When we think of Lake Como, we dream of beautiful views over shimmering water and mountains beyond. With this apartment, you don't have to imagine – take a look at the vistas from the terrace. Okay, maybe you'd call them lake glimpses through the trees, but that adds to the charm. Inside, the interiors are rustic and at full capacity, two people will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the open-plan living space. If that's not an issue, there's plenty to explore out and about. Located in Blevio, there's the stunning Giardinetti Di Sorto, a short walk away, or go for a hike through the forests of Sasso del Lupo nearby.

There’s also a private boat dock here. Inside, the antique furnishings may not be to everyone’s taste, but we think it adds to the charm. Marvel at the breathtaking views of Lake Como at this tranquil lake-front retreat. There's a large, shared veranda that opens onto a small courtyard where you can enjoy your alfresco meals. There's also access to a small garden planted with gorgeous, scented lavenders, while in the winter, pretty camellias flower. The vistas are incredible from the stone table here – you can see the lakeshore from Como to Cernobbio, from Villa d'Este up to Villa Fontanelle in Moltrasio.

Once a barn, the home has lovely character features such as exposed stone walls and white painted beams, which we adore. It's decorated with Lombard style furniture, vintage objects and hand-embroidered linens. Pop some vinyl on the turntable and relax on the comfy sofa in the living space or whip up a risotto in the kitchenette to enjoy on the terrace. 

Out and about, the village of Blevio is a seven-minute stroll, while Como, with its Basilica di San Fedele and beautiful Giardini del Tempio Voltiano, is a twelve-minute drive away.

Nestled in the charming town of Blevio, this apartment is ideal for a solo traveller or a couple. You'll want to pack light here as space is tight and the traditional style won't be for everyone, but if you're a creative looking for an authentically Italian stay, look no further. Sure, the traditional interiors may not be everyone’s cup of tea and two guests will sleep on the sofa bed at full capacity, but you’ll find everything needed for a relaxing stay here. And for those who enjoy a spot of retail therapy, you’ll find Milan, Como, and the Fox Town in Mendrisio just a short drive away.

If you're looking for tranquillity and amazing views of Lake Como – look no further than this romantic retreat. Enjoy the vistas from Como to Cernobbio and Villa d'Este up to the picturesque villages of Moltrasio and Carate Urio from your private balcony with a glass of wine. You can admire the Lario (the local name of Lake Como) from the living room and the double bedroom on the mezzanine too. There's also a large, shared veranda here where you can have meals.

Location-wise, there are a variety of local eateries and artisan shops or take a ride over to the city of Como where you’ll find an array of attractions. Or you can immerse yourself in nature with the many hiking trails through the forests here.

If you’ve ever fleetingly imagined another life for yourself – drinking espresso in your stylish Italian apartment as the sun streams in through the tall windows, maybe – then welcome to your Como abode. Framed by wooden shutters, the wonderful huge windows define every room, letting light dapple over the beautiful parquet floor. Period and contemporary pieces blend to give this home its tasteful yet welcoming feel – see the wooden dining table with accompanying designer chairs. And with air conditioning and an in-home washing machine, there’s no compromise on functionality. The huge living space is great for hanging out after a day of sightseeing, and we love the super squishy corner sofa. Crucially, the home is right in the heart of the pedestrian part of the city. You're right next to Palazzo Garibaldi, and plenty of restaurants, shops, bars. It's a short walk to the waterfront promenade too – we've taken longer to polish off a gelato.

Positioned close to the centre of the lakeside town of Cernobbio, this light and spacious apartment keeps good company, a stone's throw from some of Lake Como's most illustrious villas.

The open-plan interior is chic and contemporary, which will appeal to lovers of an uncluttered, minimalist aesthetic. Head through to the two bedrooms and you'll discover that they follow a similar ethos, with gold accents adding a touch of glamour to proceedings.

Step outside and discover Villa Bernasconi just steps away – one of the best examples of Art Nouveau architecture in the whole of Italy. Walk towards the lake and you'll encounter Villa Erba, which is used to host some of the most exclusive events in the world, as well as making cameos in the occasional Hollywood movie. For the outdoorsy types, Cernobbio is the jumping-off point for many picturesque mountain hikes including the eighty-eight mile Via dei Monti Lariani, though you're more than welcome just to do a small section.

This contemporary apartment is located in Via Tommaso Grossi in Como, offering panoramic views of the city and lake from the communal rooftop terrace. We love the sleek interiors of this home, which provides a comfortable stay for a family or group of friends. Just note – as a party of five, two people will draw the short straw and sleep on the sofa bed in the living room. Still, it’s a sacrifice we’d be willing to make for this pad’s enviable location. If the views tempt you out for a meander, you’ll find Como at your feet just waiting to be explored.

Beautiful Lake Como is just 100 metres from this home, while other attractions nearby include the pretty Giardini del Tempio Voltiano with its museum, just over a five-minute walk away. Or head to Como Cathedral and Basilica di San Fedele – both are around five minutes on foot. There are a variety of cafés and restaurants for lunch on your doorstep, or head back to this elegant apartment.

Situated in the heart of Como, the apartment is within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and, most importantly, the lake. There's no better place to see the sights, though with on-site parking, you can explore further afield with ease. As far as design goes, the apartment is contemporary and practical. It lacks some homey touches, but it boasts all the essentials. We're big fans of the small balcony, too. Just note that two guests will sleep on a sofa bed in the living area.

This apartment is New-York-style loft living in the centre of Como. It’s brimming with inspiration for creative types, from the picturesque surroundings of Lake Como (easily explored by water taxi) to the architecturally marvellous interior. The open bathroom won’t be for everyone – with a huge rainfall shower in the centre of the open loft and a spa-like bath enclosed. But there’s a standard shower room with a door for those who prefer privacy. It feels like an old warehouse in the vast, open living space with a sleek chrome kitchen, banquet-sized dining table and desks to work remotely. Art and books take centre stage, strewn about the room with a TV on the floor like an afterthought.

The city of Como is a fantastic place to base yourself to explore some of the small lakeside settlements. It boasts a vibrant atmosphere, outstanding eateries and bougie boutiques, all within a stone's throw of your front door. Stroll a short distance to the harbour, where local ferries depart for the likes of Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio. In addition, active types might want to head into the mountains for scenic hikes, where each turn reveals ever more spectacular views.

One glance at those Lake Como views and you'll fall in love with this cosy and romantic flat. There's nothing better than sitting around the dining table, sipping wine, nibbling on antipasti and watching the water ebb and flow out the window. The soothing atmosphere of the bedrooms will help you relax after your journey, while there's a good amount of storage space so you can unpack and settle in. The main bedroom even finds room for a desk and enjoys access to an en-suite shower room.

When you're not sunbathing and swimming in the lake, explore the surrounding village of Laglio. With slopes full of vineyards and olive groves, and pastel-coloured villas, it's one of the most elegant lakeside locations. But don't take our word for it. George Clooney purchased his nearby eighteenth-century estate back in 2002 and still returns multiple times a year, some two decades later.

This home is also just a two-minute walk from bus and ferry stops, making exploring cities like Como, Bellagio, and Tremezzo easy.

If you are looking to stay within the narrow streets of the historic centre of Como, this home occupies an entire floor of a historic building. When you stay at this apartment, you'll be just a short walk from the shores of Lake Como and the Saint Mary Assunta Cathedral. Of course, with such a great location, you'll probably hear a bit of street noise here. This home has a long, narrow balcony overlooking the shared courtyard, ideal for getting a spot of fresh air. Inside it's modern and fresh, and there's a well-equipped kitchen for creating some tasty Italian cuisine. This apartment is ideal for a family or friends looking for a well-located holiday home.

Sightseeing is a breeze at this apartment in the heart of Como. Whether you're keen to explore on foot or head out on the water, you couldn't ask for a better position in the town. But aside from the setting, we love how bright, cosy, and comfortable this apartment is. It seamlessly blends the traditional with the modern – think exposed brick fireplace, stained glass windows, and terracotta floors. The cherry on top is the private terrace, where you can sit with a glass of wine and enjoy the evening sunshine.

Nestled in the heart of Como, this home has elegance running through its core. Ideal for a small family or group of friends, this apartment is kitted out with everything for a relaxing stay. But, the cherry on top for us is the location. Mere steps from the Duomo and the tranquil shores of Lake Como, ticking off the city’s hotspots is easy here. 

Como Calling

Located on a picturesque square in the centre of Como, this apartment is a playful mixture of tradition and modernity. You only have to look at the sleek kitchen island sitting underneath wooden ceiling beams, or the stone basin in an otherwise contemporarily styled bathroom to see what we mean.

The stark white walls, large windows and generous amount of space make the interior feel light and airy. However, if opening the shutters isn't quite cooling enough for you, there's always the option of stepping out onto the home's private terrace, which has a corner bench on which to enjoy warm summer evenings.

There are plenty of wine bars and restaurants in the adjoining square and the surrounding streets, but perhaps the most important thing to note is that the southern bank of Lake Como can be reached in barely a minute's walk. From this excellent position, it's so easy to fill your days with boat trips, mountain rambles and dips in the crystalline waters.



A Month by the Lake

This home, while compact, still oozes grandeur. The lovely high ceilings and multiple huge windows play a part. But there are other carefully considered details that give this apartment some extra oomph – light fittings are bold as brass, while the marble floor tiles and polished granite tabletop add some serious class. The ice machine in the high-spec kitchen is perfect for that cold Aperol Spritz you’ll be sipping by the window in the sunshine. In the lounge, the wall-mounted TV comes preloaded with Netflix, but there are restaurants and bars aplenty right on your doorstep as you’re right on the main square, so you might never reach for the remote. Even better, the serene shore of Lake Como is only a short stroll away, so hop in a water taxi and explore the pretty villas and villages of the lakeside. Return to your decadent floral bedroom where the marble in the en-suite adds to the glam.

Turtle Dove Retreat

This apartment in Como is a ten-minute stroll from the lake. Exploring here is easy – shops and restaurants are nearby, as is the ferry for excursions further afield. Want to sightsee in style? Your host is happy to arrange classic car hire, boat charters, and other fun experiences to make your getaway extra special. It isn't the biggest apartment, especially with two guests sharing a sofa bed. The kitchen is also compact and lacks an oven. However, the bedroom has a desk and plenty of storage space, and the location is top-notch. We think it's a good choice for couples or small families who enjoy spending their days out and about.

A Como Tune

Lake Como has become something of a celebrity hotspot, and we can't blame them – there’s no place we'd rather be for a relaxed escape. While a little less humble than Madonna's lakeside villa, you can get a slice of the star's lifestyle by staying in this renovated top-floor apartment, with a terrace overlooking the terracotta rooftops of Como city. A romantic spot, with its grey and white scheme, chandeliers and opulent queen-size bed, it makes the perfect northern Italian break for two. It's within easy reach of lakeside restaurants, walking routes and boat trips. Thick stone walls keep it warm in winter and cool in summer, but there’s also air conditioning, so you can always escape the midday heat. Should you ever need a little more action, it’s just an hour’s drive to Milan’s main airports and into the city itself, for shopping, restaurants and unmissable sights like the Duomo.
