We love the wooden floors and the ceiling beams, but the real star of this home is its location. Staying here, you’re based in a quiet neighbourhood that’s close to the top sights of the city. You need only walk six minutes to reach the Uffizi and ten minutes to the Duomo.

Set over three floors of a medieval tower, this characterful apartment is a bit of a climb, but trust us, it's worth it. With its tiled floors, antique furniture and stone walls, there's plenty of rustic charm on offer. But head on up the spiral staircase to the top-floor lounge, and you'll be blown away by the panoramic views. From up here, the entire city is stretched out before you. Admire the iconic red dome of the Duomo, watch the sunset over the Palazzo Vecchio and spot the spires of the Basilica of Santa Croce. Day or night, the sweeping scenes are some of the best in Florence, and they're entirely your own. Just grab a glass of wine and take it all in from the cosy sofa. You'll be just steps from attractions like the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, as well as plenty of shops and restaurants for stocking up on essentials and trying the local cuisine.

In the heart of Florence, this apartment puts you within walking distance of the city's many famous landmarks. Among them are the Duomo (ten minutes on foot), Uffizi Gallery (a fifteen-minute walk) and Ponte Vecchio (also reachable in fifteen minutes) – not to mention a bevvy of shops and restaurants. Due to its ground-floor position, there's little natural light here. But we can overlook that since there's something better – a private courtyard garden. Outdoor space is rare in this postcode, making it the perfect spot for post-sightseeing aperitifs. As the living area has a sofa bed, we recommend this pad for short trips, especially if you're a group of six.

This Florentine apartment has earned a place in our collection for it’s standout central location. In the heart of the Sant'Ambrogio district, you’re just a stroll away from some of Florence’s must-see attractions, such as Duomo di Firenze and Ponte Vecchio. And if that’s not enough, you’ll also have a local market and an array of restaurants close by. At full occupancy, two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed in the lounge area so it won’t be the most private of spaces, but with a breakfast bar and dining table in the mix, we think there’s enough room for everyone.

Not many people have the privilege of saying that their local church dates back to the late thirteenth century and is one of the largest such buildings in the world, but you can include yourself in this number if you stay in this apartment five minutes' walk from the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore.

Aside from the illustrious neighbour, there's plenty to like about this home on the first floor of a historic building. The high ceilings, tall windows and burnt yellow walls lean into the city's architectural heritage, while the minimalist kitchen and sleek bathrooms belong well and truly in the 21st century. As well as this pleasant interior which is generous when it comes to space, the address also benefits from two terraces, one of which overlooks a peaceful garden.

There are plenty of other notable attractions in the local area, including Bargello National Museum and Accademia Gallery, which can both be reached in ten minutes on foot. You're well served by restaurants and bars in the surrounding streets, as well.

We were sold on this Florentine apartment's private terrace alone – and that was before we'd even clapped eyes on the lofted living space. While both double bedrooms are charming, the last guest will have to make do with a sofa bed in the lounge, which is overlooked by the loft bedroom balcony above. So, while it's an impressive feature, it's not the most private space. Set in the characterful Santa Croce district, you're set back from the tourist traps immediately around the Duomo yet within easy walking distance of the must-see sights. Get off to a flying start at Piazza Santa Croce – it's just around the corner.

As you arrive at its imposing entrance, it has a gothic look with dark stone facade and a grand front door painted black. Any ideas what it used to be? For centuries, this building was the official residence of the city’s executioners, known as Casa del Boia. However, this modern apartment is now a far cry from its past, offering a fresh and modern vibe in the heart of this ancient city. 

We love the bright green velvet sofa, glossy black coffee table, and jungle-print wall hanging in the lounge. They might not be the traditional Italian features you’d expect, which is exactly what makes this home so unique. For a similar surprise, head into one of the bathrooms. With vibrant orange wallpaper featuring a flamingo print all over, these wonderfully unexpected and joyful interiors can certainly make up for its former residents.

If you do eat at home, you’ll notice the dining table in the hallway – it’s a little quirky, but we’re fans of unique touches. Especially the tiled floors. The charming courtyard is a fantastic touch, too.

Delivering knockout vistas of Florence's rooftops and the mighty Duomo from nearly every room, we've fallen hard for this central bolthole. Each light-filled bedroom is as elegant as the next, though they are short on floor and storage space, so we recommend packing lightly. It's also worth noting at full occupancy, it could be a squeeze to all kick back on the sofa, and while the kitchen is well-equipped, it's short on prepping space. It's the perfect excuse to eat out instead, and luckily, you're an olive stone's throw from countless traditional trattorias for all the Tuscan classics.
