Recently renovated, this lovely cottage in the centre of beautiful Mevagissey has a fantastic location. It's just 320 metres from Little Polstreath Beach, so grab your bucket and spade or go and explore the rock pools here. There are an array of pubs, restaurants, shops and cafes, as well as a fish and chip shop, grocery store and bakery within a five-minute stroll. Pick up a fish and chip supper and have them on the pretty quayside or take them back to this stylish cottage and enjoy them at the dining table.

You’ll find character features here, such as the exposed stone walls and whitewashed beams. We particularly love the porthole with its harbour and hillside glimpses, as well as the master bedroom with its grey wood panelling and sea life pictures. This home is perfect for a family or friends looking to explore this enchanting area.

This old fisherman's cottage is set in one of Cornwall's quieter villages, Gorran Haven, and is a little slice of tranquillity for families and friends. Less than five minutes from the beach, the home has views over the sea, including from the south-facing patio, which is perfect for unwinding with a glass of wine at sunset. There's an electric AGA in the country-style kitchen for preparing family feasts, while the cosy lounge has a rustic log-burner if you need to warm up after a dip in the ocean. Kids will love the snug upstairs, with their very own TV and sofa. Designed to an incredibly high standard by your host, Alison, the interior feels very in keeping with the seaside locale without ever coming across as a cliche. There's not a deckchair stripe in sight. Instead, you're treated to sculptural driftwood lamps, moody seascape paintings, and a sophisticated palette of deep blues and grey tones that reflect the British weather more accurately than the usual sunshine yellow. If you can bear to leave the home, there are plenty of shops, restaurants and places of interest in the immediate vicinity. Fowey is a beautiful harbourside town with public events occurring throughout the year. The local community is a healthy mix of all ages who are warm and friendly and adept at making newcomers feel welcome.

Utterly enchanting were our thoughts when we first saw this beautifully renovated Grade II listed Charlestown home – this place is very special indeed. Relax in the lovely, secluded south-facing garden or in the glass-covered courtyard filled with scented jasmine and verdant tree ferns – it's the perfect spot for a glass of Cornish fizz in the evening while doing a bit of star gazing. 

We love the bedroom, which is open to the rafters, as well as its cast-iron freestanding bathtub. On stormy nights, you may even hear the sound of the waves – what a wonderful way to fall asleep.

The following day, help yourself to tea or coffee, and feast on scrumptious Cornish cinnamon buns, provided courtesy of your hosts Antonia and David. They can also deliver oven-ready meals for lunch or dinner. 

If you prefer to eat out, there are an array of tempting restaurants on your doorstep to choose from. Or pop to the deli and take a picnic down to Charlestown Beach, a one-minute stroll away. Other beaches to try in the area include the golden sands of Porthpean, a five-minute drive. For history lovers, the Charlestown Shipwreck and Heritage Centre is a one-minute saunter, or keen hikers can have a walk around Gribben Head, a fifteen-minute drive from this home.

Charlestown is a UNESCO world heritage village, home to glorious Georgian architecture and the Shipwreck Treasure Museum. There’s a patio off the garden room too, ideal for reading your holiday book and this place is perfect as an all-year-round getaway as there’s an open fire for those colder months. Just a couple of things to note with this home – firstly, the stairs to the second floor are a bit on the narrow side. Secondly, there’s no parking and the road outside is steep, however, one reserved parking space is provided, a ten-minute walk away. You’ll definitely need to bring your walking shoes.

Sea Salt & Sunlight

The view from this period apartment in Fowey has to be seen to be believed. Step out onto its little balcony, complete with wrought iron railings, and you can look left towards the harbour, straight across the estuary to Polruan and right out to sea. A superb coastal viewpoint, sitting out here over breakfast, coffee, dinner or a glass of wine, is going to be your new obsession. At the top of an imposing seafront building, it's a fully modernised home perfect for a couple, friends or a small family. 

We'll start in the open-layout living room, decorated in blues and whites – a reflection of the view outside. There's a comfy, L-shaped velvet sofa, a little dining nook by the patio doors and a superb, modern kitchen with a breakfast bar. Elsewhere, a beautifully styled main bedroom has a window seat overlooking the water and an en-suite shower room, while we particularly love the freestanding bath in the main bathroom.

Just a short walk or drive from the centre of town, you'll have a great choice of shops, restaurants and pubs on your doorstep, and the beach at Readymoney Cove is just a matter of minutes away too. 

Shades of Water

Tucked away in delightful Polruan with its own secret, walled courtyard garden beyond the gate, this charming cottage is the perfect Cornish retreat. The south-facing patio has a lovely Mediterranean vibe with its lush plants and terracotta flowerpots. Head through the stable door, and you’ll find a colourful kitchen perfect for cooking up a seafood feast. This home is a house of joy and is ideal for a family or two couples.

Out and about, there are shops, cafes and two village pubs a short stroll away. The harbourside and glorious coastal walks are right on your doorstep. Or do some beachcombing – the seashore is 400 metres away. Polruan Castle, on the other hand, is a five-minute stroll. If you want to explore the town of Fowey opposite, the Polruan Ferry takes you across the estuary in under fifteen minutes, or a ten-minute drive will take you to the Bodinnick Car Ferry.


Chi Lowen

Enjoy some of the best views in Fowey when you stay at this grand Victorian house. With its elevated position on the famous Esplanade, the fabulous panoramic vistas took our breath away. You can see the harbour, Polruan, Pont Pill, the ruins of St Catherine's Castle and right out to sea. You can also enjoy the seascape from the large bay window in the stylish living room. Or take in the reflections on the water from the window seat in the main bedroom. We love the beachy vibe in this home, with its various shades of blue, seaside paintings and beach hut cushions.

If you fancy a swim in the sea, head to Readymoney Cove, a five-minute stroll or two-minute drive away. Or take advantage of chic Fowey's array of boutiques, cafes and restaurants. There's a pub and shops around 400 metres from this home, too.


Daphne's Paradise

Situated a stone's throw from the UNESCO World Heritage site of Charlestown Harbour, this stylish home boasts a location fit for the big screen. With its labyrinth of cobblestone streets and an impressive array of Tall Ships, you might recognise this quaint corner of Cornwall from some swoon-worthy scenes of Poldark. Surrounded by stunning scenery and just a six-minute drive from the bustling town of St Austell, this home provides a tranquil base for exploring the wild, rugged beauty of the South Cornish coast – brooding captain not included.

From the offset, this home charms with its peaceful surroundings. You'll find it tucked away in a tangle of cottages and dense foliage, a two-minute stroll from the historic harbour. Inside, stylishly adorned rooms flaunt floods of natural light, while the open-plan design allows the indoor and outdoor spaces to blend seamlessly. When you want to stay in for the evening, use the modern kitchen-diner space or take it outside to the barbecue on the terrace and savour the sea air and sunset. Whether you take hiking seriously or you plan on leisurely walks, Fowey has several National Trust trails and all the natural facets of the West Country landscape to explore.

The Sea, The Sea

Just one hundred metres from the water’s edge, this quiet cottage in Polruan is far enough from the action to feel like an escape but close enough that a short walk brings you to two characterful pubs and a quick three-mile drive places you at Lansallos Beach.
 
The unusual “upside down” configuration – bedrooms and bathrooms on the ground floor, lounge and kitchen up top – is designed to make the most of those stellar views across the harbour. Throw open the windows and watch the boats bob on the gentle waves as you nurse your morning coffee. 

When it’s fair out, pull on your walking boots and follow the coastline to Lantic Bay, a leisurely thirty-six-minute amble, or hop on the ferry and pootle over to Fowey. Come home, windswept and worn out for a well-earned gin and tonic in the tidy courtyard or a strong cup of tea in the cosy living space.

This characterful townhouse in the centre of Fowey is a lovely mishmash of exposed masonry, quirky wallpaper and coastal charm. But that's not the only reason we adore it – one look at the far-reaching views and you'll fall in love with it, too. Set over four levels, it's a bit of climb up to the fourth-floor lounge but trust us – it's worth every step. From up here, you've got a bird's eye view of the estuary, pretty Cornish coastline and the sparkling ocean, and the best spot to take it all in is the sunny roof terrace. Pour yourself a glass of wine (or a glass of juice for the little ones) and relish in the unforgettable sunsets, watching as the tide ebbs and flows. Then, when you've had your fill of the scenery (if that's even possible), make your way downstairs to the country-style kitchen for a family dinner before snuggling up in the sumptuous beds.

With its quaint boutiques and local eateries hiding all sorts of hidden treasures, there's plenty in Fowey to explore. Miles of idyllic coastline and countryside are ideal for walks, while harbourside cafes are the perfect spots to relax with a coffee before hiring a boat and setting off on an afternoon on the river. And, with an excellent pub next door, you won't even need to worry about cooking – sounds like heaven to us.
