We adore the fragrant, lavender-filled south-facing garden – it's the perfect spot for a sunny afternoon barbecue followed by a lavender martini. The level lawn is ideal for garden games too. The grounds here are a real highlight – there's even a beautiful pear tree flourishing at the front.

Inside, you'll find an array of character features such as the original quarry floor tiles in the hall, exposed stone walls, beams, decorative fireplaces and stained glass windows. There's a cosy snug as well as an elegant living room, so this place is ideal for families or friends looking to spread out a little. To top it all, there's parking for three cars in a private bay behind the house – a total bonus in such a central location.

When you feel like exploring this beautiful village, you'll discover its low bridges, pretty waterways and traditional stone houses. It's home to chic restaurants, traditional inns, cosy pubs and plenty of independent shops ripe for browsing. With countryside walks on your doorstep and many Cotswolds attractions within driving distance, this is a desirable place to be – and we absolutely adore this cottage, which is smack-dab in the centre of town. Once an antique showroom, this inviting homestead is now filled with local artwork – including paintings by the host's grandfather – as well as The Cotswold Company furniture and every amenity you can think of. Snuggle up with a book in front of the wood-burner, challenge the family to a board game around the dining table or relax with a soak in the sumptuous master bathtub. The private courtyard is the perfect spot to savour a cup of tea or a cocktail in the sun. In the evenings, light the barbecue and enjoy an alfresco meal, gathering around the fire pit for toasted marshmallows when the air turns chilly.

Locally, there are plenty of walks to enjoy through Lower Slaughter that run along the River Eye, along with a village pub serving delicious meals. Your host can provide one between April and October. The interior is modern but characterful, with a practical kitchen and a log-burning fireplace to cosy up on cooler nights. Location-wise, the Cotswolds offers endless walking trails, and you’ll also find Bourton on the Water and Chipping Norton within easy driving distance.

Step inside, and this ancient property is anything but twee. The four-storey house has been lovingly reimagined into a light-filled space awash in crisp whites, soothing greys and lavenders, and luxurious finishes. The original 1700's features remain (the oak beams and impressive stone staircase is quite something), while elsewhere, everything is firmly into the 21st Century. Set in the quaint village of Kingham, there's plenty of great pubs, restaurants and woodland footpaths nearby – you're perfectly placed for exploring the sprawling Cotswolds from this pretty cottage. Upon arrival, recharge your batteries with a hearty meal in the bright and airy dining area, benefitting from soaring ceilings and windows that flood the room with light. Cosy up with a good book around the exposed stone hearth fireplace or knock up few light bites in the modern kitchen with exposed beams overhead. While its rustic features add interest, the heated indoor pool and Turkish Hammam really steal the show – treat yourself to a morning dip, before exploring the gardens or sporting your finest whites on the tennis court. With so much to see and do around the home, we just know you'll run out of time at this peaceful oasis.

Dating back to the sixteenth century, this traditional stone cottage in the Cotswolds is bursting with rustic charm. Plenty of period features remain, including the inglenook fireplace now home to a wood-burning stove and the vaulted ceilings complete with ceiling beams.

However, there have been plenty of home improvements made in the past half-millennium. The beautifully arranged garden is a prime example, with the pergola and patio making it a lovely spot to catch the golden hour. Back inside, the rather grand dining-kitchen area is a modern interpretation of rural design, while we're willing to bet you'll also be thankful for the sleek bathtub after a long ramble.

The local village of Longborough has a twelfth-century church, two pubs and an opera festival that takes place in a converted barn during the summer months. Sezincote House and Garden makes for a splendid afternoon out and is only half an hour away on foot, too.

The weekly market is held every Wednesday, a bakery is a few steps away, and there’s a pub down the road – you’ll have everything you need right on your doorstep. Bourton-on-the-Water is a short drive away, and you’ll have lots of National Trust landmarks nearby. The cottage is cosy and welcoming, with a wood-burning stove and simple, elegant decor. The small courtyard garden has a water feature.

Wildlife-friendly, the farm is also home to rare native flora and fauna, and the owners are happy to sell you their honey, eggs, lamb and beautiful woven blankets produced from sheep on the farm. All this and it's just a twenty-minute drive to Cheltenham in one direction and to Stow-on-the-Wold in the other.
