This beautifully converted trullo boasts plenty of traditional charm and you'll be transported back in time thanks to the curves and arches of the whitewashed walls and the conical stone roof. That doesn't mean you'll be without modern luxuries, though. You'll have your own indoor pool complete with jets and a pretty water feature, making this home a true oasis of calm. 

Begin your day with a leisurely breakfast on the private courtyard terrace, where you can sip coffee and soak up the atmosphere for a while. We highly recommend you explore the town, where craft shops, ancient churches and a sloping maze of trulli-lined streets look as if they could've been plucked from the pages of a fairytale. For an authentic Apulian experience, it doesn't get much better than this exquisite trullo, a ten-minute walk from the centre of the picturesque town of Alberobello. Set within seven acres of sun-soaked gardens, a stay here encourages you to turn off and tune out the noise of everyday life and enjoy the simple pleasures of the sun on your skin, the scent of flowers and fantastic food.

Inside, your hosts have managed to seamlessly blend old and new, to create an elegant style all of their own. Surrounded by multiple metres of exposed stone walls and beautiful beams, you'll encounter bespoke cabinetry, local handicrafts and a sprinkling of mid-century inspiration. This cluster of Trulli homes is like a fairytale illustration come to life. Each bone-white stone structure is home to a separate bedroom, kitchen and living room, with the outside space connecting them all together. Inside, comfy beds are nestled in archways and circular rooms have bare stone walls for an authentic feel. There’s no shortage of mod-cons though, with flatscreen TVs and desks for remote working if you need.

Really, though, this place was made for outdoor living, making the most of the sunny climes of Italy’s heel. There’s a full outdoor kitchen with a traditional stone bread oven, and myriad places to dine in the sun or shade – the choice is yours. Seats in the shade of ancient olive trees provide a moment’s respite. But the piece de resistance has to be the covered hot tub, surrounded by sun loungers to dry off after.

The location is a boon too, just outside the centre of one of Puglia’s prettiest towns – Locorotondo. A cluster of white medieval churches makes up the historic hilltop centre, where winding cobbled streets are filled with family-run trattoria and slow-food eateries. The UNESCO town of Ostuni is also within day-trip distance if you have a car.

The partially enclosed porch and outdoor dining table are only just outshined by the private swimming pool. There's also a nook with a stone barbecue. It's ideal for families or friends wanting to explore the Italian countryside.

Ranging over 14,000 square meters, you'll find green olive groves, lush orchards and even a mini-playground. With the birds chirping and the wind blowing through the trees, it's a true respite from everyday life. Grab a glass of wine and settle down at one of the verandas, spend summer days cooling off in the pool and enjoy alfresco meals under the setting sun. For a change of scenery, explore the small towns in the Valle dei Trulli. Alberobello – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – is just a fifteen-minute drive away, while the caverns at Grotte di Castellana are also worth a day trip.

It’s just a five-minute drive from beautiful Alberobello, and looks out over a quiet valley – the views are dreamy. This home is spread between two trulli, so you won’t all be sleeping under the same roof. You’ll have plenty of space to gather together, though, especially outside. Lounge beside the private pool or dine alfresco on the patio. There’s a great mix of sun and shade, and the cosy trulli, with their stone walls, are calm and comfortable.

You will need a car to get around, but it’s just a ten-minute drive to Cisternino, while the nearest beaches are thirty minutes away. 

Tales from the Trullo

From the first sip of chilled local wine (produced in small batches and provided by your host to welcome you), you know this villa is going to be an ode to Puglian tradition. The conical roofs of the Trulli-style buildings that surround the terrace are another giveaway. It’s a peaceful spot, surrounded by rows and rows of vines with grapes ripening in the southern sun. The beautiful hilltop town of Locorotondo is just four kilometres away, where a shambling maze of pretty whitewashed houses hides cafe-filled squares.

Wandering the stone paths and patios of the grounds, you’ll find shaded spots between ancient olive trees, an outdoor kitchen under a towering fir tree and dining on the lawn. We particularly love the lounge spot by the swimming pool, beneath a pergola where sheer white curtains billow in the breeze. And the swimming pool itself is a delight – big enough to swim laps and crowned with a paddling area for the kids. 

In true Trulli style, there are several kitchens, dining rooms and living rooms spread across the buildings. Stepping inside feels like you’ve travelled back in time with stone archways and fireplaces adorning living rooms and furniture that’s been hand-picked from vintage markets and fairs. Bedrooms hark back to the old world with wrought-iron frames and crisp white walls, but the near-constant sunshine means days here were meant to be spent outside.

Surrounded by olive and fruit trees, this newly built villa constructed in the traditional Puglian style is ideal for those who want to go off-grid for a little while.

Once you've switched your phone off, you can get around to the important business of swimming in the saltwater pool, dozing under the pergola or cooking up a feast on the outdoor barbecue and serving to grateful guests sat underneath the covered terrace.

All this and we haven't got around to the home's interior, yet. The white walls and tiled flooring make for an instantly soothing living space, while the wooden furnishings and wicker light fittings add a rustic charm.

Although the location feels wonderfully tranquil, the nearest town of Alberobello — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — only takes five minutes to reach in the car, while there are seafood restaurants aplenty in the port town of Savelletri only half an hour's drive away.

Although a drive to the coast takes less than twenty-minutes, you’ll probably be so lost in the comforts of this home that you end up spending most of your time here. Mealtimes in the dining area and outside by the trees always feel like such a treat – rustle up a meal and sit down to breakfast as you share in the holiday joy with friends and family. When the sun starts to set, fire up the grill and tuck into a candlelit dinner. A night swim and a moment under the stars with a glass of Barolo will send you off to bed with the sweetest dreams.

It’s in a great position for exploring Puglia, though we’d recommend bringing a car to do so. The home is traditional and inviting. We love the panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, which can be enjoyed from the terrace. Outside, you’ll find a private pool in addition to a fantastic alfresco dining area – there’s a pizza oven and barbecue to cook on.

This historic villa has been renovated to provide modern comforts while retaining its traditional Apulian rural style.
