We love the wooden floors and the ceiling beams, but the real star of this home is its location. Staying here, you’re based in a quiet neighbourhood that’s close to the top sights of the city. You need only walk six minutes to reach the Uffizi and ten minutes to the Duomo.

In the heart of the Sant'Ambrogio district, you’re just a stroll away from some of Florence’s must-see attractions, such as Duomo di Firenze and Ponte Vecchio. We were sold on this Florentine apartment's private terrace alone – and that was before we'd even clapped eyes on the lofted living space. While both double bedrooms are charming, the last guest will have to make do with a sofa bed in the lounge, which is overlooked by the loft bedroom balcony above. So, while it's an impressive feature, it's not the most private space. Set in the characterful Santa Croce district, you're set back from the tourist traps immediately around the Duomo yet within easy walking distance of the must-see sights. Get off to a flying start at Piazza Santa Croce – it's just around the corner.

Renaissance Hideaway

In the heart of Florence, this apartment puts you within walking distance of the city's many famous landmarks. Among them are the Duomo (ten minutes on foot), Uffizi Gallery (a fifteen-minute walk) and Ponte Vecchio (also reachable in fifteen minutes) – not to mention a bevvy of shops and restaurants. Due to its ground-floor position, there's little natural light here. But we can overlook that since there's something better – a private courtyard garden. Outdoor space is rare in this postcode, making it the perfect spot for post-sightseeing aperitifs. As the living area has a sofa bed, we recommend this pad for short trips, especially if you're a group of six.

But, it's worth noting you'll have to earn those views by climbing five flights of stairs up to the apartment. Still, it's cosy and the building peaks and spires across the river are still visible even from inside the living room.
