Utterly enchanting were our thoughts when we first saw this beautifully renovated Grade II listed Charlestown home – this place is very special indeed. Relax in the lovely, secluded south-facing garden or in the glass-covered courtyard filled with scented jasmine and verdant tree ferns – it's the perfect spot for a glass of Cornish fizz in the evening while doing a bit of star gazing. 

We love the bedroom, which is open to the rafters, as well as its cast-iron freestanding bathtub. On stormy nights, you may even hear the sound of the waves – what a wonderful way to fall asleep.

The following day, help yourself to tea or coffee, and feast on scrumptious Cornish cinnamon buns, provided courtesy of your hosts Antonia and David. They can also deliver oven-ready meals for lunch or dinner. 

If you prefer to eat out, there are an array of tempting restaurants on your doorstep to choose from. Or pop to the deli and take a picnic down to Charlestown Beach, a one-minute stroll away. Other beaches to try in the area include the golden sands of Porthpean, a five-minute drive. For history lovers, the Charlestown Shipwreck and Heritage Centre is a one-minute saunter, or keen hikers can have a walk around Gribben Head, a fifteen-minute drive from this home.

Don't be fooled into thinking that the address is nothing more than a vantage point, however. Fowey is a beautiful harbourside town with public events occurring throughout the year. Just a short walk to local village shops and pubs, and a stone's throw from the captivating Cornish coastline that has inspired a thousand writers and artists over the centuries, this home provides the ideal base for experiencing all the very best that the South-West has to offer.  

Take the ten-minute walk to the pristine sands of the dog-friendly Par Beach, or head over to the dramatic cliffs of Carlyon Bay or the sheltered bay of Polkerris, which are both also nearby and offer a selection of eateries along the shoreline. For those with a hankering for hiking, there are plenty of lovely walking trails right out of the front door, including some of the most varied stretches of the South West Coast Path. The ever-popular seaside town of Fowey is also within easy reach, and if you fancy getting out on the water itself then some of Cornwall's best paddle-boarding can be enjoyed at nearby Golant.

No matter how you end up spending the day, you can always look forward to returning to this traditional yet chicly-finished cottage. This old fisherman's cottage is set in one of Cornwall's quieter villages, Gorran Haven, and is a little slice of tranquillity for families and friends. Less than five minutes from the beach, the home has views over the sea, including from the south-facing patio, which is perfect for unwinding with a glass of wine at sunset. There's an electric AGA in the country-style kitchen for preparing family feasts, while the cosy lounge has a rustic log-burner if you need to warm up after a dip in the ocean. Kids will love the snug upstairs, with their very own TV and sofa. The village centre is a short stroll away, as are two beaches – Little Perhaver beach avoids some of the crowds found on neighbouring Great Perhaver and is a two-minute walk from your front door. The South West Coast Path also runs close by this spot and can be followed along clifftops until you reach the charming village of Portmellon.

Take a seat on the front terrace of this charming cottage and take in the glimpses of the estuary this chic town is famous for. There’s a patio off the garden room too, ideal for reading your holiday book and this place is perfect as an all-year-round getaway as there’s an open fire for those colder months. Just a couple of things to note with this home – firstly, the stairs to the second floor are a bit on the narrow side. Secondly, there’s no parking and the road outside is steep, however, one reserved parking space is provided, a ten-minute walk away. You’ll definitely need to bring your walking shoes.

Tucked away in the pretty port town of Fowey, this cottage is all about elegance, simplicity and quality. Expect crisp white sheets in the bedrooms, a clutter-free living space with a wood-burning stove and an up-to-date Shaker-style kitchen. If you’d like to stretch your legs, take a stroll into the heart of your locale and check out the fantastic selection of cafes, ice cream shops, restaurants and pubs. Set out on the Hall Walk trail or take it easy and relax on Readymoney Cove Beach, less than a fifteen-minute saunter from your doorstep. 

When it’s time to call it a day, return to your abode for a glass of your favourite tipple and a well-deserved pamper session in the slipper bath tub.

Luxurious, modern and romantic, it’s the perfect bolthole for a couple looking for a special retreat in Cornwall. 

There are eleven beaches on this stretch of coast, so you can take your pick. There’s something for everyone, whether you’re a dedicated surfer or prefer to skim stones and keep your feet dry. Tolcarne Beach is a thirteen-minute drive, so when you’re ready to warm up after a day in the elements, you can nip back to the house easily. In the evening, stroll to the village pub – it’s two minutes away and your four-legged friend can accompany you. Sip local cider and plan the rest of your stay – will you set off on a boat trip from Newquay Harbour, or would you rather visit the zoo?

It's just 320 metres from Little Polstreath Beach, so grab your bucket and spade or go and explore the rock pools here. There are an array of pubs, restaurants, shops and cafes, as well as a fish and chip shop, grocery store and bakery within a five-minute stroll. Pick up a fish and chip supper and have them on the pretty quayside or take them back to this stylish cottage and enjoy them at the dining table.

You can see the harbour, Polruan, Pont Pill, the ruins of St Catherine's Castle and right out to sea. You can also enjoy the seascape from the large bay window in the stylish living room. Or take in the reflections on the water from the window seat in the main bedroom. We love the beachy vibe in this home, with its various shades of blue, seaside paintings and beach hut cushions.

If you fancy a swim in the sea, head to Readymoney Cove, a five-minute stroll or two-minute drive away. Or take advantage of chic Fowey's array of boutiques, cafes and restaurants. There's a pub and shops around 400 metres from this home, too.


Daphne's Paradise

Just one hundred metres from the water’s edge, this quiet cottage in Polruan is far enough from the action to feel like an escape but close enough that a short walk brings you to two characterful pubs and a quick three-mile drive places you at Lansallos Beach.
 
The unusual “upside down” configuration – bedrooms and bathrooms on the ground floor, lounge and kitchen up top – is designed to make the most of those stellar views across the harbour. Throw open the windows and watch the boats bob on the gentle waves as you nurse your morning coffee. 

When it’s fair out, pull on your walking boots and follow the coastline to Lantic Bay, a leisurely thirty-six-minute amble, or hop on the ferry and pootle over to Fowey. Come home, windswept and worn out for a well-earned gin and tonic in the tidy courtyard or a strong cup of tea in the cosy living space.
