Whether you're preparing breakfast in the mint green kitchenette, unwinding with a glass of wine on the comfy sofa or snuggling up in the sumptuous bed adorned with a William Morris duvet, you'll feel right at home here. And the views aren't too shabby, either. In the morning, savour a cup of tea and listen to the birdsong on the private patio, overlooking the tree-lined paddock. Evenings call for charcoal barbecues as the sun goes down, followed by glasses of wine under the stars. 

Ramblers will love this rural spot. Public footpaths lead through the rolling countryside towards the Cotswold Way and along the River Isbourne, and with pubs and restaurants in Winchcombe, you'll have everything you need just a stone's throw away. If it's the magic of the Cotswolds you're after, take an afternoon drive to Bourton-on-the-Water – it's twenty-five minutes away.

Nestled into the Sudeley Castle Estate, fringing the charming village of Winchcombe, you'll find this Cotswold stone 18th Century farmhouse. Spread out over three floors, with a separate annex to spill into, this home is the perfect country escape for an extended family or group of friends. Climb the flight of stairs to discover luxurious bedrooms to sleep all fourteen of you, with crisp, white linens and many with en-suites. Back downstairs, the layout is set up for easy socialising with a spacious kitchen made for action and two dining spaces. But there are also cosy nooks to retreat to, with a separate playroom and snug complete with a crackling fire.  Outside, kids and furry friends alike can roam free on the immaculate lawns, all under the watchful gaze of the grown-ups from the raised deck terrace as you fire up the barbecue. And when it's time to get out and about, you're right on the edge of Winchcombe, with restaurants, shops, and bars just a stroll away, as well as easy access to the area's many breathtaking walking trails. Or call in on your neighbourhoods at Sudeley Castle (ten minutes on foot) – guests have complimentary entrance during the open season, don't you know.

With characteristics from the 1880s, original features contrast beautifully with the high-standard furnishings and modern designs seen throughout the home. 

Upon entering the barn, you'll step straight into the stylish open-plan kitchen-dining area and living room, with exposed beams and characterful stone walls. We particularly love the lime green velvet sofa, which adds a tasteful pop of contemporary personality to the otherwise countryside design aesthetic. Across the rest of the home, you'll find soothing earthy tones and soft fabrics and furnishings that tempt those much-needed relaxation moments. 

When the weather is kind, enjoy alfresco meals on the patio terrace or a refreshing glass of wine in the sunshine while the kids play on the wooden swing set and slide in the courtyard.

It’s worth noting that the downstairs living space is compact and will feel particularly cosy if you have two dogs in tow. But there’s a decked terrace to spill out onto that you’ll share with another two cottages. Location-wise, Winchcombe, with traditional inns, tearooms and honey stone houses aplenty is just a short amble away.

Inside the cottage, a cosy wood-burning stove awaits – perfect for cold nights in – especially after a day spent walking through this idyllic scenery. The country-chic kitchen, dining table for eight and wonderful garden with expansive views are just the icing on the cake. If you'd like a change from the picture-postcard villages, then the charming town of Cheltenham is just eight miles away, while the beautiful cities of Oxford and Bath are a little over an hour's drive.

The historical centre of Winchcombe is only a short fifteen-minute walk away as well, which should set you up for at least a few days of sightseeing – there's so much to discover, from chocolate-box buildings to cute-as-button tea rooms. The home itself is furnished with antiques, original paintings, high-quality soft furnishings, and a lovely collection of books chosen by Lady Ashcroft herself – and you'll love curling up with one of them on the comfy armchairs – we especially love the rustic fireplace that keeps things ultra-cosy. Tucked along a tree-lined lane on the outskirts of Winchcombe, this sweet cottage is as cosy as it looks. The red brick exterior exudes a simple country charm, but step inside and you'll be surprised by the sophisticated living space and contemporary comforts.

From the honey-coloured rug to the blue velvet sofa, pops of bold colour are everywhere you look. The roomy kitchen is a dream for home cooks – it's stocked with bakeware, crockery and everything else you'll need to rustle up family suppers to share around the dining table. Another surprise is the private sun-dappled terrace. It calls for barbecues and sundowners in the fresh air, while the shared pasture is perfect for dogs. But our favourite part is by far the decadent bathroom. End the day with a bubble-filled soak in the freestanding tub – a glass of wine in hand – or if you're not one for baths, the rainfall feature in the walk-in shower is just as lush.

Outside, Winchcombe's medieval charms and rolling countryside are begging to be explored. Don your comfiest shoes and set off towards Sudeley Castle or the Cotswold Way – there's a public footpath just off the lane that connects to it – followed by a pint and pub grub at the local taverns in the village. For a change of scenery, Cheltenham, Bourton-on-the-Water and many other chocolate-box Cotswolds villages are within driving distance.

Accommodating up to seven guests across four bedrooms, one of which sits in a separate annexe, this is sure to be a blissful retreat from the mundane and an idyllic spot for loved ones to spend some quality time with one another, all while maintaining their own bit of privacy. Explore the local area on foot with long country walks along the charming historic paths and lanes of Winchcombe. You'll be spoiled for things to do in this Cotswolds location, from horse riding and cycling to afternoon teas and a good old pub lunch – there truly is something for everyone. But let be known a stay here simply isn't complete without a trip to Sudeley Castle and Gardens, just a ten-minute walk along Vineyard Street. With gourmet restaurants, bakeries and local supermarkets all within walking distance on the high street – it's needless to say convenience is a huge highlight of this gorgeous countryside spot.

But just as you thought it couldn’t get any more outstanding, how does staying on a castle estate sound? Just a twenty-one-minute drive from the bustling city of Cheltenham, this apartment offers a regal base to come home to after a day at the races.

While you could spend all day perusing Sudeley Castle and its ten gorgeous gardens (which you can do as much as you want, with free entry as a guest of the cottage), you’ve got history to discover closer to home. Your cottage is set in an old paper mill, where you can admire original timber beams and exposed stone walls throughout.

Within these cosy interiors, the lounge exudes a certain warmth that feels unique to rural England. There’s a well-appointed kitchen for home-cooked suppers and a neat courtyard with alfresco dining set for breakfasts in the sunshine. Spend a morning exploring the magnificent castle and gardens before strolling into Winchcombe, less than ten minutes away. Here, you’ll find a pretty High Street lined with bakeries, indie boutiques and quaint tearooms. If you’ve a taste for fine dining, the Michelin starred 5 in Winchcombe restaurant is sure to impress. But if it's pub grub and local brews you’re after, the nearby inns will set you right. 

Willow Stream

Named in memory of King George III, this 18th-century forge may come with a lot of history, but it also has everything you could need for a cosy retreat. From the snug rooms and garden views to the shared terrace, it’s easy to settle in and make it your own. Children’s amenities can be arranged on request and well-behaved dogs are welcome to join you for an additional fee. Set in the heart of Winchcombe, where walking trails will allow you to fully absorb the natural beauty of your surroundings, try the Sudeley Castle Circular for a more leisurely stroll before taking on any of the harder routes. Stop off at one of the stand-out restaurants for lunch and then return home to where understated comfort awaits.

The homeliness mostly comes down to the mix of old and new – find the exposed beams overhead, the brick walls and statement fireplaces, and then sweep your eyes over the glass conservatory and curated art, the furnishings and beautiful colour palette. The entire home has a rustic touch that makes it feel like an elegant farmhouse. 

Pick a spot and get cosy – whether that be in front of the wood-burning stove, in the bright conservatory, or outside where you can enjoy a book and cup of coffee on the manicured lawn.

Set in Ford, an attractive hamlet along the banks of the River Windrush, this romantic cottage offers the highest levels of charm and comfort for your Cotswolds escape. It’s hidden away within the grounds of the host’s own home, but offers complete privacy. There’s a small but well-equipped galley kitchen with a Nespresso machine and milk frother for a little luxury morning coffee. But our favourite bit is the four-poster, king-size bed which guarantees a luxurious night’s sleep. just what you need after a day tackling some of the best hiking routes in the Cotswolds. The Cotswolds Way runs right by the cottage and walks around Sudeley Castle are just a few miles away.

Country Honey

With its coastal-inspired colour scheme, sumptuous furnishings and suntrap patio, this cosy cottage in the quiet Cotswold village of Alderton is a real home from home. Begin mornings with a cooked breakfast in the bright dining room before throwing open the patio doors and bowling out into the garden for lawn games in the warm sunshine. Enjoy cream tea on the patio or if the sky turns grey, bring it inside and curl up on the L-shaped couch in the inviting living space – we loved warming our toes in front of the wood-burner when the temperature dropped.

Take advantage of balmy days with a stroll through the endless countryside that surrounds your home – there are two circular walks close by, including a 5.5-mile ramble from Alderton to Dumbleton and back. Or why not jump in the car and explore the Regency town of Cheltenham? It’s only a twenty-minute drive away. What better way to end another idyllic afternoon in the Cotswolds than with some pub grub and a glass of rosé at the Gardeners’ Arms, just a five-minute stroll from your doorstep.

Based in the village of Stanton, you've got the Cotswolds on your doorstep here, ideal for intrepid explorers. At home, you'll find historic features alongside modern touches – we were particularly fond of the original inglenook fireplace and the kitchen's skylight. After a hike, you'll want to relax in the freestanding bathtub before enjoying a barbecue out in the garden. Alternatively, head to the nearby pub or cook up a roast in the well-equipped kitchen.

Second Nature is the best of both worlds. Found on the edge of Cheltenham, it’s only a short drive from the city, while still feeling incredibly idyllic and rural because of its immediate surroundings. Ideally placed for countryside walks, the Cotswold Way passes right behind the home, along with several other walking paths. We loved the attention to detail – the handmade, one-of-a-kind four-poster bed is truly something else. And let’s not forget about the views… We particularly enjoyed gazing at the green fields from the living room window.

Believe it or not, this home actually used to be a barn. There are no animals left, just lots of character and charm. Set in the Cotswolds, in between Stow and Cheltenham, it's part of a larger estate complete with a children's playground and a wonderful on-site pantry that serves excellent coffee and food. A mix of eye-catching antique pieces and quirky art installations, it opens up to a bright, welcoming courtyard that’s perfect for both relaxing and socialising. We also loved the private pool (yes, you read that right), where you can enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding greenery and grassland.

In terms of style, it's all stone floors, oak beams and classic country furnishings. There's a garden room, a large kitchen-diner and, if the youngsters would rather watch a film separately, there's a cosy snug. Explore the farm, owned by the same family for 220 years, and you may meet some of their rare breed sheep, cattle, hens and pet donkeys. Wildlife-friendly, the farm is also home to rare native flora and fauna, and the owners are happy to sell you their honey, eggs, lamb and beautiful woven blankets produced from sheep on the farm. All this and it's just a twenty-minute drive to Cheltenham in one direction and to Stow-on-the-Wold in the other.
