The verdant green garden is enclosed by an old stone wall and within the grounds, you’ll find a shaded olive grove and an orchard furnished with hanging chairs and bistro tables to seclude yourself away. We love the barbecue area where an old well has been turned into an innovative grill, there’s a cast-iron bread oven and plenty of prep space for the chef of the group to tinker away. 

The highlight inside has to be the farmhouse-style kitchen with its electric oven that looks like the bread ovens of old and marble-topped counters against exposed stone walls. The barrel-vaulted dining room harks back to days gone by and throughout you’ll find wooden ceilings and terracotta floors. The living room is a surprisingly sleek and modern space, but the bedrooms – with wrought-iron frames against crisp white walls – are back to Tuscan rusticana. 

You’re out in the rolling hills of southern Tuscany here, but it’s a short hop in the car to Pomarance where you’ll find supermarkets for supplies, and a healthy handful of pizzerias, local bars and coffee shops.

Explore the shops, restaurants, piazzas, cafés, 12th-century Romanesque church, elegant 19th-century buildings, and the remains of fortresses in the historic town centre, just a fifteen-minute walk away.

This home is ideal for a group of friends or family who want privacy as upstairs are two mini-apartments connected internally to the main house but with a separate entrance from the mezzanine floor. On the ground floor, there's also a suite with independent access – here, you'll find a kitchenette and bathroom, as well as a bedroom.

Situated in the Val di Cecina, you'll find unspoilt countryside, dotted with gorgeous towns such as Volterra, eighteen minutes in the car. There are many Roman remains to visit, like the Roman Theatre, or take some photos of the central Palazzo dei Priori with its medieval frescoes and a bell tower. All in all, this home will make your Tuscan holiday dreams come true.

This refurbished farmhouse is essentially two homes in one, perfect for two families travelling together. Both segments of the house have three bedrooms, each with direct access to the lush garden. In the living room, floor-to-ceiling windows lead out to the courtyard and lawns, where there’s a private pool and a pond – ideal for game fishing (provided that the fish is thrown back into the water). The interiors pay homage to the home’s initially intended purpose, as a clubhouse for horse riders to relax in, with paintings of horses adorning the walls, and furnishings that have an old-world charm. Despite the antique bed frames and Moroccan rugs, the home itself feels modern, particularly the suspended fireplace in the heart of the living room, and the sleek kitchen flanked by iron columns and picture-frame windows. Your neighbours are of the equine variety, and with stables next door, guests can book horseback riding lessons, and take a trail ride out on the iconic Tuscan landscape.

In the undulating Tuscan countryside, this villa sits atop a hill, right on the ancient oil and wine route through olive groves and vineyards. It’s a fifteen-minute drive from Volterra, a medieval walled town with plenty of farm-to-table restaurants and old churches to explore. And Siena is just under an hour’s drive for a day trip.

Panoramic views take centre stage outdoors, where raised terraces can provide shaded spots for meals outside. From a poolside lounger, you can admire the forest-clad hills around you, before slipping into the turquoise pool to cool off from the sun. Aperitivo is best served on the first-floor terrace, where comfy seating looks out over the countryside.

The villa may have the stone facade and arched windows of a traditional Tuscan farmhouse, but the wall of glass in the living and dining room is a testament to the 21st century. There’s more than enough room for the group to spread out and dine together at two banquet-sized tables inside. Unwind beneath a brick vaulted ceiling in the evening. Chefs will feel right at home in the kitchen – all chrome and steel like the professional kitchens of a Michelin-starred restaurant, but with a wood-topped pasta-making table straight out of a 19th-century farmhouse.

We particularly love the contemporary modular sofa, artistic lighting and Asian wall art that blends with the handmade wood and antique fireplace to create a well-balanced, zen space to relax after an explorative day driving up and down the winding hillside roads. But while we adore the interiors, our favourite spot has to be down by the glistening pool. Whether you're enjoying an alfresco lunch on the covered terrace, cooling off with a quick dip in the pool, or enjoying an aperitif under the canopy, you'll be able to admire the incredible green vistas. 

When you're ready to explore, there's a host of charming hamlets and villages to discover, including Volterra and Pomarance – both less than thirty minutes' drive away.

The home is set amongst rolling hills and close to Volterra, one of the most picturesque villages in the region. However, our favourite seat in the house can be found by the swimming pool – it boasts spectacular panoramic views and is enclosed by a hedge for privacy. Gather with friends over a meal or share stories beside a roaring fire. In the evening, families can disperse and enjoy their own space in separate buildings. It’s worth noting you will need a car to get around here, but it’s just a short drive to Volterra (20 kilometres away), while San Gimignano and Siena are also within driving distance.

This elegant home in Tuscany is in a dreamy spot in a valley, in a countryside setting that leads to absolute relaxation. The villa is full of character, with antique furniture and wooden beams, in addition to mesmerising views. 

The outside space is lush and pretty. Roses and lavender have been planted alongside a wealth of trees, making the garden feel like an oasis. In the morning, sip coffee at the table under the gazebo, admiring the views and planning your day. If you’re anything like us, you won’t be able to resist a dip in the hedge-lined swimming pool for long. Dry off on a sun lounger with a good book, or start a table tennis tournament with your friends. 

In the evening, set up outside at the long dining table. You might like to arrange for a local chef to come and cook for you – that way you can enjoy a cocktail hour on the terrace before dining as the sun sets beyond the valley. 

The villa is only a short walk along the river to the centre of peaceful Poggibonsi, so you can easily dine out in the local restaurants or grab a gelato. The interior combines rustic charm with contemporary comforts and, in true Tuscan style, is cloaked in a calming veil of warm earthy tones and natural textures. Step inside and discover a light-filled canvas of exposed brick walls, terracotta-tiled floors and lofty ceilings adorned with striking timber beams. We love the open-plan living area, a free-flowing space primed for relaxation with ample seating, a delightfully-equipped country kitchen and a majestic stone fireplace. Down the hall, three sumptuous sleeping quarters promise restful slumbers and, through timber-framed windows, postcard-worthy views of your glorious surroundings.

Outside, the peaceful shared courtyard, furnished with dining furniture and a hot tub, beckons you to unwind in the sun. Enjoy an alfresco breakfast here before a day of adventure. Take a stroll through the town, enjoy a morning swim in the Merse River, or hike through the wooded Alto Merse Nature Reserve, just twenty minutes away on foot. 

Escaping Time

​​Restored by an Italian architect with a gentle touch, this villa has been updated and split into more modern apartments, but without ever compromising on the original charm. By honouring the villa's history – and thereby retaining its character – the home feels traditionally Tuscan with its terracotta tiles and wooden beams. Walk barefoot across the floors to savour the coolness of those tiles on hot days, or light a fire in the wood-burning stove and stare up at the beams, imagining what life would’ve been like here. Nonnas rolling out pastry for tortellini, children helping churn gelato, wine flowing, and bowls of food changing hands in a celebration of ingredients, and life. You might even wish to recreate that – a holiday well spent.

Alternatively, spend lazy afternoons sitting under the vines outside as you watch the sunset on the horizon. Head out to authentic Italian pizzerias for pizza and gnocchi, or make a gelato run before exploring the surroundings.

The sprawling grounds of this Tuscan villa are home to woodland walks where you can spot birds, a big private pool for cooling dips and lots of different places to dine and unwind out in nature. Inside, the traditional decor won’t be for everyone – the kitchen feels a little dated, but it’s got everything you need for big group meals, and the ramshackle collection of sofas and armchairs is homely. There’s a ground-floor bedroom and bathroom adapted for accessibility, but the rest of the bedrooms are up a twisting stone staircase. Location-wise, it’s in the Chianti hills, surrounded by vineyards, and Florence is just a few kilometres away.

With direct access to Padulella Beach, this villa guarantees a memorable stay on the island of Elba. Outdoor living is encouraged here, thanks to the summer kitchen complete with a wood oven, infinity pool and a covered terrace overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. There’s a rustic approach to the interiors, which we find charming, and we love the sunken Jacuzzi in the main bedroom. Hiring a car is recommended if you fancy exploring the island – let your first stop be Portoferraio, a six-minute drive away.


Sunny Shore

Overlooking the Tuscan countryside from its hillside position, this rustic villa boasts some incredible views – best celebrated from the outside dining area and elegant infinity pool. We think it's a great fit for families with a lovely private garden as well as flexible sleeping arrangements – the twin beds can be converted into doubles upon request. Keen cooks will love the modern chef's kitchen for preparing alfresco suppers – though if you feel like dining out, the nearby village of Volpaia and the market town of Radda are both just a short drive away. You will need to hire a car to get around here, and the drive will often be hilly and uneven. 

The Olive Tint

For a taste of authentic Tuscan living, this holiday home is a great choice. This apartment is one of six, renovated from a 15th-century structure by a historically conscious architect. The result of the renovation is an apartment that boasts classic Tuscan design with modern amenities and comfort – you can dine beneath wooden beams and stay cool thanks to the terracotta tiles. 

Outside, a pretty patio boasts a wood-fired pizza oven and alfresco seating. After a day spent in the sunshine, it’s delightful to sit in the shade of the trees and sip local wine while the aroma of pizza fills the air. 

This is a restful home on the outskirts of the village of Brenna, which is just five minutes away on foot. If you need to cool down, you might stroll five minutes to Stazione Balneare Merse where you can swim from the river beach. And what a setting it is, the views of the Tuscan countryside are beautiful – enjoy them from the swimming pool (heated for a fee) and the hot tub. Inside, there's plenty of room to entertain your family or friends, and if you must work while on holiday, well there are a couple of workstations in two bedrooms. We'd also recommend a car to get the most out of the area. You'll find Volterra 14 kilometres and San Gimignano 18 kilometres away.

Spend the day at Constanti winery – this is where your host works, so she will be more than happy to give you a tour of the place. Beautiful vineyards surround the loft and a wide range of wineries to sample some of the tastiest glasses of red.

After you've eaten, pick a book off of the shelf, and snuggle up on the sofa while the moonlight shines through the windows. This charming apartment is in the old town of Colle di Val d'Elsa, a typically medieval region of Tuscany famous for crystal glass production. It’s a ten-minute stroll into the centre where you’ll find restaurants, cafés and archaeological museums beyond the ancient town walls. Further afield, the city of Siena is a half-hour drive away, ideal for a day trip.

The apartment itself is housed in a striking 16th-century building just outside the bridge that leads to il Castello. Wood beams on display hark back to the building’s roots, but the decor is decidedly modern. Vibrant modern art is displayed above the plush, L-shaped sofa and the kitchen is a sleek space of white cabinets. The best bit is the view from French-style windows, which shows off golden fields and hills, even though you’re a short walk from the town centre.
