switching off and chilling out all the easier.

We love the entrance hallway to the apartment’s building – a perfect introduction to Funchal’s architecture – with its faded tile floor and arched marble doorframes. Stepping into the apartment, a palette of stone, slate and cotton keeps things feeling calmingly natural. The full kitchen is tucked behind the living area and has everything you need to turn the fresh produce of the nearby farmer’s market into salads, seafood feasts and stews. There’s enough room for the group to dine at the ink-black table, which can double as a desk if you need to work remotely.

Set within a farm surrounded by lush Madeiran countryside in Vale Paraíso, this home has a secluded location, so it’s an ideal rural retreat.
