There are several spots to look out over the turquoise water here – perfect for alfresco dining or a sunset cocktail. You'll even find an outdoor Jacuzzi to retire to once it's dark. Indoors, we weren't as keen on the simple decor, but everything you'll need for an extended stay is there. If you tire of days at the beach – and given the home provides access to kayaks, we'll wonder if you will – you'll find the historic towns of Sava and Taranto a short drive away.

If you’re after a base for a coastal Italian getaway, this apartment situated right by the beach of Campomarino is a great choice. You’ll have a huge private terrace with sun loungers and an alfresco dining area and a hot outdoor shower. As well as accessing the beach directly from the villa, you can also walk to the local shops and restaurants. Bear in mind that you’ll need to climb stairs to reach the entrance of this home.

The villas are modern and comfortable, equipped with everything you’ll need for a relaxing stay. We recommend hiring a car to get the most out of your stay – beautiful Campomarino beach is a seven-minute drive away.

Set less than one hundred metres from Ceglie Messapica's bustling pedestrianised hub and just an easy drive from the coast and Ostuni, the location of this apartment is spot-on. While the period home's vaulted ceilings and exposed stonework are impressive, there are a few compromises to make. Expect a small kitchenette that's better suited to lighter bites rather than large slap-up meals, and there's no outdoor space to speak of. But for a bolthole this characterful, we can forgive that.

When you get hungry, you can head to the kitchen and cook up your favourite pasta dishes using fresh local ingredients. And, there's no better place to serve up your culinary creations than outside on the patio, as you breathe in the fresh air and admire the lush greenery surrounding you. 

When you fancy a day trip, there are plenty of places to visit in the surrounding area. The magnificent white city of Ostuni is around twenty minutes away by car, where you can stroll through the labyrinthine old quarter. The hilltop town of Martina Franca is around twenty-five minutes away, and if you fancy a day at the beach then you can drive to the coast in just over half an hour.

Given your proximity to the Ionian Coast, it’s a breeze to reach beaches, and you can also visit Lecce and its Baroque architecture – it’s only 20 kilometres away. It’s bright and attractive, with a calming colour palette of white and wood. Outside, you can admire sunsets from the furnished terrace and splash about in the private pool. Spend your days relishing the communal outdoor spaces, lounging beneath cloudless skies, tucking into long alfresco lunches and swimming in the elegant free-form pool – there's plenty of room for everyone to enjoy.

Set out for a day at the coast, sunning yourself on the rocky shores of Torre Suda in between cooling dips and snorkelling sessions in crystal-clear waters. If you prefer your beaches a little sandier, you've got options a few minutes north of Mancaversa. Had your fill of sun and sea for the day? Spend the late afternoon wandering the winding streets of Gallipoli's old town with a gelato in hand before stopping off for a pre-dinner aperitivo gazing out over the Ionian Sea.

This cluster of Trulli homes is like a fairytale illustration come to life. Each bone-white stone structure is home to a separate bedroom, kitchen and living room, with the outside space connecting them all together. Inside, comfy beds are nestled in archways and circular rooms have bare stone walls for an authentic feel. There’s no shortage of mod-cons though, with flatscreen TVs and desks for remote working if you need.

Really, though, this place was made for outdoor living, making the most of the sunny climes of Italy’s heel. There’s a full outdoor kitchen with a traditional stone bread oven, and myriad places to dine in the sun or shade – the choice is yours. Seats in the shade of ancient olive trees provide a moment’s respite. But the piece de resistance has to be the covered hot tub, surrounded by sun loungers to dry off after.

The location is a boon too, just outside the centre of one of Puglia’s prettiest towns – Locorotondo. A cluster of white medieval churches makes up the historic hilltop centre, where winding cobbled streets are filled with family-run trattoria and slow-food eateries. The UNESCO town of Ostuni is also within day-trip distance if you have a car.

Rustic in design and classy in nature, this apartment emulates the magic of a secret hideaway, oozing traditional features that you would expect from a chic Italian home. Our favourite spot is the undercover outdoor space, with a delightful hot tub lined with candles. With a seating area making up the rest of the space, a morning coffee or relaxed dinner alfresco would be a lovely way to while away a few hours in this special place. 
 
Inside, it is just as charming – the traditional Italian floor tiling is a masterpiece in itself. Coupled with white-wash walls and stone ceilings, there are elements that will make you think of a grand cathedral. Cool and comfortable, the bedrooms are a lovely peaceful sanctuary from the daytime sun. We love how there is a gentle nod to contemporary style with backlighting on some stunning antique features.
 
On your doorstep, you will be greeted by many restaurants. Follow the smell of garlic and a large bowl of pasta, with a bottle of chilled wine, will await. The traditional features of your home-away-from-home are mirrored beautifully as you meander through the local cobbled streets, which are equally as charming as they are sophisticated. Everything you would want from an Italian stay.

Tucked into the serene countryside of Monopoli, this beautiful holiday home is made up of a series of trulli and lamie. It’s a superb choice for an authentic Puglian escape, just a ten-minute drive from the centre of Monopoli and close to the coast’s beaches. The home features an expansive patio with an outdoor kitchen and barbecue, as well as an oh-so-tempting private pool. Inside, we love the traditional touches and the modern comforts. This home has everything you might need for a relaxing break in southern Italy.

Immersed in the natural beauty of Salento, this historic Masseria opens its doors to a unique Italian escape. Originally built as a farmhouse, the rooms have been restored into a peaceful sanctuary while retaining the original character. Outside, you can lounge under olive trees, swim in the pool and sip drinks on the veranda. It’s also possible to hold special events here (on request) and your host can help organise a range of sweet extras – including a private chef and a welcome hamper.
