Sure, you’ll need to climb the spiral staircase to reach the rooftop terrace, but the vistas are worth it. Fancy a splash in the sea? There’s direct access here – just take the stairs down 200 metres. Ideal for extended families or a group of friends, the separate annexe also affords two guests a little extra privacy. Massa Lubrense is only two kilometres away when you fancy some Italian cuisine, and well worth a visit.

From here, it’s just a fifteen minute drive into Sorrento and the nearest beaches. The bus stop is just a three-minute walk away and your host is on hand to help organise private transfers.

Take a seat on the scenic rooftop terrace and look out over the tree-covered hillside that plunges down to the sea, where pleasure craft and colourful fishing boats bob in Marina della Lobra. 

This charming two-storey apartment makes the most of its seaside spot with an upside-down layout – bedrooms on the entrance level, and an open kitchen and living area on the first floor, leading out onto that show-stealing terrace. Floor-to-ceiling doors fold back to allow easy access to the outdoors, where you can soak up the sun on the rattan-style seating, pop the umbrella up for some respite from the midday sun, or barbecue a banquet for the whole party on the grill. 

White and blue dominate the decor throughout, reflecting the azure hues of the sea and sky, plus the occasional passing cloud. The main bedroom also boasts its own private balcony that opens out onto fragrant lemon and olive trees that are used to create all manner of sumptuous local products.

During the summer months, boat trips depart from the marina to explore the breathtaking natural and manmade beauty of the Lubrense coast, the enticing island of Capri and the sheer cliffs of Amalfi. While there might not be a beach to speak of, the rocky shore makes for a great base for cooling swims in these protected waters. Alternatively, hop in the car for a short drive to any one of several sun-lounger-lined beaches nearby, or continue along winding coastal roads to the breathtaking towns of Positano, Amalfi and Ravello.

There's realistically only one thing we can start with when talking about this home and that's the gorgeous view of the Gulf of Naples that lies out of the main living area's huge window. Thankfully, these French doors open wide and the balcony lets you take in the coastal panorama with the sunlight on your skin. If you're still in need of another vantage point, guests also get access to a communal roof terrace with some seating on which to clink glasses while the sun sets in the background.

Right, enough about the scenery, because the apartment itself deserves some praise. There's an elegant simplicity to the design, with the whitewashed walls working well with the ample amounts of natural light, plus a minimalist kitchen ready and waiting for Italian feasts. We also like the ceramics collection arranged in alcoves in the hallways, which pay homage to the region's culture and heritage in chic fashion.

As you can tell by looking out the window, you don't have to venture far to find the beach – as a matter of fact, Spiaggia di San Montano is only 200 metres away. There are a few bars and restaurants in the local area, but for a wider choice along with some magnificent historic architecture, Sorrento is just a short drive away up the coastline.

Home to the King of Naples in the early 19th century, this breathtaking villa is steeped in history, boasting a whole host of traditional design features that are sure to delight even the most discerning guest. Once the residence of the noble d'Avalos family, this 18th-century villa close to the tip of the Amalfi Coast still retains an air of grandeur. Some of this is down to the stately proportions of the large rooms and the archways that connect them up, although the refined interior design also plays a pretty pivotal role – we defy anybody not to be instantly won over by the antique furnishings, ornate chandeliers and smart tiling throughout.

The outside space is just as swoon-worthy. Not only are there remarkable views of the Gulf of Naples and the islands bobbing about in this blanket of azure to be had from the balcony, but there are plenty of ways to pass hot afternoons. The swimming pool will be a welcome sight when the temperature starts to climb and the verdant garden also has lots of shady spots in among the Mediterranean vegetation. There's also a rather chic glass-roofed verandah on which to dine alfresco, too.

With four bedrooms and bathrooms across three levels, there’s space for everyone to spread out here – and for families, there’s the option of sliding open the interconnecting door in the double bedrooms to create one larger, shared space for four. Choosing between the three sun-drenched terraces could be one of the hardest decisions you have to make, or you may prefer to take the twelve steps down to the sea from the lower level terrace, just the spot to relax with a glass of wine.

If overlooking the coast from the edge of an infinity pool has always been on your bucket list, it's time to get down to this Mediterranean oasis. Perched in Massa Lubrense, the panoramic views are but one of the reasons we fell in love with this villa. The various balconies offer ample outdoor seating, and there are also dining tables made for alfresco dining. With a stone oven, you can put pizza-making skills to the test. And the hot tub, though indoors, still has a view of the lush garden. True, the indoors can't compete with the sweeping landscape, but it's bright and comfortable with plenty of room – even for guests sleeping on the sofa beds.

Situated just 5km from Sorrento town, this villa offers 180-degree views of the sea and Gulf of Naples with Capri Island in the distance. It features a large living room with high ceilings and modern furnishings, but the real standout is out on the private terrace, complete with sun loungers and a jacuzzi tub. There's also an outside dining area for alfresco meals in the sunshine. If you feel like a change of scenery, the nearest beach is a fifteen-minute walk away, while the beach of Marina di Puolo is 2.5km from the villa.

Housed in a residential building, this sleek room offers a convenient hotel alternative for solo travellers or couples, equipped with everything needed for a fuss-free stay. Location-wise, you're in the heart of Sorrento, just a short walk from the beach. You'll also be within easy reach of the port, with restaurants and bars on your doorstep – handy, as this pad doesn't come with a kitchen. The interiors are a little basic for our liking, but it's modern and there's a dedicated workspace. Plus, the freestanding tub is the perfect place to relax after busy days spent travelling.

Enjoy a jolly stay in this colourful home, located in the very heart of Sorrento and close to the metro and bus station for easy adventuring. This home is ideal for a couple or solo traveller and boasts fun interiors with bright murals, funky furniture and arty decor that make it feel special and unique. We absolutely love the tiled splashback in the kitchen, and the vibrant feature wall in the bedroom – both give the home so much character.

You can start sunny mornings out on your balcony, soaking in views of the sea while you sip on your morning coffee. Come in to cook up some delicious Italian scrambled eggs, and eat together at your kitchen dining table. Head out to explore the restaurants and bars in the town, as well as the stunning beaches located just a short stroll away. We adore the quirky touches here, too – our favourite is the stone wall in the shower, which uses the rocky facade of the mountain. 

Did we mention the two sun-kissed balconies? Both offer excellent spots to breathe in the coastal breezes and bask in Sorrento's good weather. Whether you're dining alfresco under the shady parasol or sharing a bottle of Italian wine on the outdoor sofas, this is the place to sit back, relax and fall in love with Sorrento.

Location-wise, you can't do much better. Beaches, eateries and shops are all just steps away. Take a stroll along the postcard-pretty marina in the mornings, followed by lunch at a waterfront restaurant. Do some sightseeing in the historic centre in the afternoons, including a wander around Piazza Tasso and a stop off at the Cattedrale dei Santi Filippo e Giacomo. You're also about an hour or so drive from Naples and Pompeii – perfect for day trips.
