Each light-filled bedroom is as elegant as the next, though they are short on floor and storage space, so we recommend packing lightly. Set in a historic building, we love this apartment’s view of the River Arno and Florentine architecture from the elegant living room. If you want to do some Italian cooking while you are here, the kitchen, though quite compact, has everything you probably need. Or, there are plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby to enjoy. This address, in the heart of Florence, means many of the city’s attractions are a short walk. The Museo Bardini is 20 metres away, while the Ponte Vecchio and the Fortezza di Belvedere are both around 600 metres from this home.

In the heart of Florence, this apartment puts you within walking distance of the city's many famous landmarks. Among them are the Duomo (ten minutes on foot), Uffizi Gallery (a fifteen-minute walk) and Ponte Vecchio (also reachable in fifteen minutes) – not to mention a bevvy of shops and restaurants. Due to its ground-floor position, there's little natural light here. But we can overlook that since there's something better – a private courtyard garden. Outdoor space is rare in this postcode, making it the perfect spot for post-sightseeing aperitifs. As the living area has a sofa bed, we recommend this pad for short trips, especially if you're a group of six.

Split over the second and third floor of the building, the open kitchen, living and dining room is on the lower level, facing the quiet of an internal courtyard. The upper level is dedicated to the huge main bedroom with a covered terrace overlooking the Corso dei Tintori.

We were sold on this Florentine apartment's private terrace alone – and that was before we'd even clapped eyes on the lofted living space. While both double bedrooms are charming, the last guest will have to make do with a sofa bed in the lounge, which is overlooked by the loft bedroom balcony above. So, while it's an impressive feature, it's not the most private space. Set in the characterful Santa Croce district, you're set back from the tourist traps immediately around the Duomo yet within easy walking distance of the must-see sights. Get off to a flying start at Piazza Santa Croce – it's just around the corner.

Located in a 19th-century Palazzo in the bustling Santa Croce neighbourhood, this apartment is a comfortable bolthole for families, friends or couples.
