What's more, the outdoor space is equally as impressive as the interior. You can take in views of the hilly landscape from the terrace with your morning coffee or opt for a dip in the heated swimming pool instead.

El Cubo Rojo

With its white walls, floating staircases, and wooden architecture, this home feels like something from the future. Set in the heart of Salobre Golf Resort, the plot is breathtakingly modern. Pristine walls and mood-lit ceilings nod strongly toward minimalism, with pops of colour from the plush yellow velvet sofas in the open kitchen. Where decoration may seem sparse, sliding doors flood the space with sunshine, turning your eye towards the impressive view instead. Bedrooms each have a different colour scheme, from the palm leaf-patterned double to the lemon yellow and grey room, which leads onto a marble-covered bathroom. Outside is just as stylish. An infinity pool looks out towards the ocean, while white sun loungers and double day beds are the perfect spot for siestas. Come evening, the outdoor kitchen with its grill barbecue is on hand to cook up feasts. Time it right and dinner will be served on the outdoor table, just as the sun is setting beneath the ocean.

Apollo Landing

Gran Canaria’s tropical coasts are quite mesmerising, especially when you can hear the gentle rhythm of the waves in the background. This apartment, situated right on the shores of Playa de San Agustín, allows you to hear the entrancing ebb and flow of the tides all day, every day. But at less than a forty-minute drive from the capital of Las Palmas, you can easily trade this serene, beachside lifestyle for the island’s biggest metropolis (well, perhaps just for the afternoon).

As you step inside to this airy, modern studio, you’ll immediately feel a sense of zen and clarity thanks to white walls and stylish, grey concrete tiled floors. This continues into the bedroom, where a mirrored wardrobe adds to the modern decor at the same time as accentuating the sense of space. Monochrome furnishings and natural stone-coloured curtains also play a secondary role in the lounge – allowing the views from the enormous glass doors to really be the centre of attention. Swaying native palm trees, glistening blue seas, and golden sands can be viewed from the comfort of your private balcony – the only thing missing is a frozen margarita in your hand.

Phoenix Canariensis

Gran Canaria is known for its sand, both on its beaches and in the hills. This villa's pretty sandy too, at least in tone, and is your private oasis on the island. It's all about days in the garden here. Swim laps in the long, rectangular pool, before dining at the outside table under the sun. Sit back and work on your tan, while admiring the views of the mountains and forests on the horizon. Within the villa, modern stone walls are a wonderful feature against comfortable furnishings – lie back on the comfy sofa in front of the widescreen TV, and make the most of your stylish surroundings. After unwinding in the garden, embark on a trip to some of the myriad restaurants and shops in the area. You'll also find a nearby golf course where you can practice your swing, and a glorious sandy beach a short car journey away. Or wander across the sand dunes of Maspalomas, one of the island's landmarks. 

Orange Delight

This modern villa sits pretty among the hills of southern Gran Canaria, with a delightfully sunny aspect and great views of the hills. Here, you're a short walk from the Salobre Golf Resort and its enormous course, supermarket, shops, restaurant, bar and serene infinity pool. Your own pool is not to be sniffed at, however, edged by mini-decks where you can bask, lizard-like, in the sun – there's really no need to move here. For true decadence, crawl onto the four-poster day bed and drift off. There is a big outdoor grill as well, so you really don't have to think about eating out unless you want to. Post dinner, kick back and watch some DVDs on the enormous TV.

La Tangerina

With a great location within the centre of this golf resort – this villa has lovely views, especially from the balcony. There's a private pool and covered dining area for when you want to cool off from the Gran Canarian sun. Inside, the tropical wallpaper reminds us that this island is just off the coast of Africa with a warm climate all year round. Another thing we love here is that you can step out of both bedrooms onto a terrace. There are fresh bread rolls delivered every morning for free, too – a nice touch. This small resort is situated a few kilometres from Playa del Ingles, and other nearby attractions include the dunes of Maspalomas.

Overlooking the picturesque and family-friendly fishing village of Puerto de Mogán and set just metres from its 200m-long beach, this top floor apartment enjoys an enviable location in one of the sunniest spots on Earth. 

With an average of 320 days of sun per year, this tranquil southern section of the Gran Canaria coast as good as guarantees great weather, meaning you're free to make the most of the stunning rooftop terrace, soak up some rays on the nearby beach, and explore the nearby canals – the source of the town's nickname, 'Venice of the Canaries'.

However, there's more to Puerto de Mogán than simply sun, sea and sand, with a bustling Friday market attracting visitors from all over the island, plus Instagrammable houses that back the yacht-lined marina.

Back at the apartment, there's an open-plan living area that leads directly out onto an east-facing balcony – perfect for that early morning cup of coffee in the sunshine. Meanwhile, the rooftop terrace some equipped with plenty of comfy seating and a basic outdoor kitchen, so you're free to tuck into alfresco feasts with views out over the town.

Elsewhere, the island has plenty of natural wonders to discover, including the stunning Maspalomas dunes (26km) and the jaw-dropping mountain landscapes that lead towards Pico de las Nieves (45km), while you only need to travel a short distance from shore to find pods of dolphins and whales that call these waters home.

This home is a rare find – it has a peaceful and private setting, and yet it's just a few minutes walk from the historic city of La Orotava. Surrounded by a plantation of avocados, relax on the multiple terraces (five no less), cool off from the Tenerife sun in the infinity waterfall pool with its Atlantic Ocean vistas or unwind in the hot tub. 

We love the professionally designed gardens – our favourite spot is the yoga/meditation corner –  very zen. There's a fantastic outdoor kitchen, too – cook up a feast while you enjoy the fabulous views of Mount Teide, the forests and hills. As sunset arrives, pick some mint for your mojitos from the herb garden or feel free to pick a lemon for your G&T. As the light continues to fade, gather around the designer fire pit. 

Or, on cooler evenings, cosy up in front of the wood-burning stove indoors. Here, you'll find gorgeous beamed, vaulted ceilings, as well as original pictures and sculptures.

There's plenty to do out and about too. Hire a bike and explore the terrain (many professional cycling teams train here). If you prefer something a bit less energetic, there are three golf courses within easy reach, including one designed by Seve Ballestros. The nearest beach is 3 kilometres away, along with the popular resort beaches and Lido in Puerto de la Cruz, while La Orotava has an array of cafes, shops, bars and restaurants within walking distance.

Right on the beachfront at La Canteras, this home has a fabulous spot. Take in the fantastic Atlantic and La Canteras Beach views from this home’s sunny and dazzling whitewashed terrace. You can even spot Mount Teide in Tenerife in the distance. We love this outdoor space, it's ideal for an alfresco breakfast (whizz up a drink in the juicer to accompany some churros). Later, do some sunbathing on the sun loungers. Inside, there are more of those fabulous vistas through the large sliding doors.

In the afternoon, perhaps head to La Canteras  Beach, under a minute stroll away. It’s one of the best urban beaches in the world, and there are plenty of cafes and restaurants to sample in the vicinity too. Or, for a bit of culture, Las Palmas Cathedral is a ten-minute ride away. It’s a couple of minutes more to Casa-Museo de Colón, which documents Columbus’ voyages. 


Somewhere on a Beach

Conveniently located within walking distance of Tauro's golf clubs and a short drive from the beach too, this villa is ideal for a family seeking a sunny escape. With a private swimming pool, alfresco dining area, barbecue and terrace, guests can enjoy their own slice of privacy between beach trips and days out. While the villa's modern aesthetic isn't packed with personality, it provides a comfortable and above all, functional set-up for a fuss-free stay here. Nearby, you'll find the local shop and restaurant within walking distance, plus the town centre of Tauro is just a short bike ride or drive away.

This eco-friendly studio apartment is situated just moments away from the Las Canteras beach, making it a good base for a couple or a solo traveller. Thanks to the central location, a car is not essential here, as you’ll have plenty of shopping and dining options to choose from within walking distance. Public transport options are also excellent if you want to explore further afield. The pad may be compact in size but there’s enough space here for two guests to be comfortable, and with good internet speed, you can also catch up on work during your stay – although you'll have to set-up shop around the dining table since there isn't a desk.
