Set in a historic building (which used to be the Habsburg embassy in the nineteenth century), Eyes To The Sky makes an impression from very early on. It’s ridiculously grand, with double-height, frescoed ceilings, and antique furniture (along with a few modern, designer additions). It’s just around the corner from Piazza della Libertà, so it’s just away from the most crowded parts of the centre, but even walking to the Ponte Vecchio doesn’t take more than twenty minutes.

A short stroll from the museums of Piazza San Marco and the famous Accademia Gallery, packed with Renaissance artworks, this chi chi little apartment has you in the heart of Florence. We always love to see homes that manage to mix together period features and modern design, and this apartment in a stately mansion in the centre of Florence is a glowing example of how to manage this balance. 

Under high ceilings and arched walls, you'll find a colour palette of muted greys broken up by some welcome bursts of bold green and yellow, plus large artworks that nod to the city's illustrious heritage. The kitchen is both pleasingly contemporary and much larger than we often see in homes this size. Brilliantly efficient, Blue Heron combines easy living with a great location. The design here is clean, modern, and comfortable, but because it’s run by a management company it does lack a bit of character. We won’t hold that against Blue Heron though, because you’ll find it in the very heart of Florence, just a few minutes’ walk from the Duomo. Better yet, this street is quiet and surprisingly uncrowded given its proximity to Florence’s biggest tourist attraction. There’s even a charming balcony that looks the courtyard – a perfect spot for an espresso or a glass of wine.

We love the second bedroom, accessed via a spiral staircase and oozing tranquillity – just watch your head on those sloping ceilings and beams. For more Renaissance creations, the iconic Uffizi Gallery lies around 700m to the south – well within walking distance. We'd recommend a leisurely riverside stroll along the River Arno afterwards, or if you're feeling active, head out on a stand-up paddleboarding expedition downriver.

You need only walk six minutes to reach the Uffizi and ten minutes to the Duomo.
