Steps from the apartment is the riverfront, where Porto’s famous wine cellars line the banks, and walking the narrow streets of the neighbourhood you’ll find delights like Palacio Bolta three minutes away, and Mercado Ferreira Borges five minutes on foot. The first thing you’ll notice, stepping into the apartment, is the view directly over the Douro River from the wall of big windows in the living room. Wooden shutters add a touch of tradition, and the darkwood dressers and artfully faded Moroccan rugs are in keeping with the building’s history. Hardwood floors lead from the living room, to the compact kitchen in an alcove and through to the bright bedroom where the exposed stone and big sash window motif continues.

Located only a few minutes from the Clérigos Tower, On The Lookout's rooftop terrace offers a rival view to the Cathedral and downtown architecture. The insides of this home are equally impressive, with a welcoming communal area all dressed in wood. The rustic touches are added in the form of forest animal prints, which adds to the warm ambiance in every room. The terrace is only accessible via the upstairs bedroom, but if that's not too much of an inconvenience, then you're cordially invited to experience the view (and the comfort) for yourself.

Situated in the heart of Downtown Porto, this apartment places you within easy walking distance of the city's top highlights. Visit the Church of Saint Ildefonso, sample local produce at the Mercado do Bolhão, or head to the Douro River for a boat trip. Inside, it's a smart, functional space for your group to spread out, and there's a sofa bed for a fifth guest. The kitchen is compact yet fully equipped for home-cooked dinners, while the enclosed balcony is a nice place to toast the day's end. Just note that you'll need to climb stairs to reach the entrance of this home.

Boasting pastoral architectural features in combination with minimalist interiors, we were not only impressed with the sleek look but more importantly, the comfort provided. On top of that, you’ll be staying in a fabulous location, especially if you’ve never been to Porto before. You're right by the city centre and close to the most important tourist attractions. Of course, it wouldn't be Porto if wonderful cafes didn't also line the streets.

Situated in the charming Ribeiro neighbourhood, a three-minute walk from the neoclassical Palácio da Bolsa and within touching distance of old-school restaurants serving traditional Portuguese fare, this modern and bright apartment is a great base for exploring all that Porto has to offer.

We loved the light-filled living space, with its huge floor-to-ceiling windows and double-height ceilings. A dining table takes centre stage, encouraging lively breakfasts in the morning and hearty suppers in the evening. There’s also a cosy mezzanine level that is the perfect spot for reclining with a glass of wine before retreating to sumptuous bedrooms for an early night. 

Slip into the narrow cobbled streets and begin your sightseeing adventure. The 12th-century Porto Cathedral is six minutes from your doorstep and the Igreja dos Clérigos with its 75-metre-tall bell tower is reached in less than ten. When it’s time to call it a day, make a beeline for the Vitória viewpoint to watch dusk fall across the city.

It’s an idyllic spot. 

Inside, the apartment is just as striking. Exposed stone walls and dark wood furniture combine with floor-to-ceiling windows to stunning effect, and everything you need is close to hand. Cook local dishes in the kitchen and dine in together, opening up the balcony doors to merge the indoor and outdoor spaces for cocktail hour. 

When you want to see more of Porto, you’ll find that you’re within easy walking distance of all of the major sights and attractions. You’ll never want to leave this classy and convenient home.

From its enviable position in the centre of Porto, this stylish yet functional apartment is an excellent choice for families and groups of friends alike. The open-plan living space is perfectly proportioned, with enough room for entertaining your loved ones or enjoying a quiet moment with a cup of coffee. We had a particular soft spot for the individually designed bedrooms and we loved the kitchen’s handy serving hatch.

When you’re ready to explore your surroundings. Begin with a trip to Porto Cathedral, just a short walk from your building. Or why not head down to the water? Amble alongside the Duoro River with an ice cream in hand before watching the world pass by in a charming cafe. In the early evening, we recommend watching the sunset from the nearby Miradouro da Rua das Aldas viewpoint.

Found in one of the oldest residential buildings in Porto, this apartment might not look 200 years old thanks to modernisation, but it remains historic. Now updated to house families itching to explore this UNESCO World Heritage City, it's comfortable – though the two bedrooms with the sloped ceilings might be better for kids – and bright with a fantastic location. Walk to Porto Cathedral and other landmarks in minutes, buy fresh produce from the Bolhão market only a short stroll away, and hop on the trams to find points of interest further afield.

This home nearly feels like staying on a boat – what with the large French doors opening directly onto the Douro River. Whether you’re sat on the sofa or enjoying a coffee at the dining table, you’ll have sweeping views of the water and the city. The windows’ second benefit is the sheer amount of light the living space gets, bathing the tasteful furniture in the warm sun. We could spend hours with a book in the armchair, taking in the sea air as the day grows to a peak. But of course, this central location leaves much to be explored. Honestly, the maintenance needs a bit of work, and the terraces need tidying up, but the place is just so special. From the spectacular views of the Douro River to the beautiful azulejo tiles and the stone fireplace, it has a distinct soul and Porto charm that we simply can't get enough of – it feels like the kind of place we could spend a long time in. Whether you're drinking a chilled glass of Porto wine from the spacious terrace, taking a dip in the private pool or even washing up in the shower, you'll be able to appreciate the lovely views over the water. Both bedrooms are roomy and bright, although the fifth guest will have to sleep on the sofa bed in the living area. Location-wise, you're not far from the shops on Rua de Santa Catarina or the buzz of downtown. Also nearby is Trindade Metro station for adventures further afield.

There's a bespoke kitchen packed with everything you'll need for cooking at home, along with a comfy sofa, a little dining area and even a desk. And while this is a studio, the addition of a sleeping platform up a few steps divides the space neatly – creating storage beneath. Step out of bed and straight into your in-room rainfall shower, before making a cup of coffee and opening up the shutters to gaze across at the park.

With wine bars and cafes on your street, you won't have to go far for a true taste of Porto, and the riverside is just a ten-minute walk.



The Shuttersmith

Petite and pared-back, this apartment is ideally placed for sightseeing. You'll find it nestled between the shops and markets on a pedestrianised street in the heart of the city. Exploring on foot is a breeze here – or, if you'd prefer to take it easy, there are metro stops and trams nearby. Back home, the living area isn't the biggest, and the compact kitchen makes cooking anything more than a snack a challenge. However, each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and the uncluttered design is a reprieve after a day out and about. There's even a tiny balcony overlooking the street – perfect for a quick spot of people-watching.

This bright and welcoming apartment makes for an excellent base in Porto. It was only finished in 2022 so it’s new and fresh, with crisp white walls and stylish decor. It’s ideal for a couple looking for a modern home in Porto. 

You’ll love standing on the balcony each morning, soaking up the sun as you sip your coffee. Prepare a quick breakfast in the petite open-plan kitchen before heading out to see the sights. This home is centrally located, so you’ll be able to easily explore on foot and by using the metro. You’re within easy walking distance of Casa da Música, ideal if you’re planning on catching a show during your stay.

Cheery yellow accents, a well-considered layout and an ideal location combine to create this inviting apartment in the heart of Porto’s Sé neighbourhood. The apartment is simple, allowing the floor-to-ceiling windows to draw the eye. Two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the open-plan living and dining space, which isn’t the most private.

You’ll need to climb some stairs to reach this second-floor apartment, so keep that in mind. The third bedroom lacks some privacy, though the sliding doors allow you to partition it off from the living area. And while the dining room doesn’t accommodate all six guests, you'll find plenty of casual eateries, bars and cafes on your doorstep. Location-wise, Porto’s iconic sights, including Bolsa Palace, the Miradouro da Vitória and Mosteiro de São Bento da Vitória are within easy reach.

If you want to explore the rest of the city, São Bento train station is five minutes on foot. Just remember to bring you're walking shoes, as this home is on a bit of a hill and the apartment is on the first floor, with no lift (there are two flights of stairs to reach the door). But you are rewarded with views of the city's cathedral once you've arrived – take in the vistas from the private balcony. Inside, we love the vaulted ceilings, which add character to this modern home.

Poet's Hideout is an elegant split-level home in the tourist centre of Porto – but one of the things we love most about it is that it's still peaceful and quiet. The host has invested a lot of effort and brainpower to make the original architectural features work with modern furniture, and the end result is stunning. This home is closer to an aparthotel than a characterful private residence, but that does come with its perks, like daily cleaning and breakfast, which are included in your stay.

Porto is a city perhaps best known for the fortified wine that borrows its name, so it only feels appropriate that this large apartment in the downtown area of the city feels like it has been designed for gathering people together. 

The space revolves around an open kitchen-dining area that looks like the trendiest restaurant in town. Here, guests can get stuck in and whip up tasty dishes, or alternatively watch the action from a seat at the large island. If you’d prefer to leave the cooking to the professionals, there's the option of hiring a private chef at this address who can take care of mealtimes. Cedofeita is slightly off the beaten track, but still a part of Porto's busy city centre. After you pass the neighbourhood's cosy cafes and art galleries, you'll quickly get to the riverside and other central sights. Fernando & Amalia is a simple, immaculate home with ample natural light and high-quality furniture. The building faces a busy street, which is great if you want to grab a taxi – but the communal areas are a little noisy with the windows open. We did, however, like the Porto-inspired art prints in the living room.

Laid out around a beautiful central terrace, floor-to-ceiling windows allow ample natural light to shine through, giving you endless sunshine, inside and out. Curated in a contemporary style, the decor is understated yet thoughtfully brought together to make the most out of this sparkling space. We love the main bedroom’s French doors that lead out onto the sunny terrace – the ideal spot for alfresco breakfasts and celebratory sundowners – as well as the second bedroom’s large windows that give way to a stone-walled courtyard dotted with leafy plants. 
 
Factor in the Porto-inspired art on the walls as well as the sleek en-suites, and you’ve got everything you need for a relaxing stay.

The kitchen facilities are limited, but you’ll have your pick of Porto’s best restaurants and bars on your doorstep.
