Combining stone walls and wooden beams with modern furnishings and stylish decor, this one offers a unique stay experience with plenty of luxury touches to boot. 

We particularly love the contemporary modular sofa, artistic lighting and Asian wall art that blends with the handmade wood and antique fireplace to create a well-balanced, zen space to relax after an explorative day driving up and down the winding hillside roads. Cook up a storm in the sleek kitchen, before tucking into a big group meal in the dining room with funky decorative details – like the wooden bookshelves and Asian-influenced objects. 

But while we adore the interiors, our favourite spot has to be down by the glistening pool. Whether you're enjoying an alfresco lunch on the covered terrace, cooling off with a quick dip in the pool, or enjoying an aperitif under the canopy, you'll be able to admire the incredible green vistas. 

When you're ready to explore, there's a host of charming hamlets and villages to discover, including Volterra and Pomarance – both less than thirty minutes' drive away.

Don’t be thrown by the neon pool umbrellas – everything else about this villa is pure class. Set in two square kilometres of gardens, with manicured lawns, fragrant herbs and towering cypress trees, it’s an imposing Tuscan country home, with two wings and a separate annexe. Found in Casino di Terra in Pisa province, its style could be described as “typically Tuscan”, with its whitewashed walls and terracotta tiles, bare stonework and exposed beams, making for a relaxing, traditional vibe. The two wing set-up makes it great for two families to share, especially as there’s a good mixture of double and single beds (including three rooms where you can choose to zip them together or separate them to suit). Throw in the pool area, with its outdoor shower and nighttime illumination, stone barbecue and a poolside portico for outdoor dining in all weathers, and you’ve got the makings of a seriously nice Italian holiday.

The villa may have the stone facade and arched windows of a traditional Tuscan farmhouse, but the wall of glass in the living and dining room is a testament to the 21st century. There’s more than enough room for the group to spread out and dine together at two banquet-sized tables inside. Unwind beneath a brick vaulted ceiling in the evening. Days can be spent riding the horses from the stable, exploring the area by E-bike, or taking a cookery class at the restaurant, where you might learn how to make fresh pasta or cantuccini. On more relaxed afternoons, treat yourself to a spa or beauty treatment – there is nothing more serene than a massage in the garden, with a gentle breeze and a soundtrack of cicadas.

Out here in the Tuscan countryside, you can live the rustic idyll where days are spent reading a book in the shade of an olive tree or dining as a group outside in the shade of a pergola. The highlight inside has to be the farmhouse-style kitchen with its electric oven that looks like the bread ovens of old and marble-topped counters against exposed stone walls. The barrel-vaulted dining room harks back to days gone by and throughout you’ll find wooden ceilings and terracotta floors. The living room is a surprisingly sleek and modern space, but the bedrooms – with wrought-iron frames against crisp white walls – are back to Tuscan rusticana. 

You’re out in the rolling hills of southern Tuscany here, but it’s a short hop in the car to Pomarance where you’ll find supermarkets for supplies, and a healthy handful of pizzerias, local bars and coffee shops.

A modern build, the home was finished back in 2002 and thanks to its high-quality finishings and construction techniques, it doesn't appear to have aged a day. Built around 1900 and fully restored in recent years, it's now a regal country home surrounded by glorious grounds of around three hectares, with wheat fields, olive groves, cypresses and flower borders.

The stunning views are best enjoyed from the many balconies and terraces, or from the beautiful infinity pool with its built-in hot tub, while other fabulous perks outside include the vegetable garden, chicken coop and children's treehouse, along with outdoor table tennis, a five-a-side football pitch and private fishing lake. 

Inside, it's a traditional and elegant home, with classical furnishings and tasteful decor. We love the period features like the terracotta floors, beamed ceilings, archways and fireplace, while the pretty country kitchen is enough to make any keen cook smile. The bedrooms are all romantic and comfortable, dressed with antique furniture and each boasting its own bathroom. Plus, there's an extensive wine cellar and, if you're a fitness fan, there's even a fully equipped gym in the nearby building.

If you don't feel like cooking, there's an on-site chef who can be hired to take care of it for you or you can arrange for some Tuscan cooking classes – paired with excellent local wine.
