The apartment itself is like a time capsule of Renaissance Florence with gilded mirrors adorning the walls, herringbone floors, and oil paintings above plush beds. There’s plenty of seats in the living room; leather sofas, recliner chairs and a beautiful serpentine sofa to embrace palatial living. They say when in Rome, do as the Romans do. You also get glimpses of the cathedral from the living room (which also sleeps guests seven and eight on a sofa bed). One bedroom is on a mezzanine, the second overlooks the same views while the third has a courtyard outlook. Located in the heart of the vibrant Santo Spirito district, you’ll be just a few steps from the square and the Boboli Gardens, while Florence Cathedral is within walking distance.

They place you in the medieval architecture the city is famous for, and that sense of history is invaluable. The kitchen isn’t huge, but it’s perfectly good for simple meals and preparing a cocktail at aperitivo. There’s also the possibility of renting out one or two of the sister flats, found on the same landing. It’s not small in the first place, but between them, these three can hold a group of sixteen people.

Or why not cross the Ponte alla Carraia into the heart of the city for the iconic Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fior and the bustling Piazza della Repubblica – an excellent spot to people watch with a coffee in hand.

What an outstanding location this fabulous home has in Florence – it's less than a minute's stroll from the medieval splendour of Ponte Vecchio. The magnificent Palazzo Pitti, one of Florence's largest architectural monuments, is a five-minute stroll away – a good time to visit is at sunset when the façade turns a pink hue. It's the same walking distance to the Uffizi Gallery in the historical centre of Florence. The wonderful markets at Piazza Santo Spirito, on the other hand, are a six-minute saunter – perfect for a morning browse. Of course, as you'd expect from one of the city's most desirable areas – there are plenty of fine restaurants right on your doorstep, as well as a couple of artisan wine shops. Enjoy some cantuccini dipped in vin santo on the gorgeous, large balcony or create some tagliatelle funghi porcini e tartufo from local truffles for dinner in the open-plan kitchen and enjoy at your dining table. We love the vintage prints that adorn the walls here, as well as the French doors with their views over the neighbourhood. After a busy day of sightseeing, have a soak in the bathtub and then get some rest in the serene bedrooms before another day in beguiling Florence.

It’s rare to find a garden apartment in the centre of Florence, especially one that only shares its plant-filled courtyard with one other home. Guests here have access to a big courtyard garden, furnished for evening drinks or meals outside and with a solarium should the weather turn. Home of an architect, Alberata Selva has been meticulously designed to a coherent theme, and anything that doesn’t fit has been jettisoned. It’s the sort of obsession we understand. The flat itself is fairly large anyway, but it’s worth knowing that it would be excellent for very big groups, as both other places on the same floor of the building are run by Daniele and his team. If all booked together, they could take as many as sixteen guests at once.

In the heart of Florence's trendy Oltrarno neighbourhood, this charming apartment is ideal for friends and families. Located on the top floor, both bedrooms have their own en-suites and there's a small balcony with space to stand out and enjoy the fresh air. The central location means you can expect some outside noise and one of the bathrooms is very small, but you'll have everything you need for a comfortable stay and the location is great for sightseeing. You'll be right across the road from the beautiful Palazzo Pitti and Boboli Gardens, and public transport is nearby for getting around.

Palazzo Pitti Retreat

With a charming terrace overlooking red-tiled roofs, we love that this home immerses you in Florence. You're just a short walk from Ponte Vecchio here, and you'll find a wide range of eateries closeby. Back at home, the second bedroom's ensuite opens up into the bedroom – as there's no curtain, we think it's better for baths. In addition, you'll be climbing several flights of stairs to reach this third-floor home as there's no elevator – though we think the terrace makes it worth the walk. It also might not be suitable for some during summer – there's only air conditioning in the living areas, though there are plenty of windows to let in a breeze.

The Lofty Vision

With a great location in the hip Santo Spirito district, this two-storey Florence home is ideal for travellers who want the best local vibes. There are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby, and lots of the city's most famous attractions are within walking distance. Back at home, there are several outdoor spaces if you want to enjoy the sun, though neither stands out – especially as there are several parks in the area. And while the home's style isn't going to win a design award, there's everything you need for a comfortable stay.

The Modern Floret

Tresillo is located on one of Florence's most characterful streets, right in the heart of the city – Ponte Vecchio is just a four minute walk away. Though the interior of the home is fairly pared back, we liked the balance of the modern design with the home's original features. The kitchen was our favourite room – the sleek black counters act as a striking focal point against the exposed brick wall. While there's not much lounging space (just the two armchairs) we didn't see this as an issue, especially as we expect you'll be out most of the day exploring the incredible location.

This wonderful apartment can be found right at the heart of beautiful Florence. It’s a bright and welcoming space, the perfect home from home for couples or a family hoping to experience authentic Firenze. Here you get to live as locals do, while also being within a few minutes' walk of every major sight. 

When you get up in the morning, you’ll likely want to sip coffee and eat pastries on the balcony. From there you can watch the city come to life as you plan your day. It’s always a good idea to head to the Uffizi Gallery nice and early, so we’d start there. When you’ve had your fill of incredible art – which is just a twelve-minute walk from the apartment – grab an outdoor table at a trattoria for lunch. Sip a glass of Chianti while you dine on spaghetti puttanesca. Boboli's Brother

Argonaut is all about the view. It looks directly down onto the Arno and the Ponte Vecchio – one of Florence’s iconic structures. Even for a city known for its beautiful scenes, this is special. Inside, the flat feels quite retro – it could easily be from the 60s, if you weren’t aware of the more modern amenities. Of course, not everyone will go for that aesthetic, but it’s a coherent, thought-through theme, and one that’s been executed well. 


Argonaut

Snowball's location is unbeatable – the postcard-worthy view of Ponte Vecchio from your flower-laced balcony is an absolute dream. From here, exploring Florence on foot will be easy, and you'll appreciate the quiet atmosphere inside after a long day of sightseeing. The design leans heavily towards functionality, but the living room windows provide ample natural light and we liked the feeling of dining (almost) outside by the balcony. 

Snowball

This one-bedroom apartment in the heart of Florence boasts a lovely rooftop terrace with sweeping views across the city. You'll have space for dining alfresco, and shops and supermarkets are just minutes away on foot. There's a large flight of steps to reach the entrance, which won't be suitable for everyone, but the views and location are more than worth it. If you're looking for a cosy spot that's a bit out of the way but still within walking distance of attractions and restaurants, look no further.

Florence Retreat

While we'd never encourage people to lob projectiles at Florence's famous medieval bridge, those with a strong arm and a keen aim could probably throw a stone at Ponte Vecchio from this apartment's balcony. Perched just above the River Arno, it's a truly peaceful setting and offers a unique perspective of the destination. 

Back inside, there's a classic feel to the design, with parquet floors, artworks lining the walls and antique furnishings lending the atmosphere of a museum or an exclusive members' club. That being said, there are contemporary touches too, like the sleek bathrooms and mosaiced kitchen.

Aside from the famous river crossings, there's plenty more to see in the immediate area. Both the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum and Uffizi Gallery can be reached in under five minutes on foot, while Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens sit a little bit further away just across the Arno.

The kitchen is a tad dated but has everything you need to whip up something tasty. All in all, this makes a fantastic base in the heart of the city.
