The apartment is a grand family home, with traditional touches like the wood-beamed ceilings. It’s on the fourth floor, and from the windows you can see a pretty skyscape of Venetian rooftops all the way to the Grand Canal. Even more amazingly for Venice, this building has an elevator so those four floors are no trouble at all. 

Take your morning coffee on the balcony, then head out to explore the city. The Vaporetto stop at Santa Maria del Giglio is five minutes from the apartment, so it’s easy to get out on the lagoon. The glorious views from Ponte dell’Accademia can be found just five minutes away, while Piazza San Marco is a ten-minute stroll. Rialto Bridge is nine minutes from the apartment – stroll across it with a gelato for a cheeky touristy moment. 

Calle XXII Marzo, an upmarket avenue of high-end boutiques, is just seven minutes from the apartment. Whether you’re flashing the cash or window shopping, it’s worth a wander.

This charming apartment boasts a rare feature that sets it – quite literally – above the rest. Climb the stairs from the third bedroom and arrive on the roof terrace, from which you can devour a magnificent view of Venice’s skyline, including St Mark’s Campanile. Because of this terrace, this home isn’t suitable for children under the age of 6, but it’s ideal for families with older children, and for groups of friends. Step inside, and you'll be enchanted by the traditional touches throughout the home, from the wooden ceiling beams to the lavish, vintage-inspired beds. The kitchen is well-equipped with all the utensils you could need to practice your favourite Italian dishes – and, once you're finished cooking, you can serve up your culinary creations at the chic dining table. There's also a desk where you can catch up on work, along with a comfy sofa that invites you to flop down with a glass of wine after a busy day. 

Many of Venice's most famous landmarks are right on your doorstep, meaning it couldn't be easier to tick off your sightseeing list. The slightly dated decor aside, this apartment makes for a great central base in Venice, with views of the Grand Canal and Santa Lucia train station handily just a bridge away. You’ve also got a plethora of nearby vaporetto (water bus) stops nearby to take you to St Mark’s Square, Rialto Bridge, Lido, or directly to the airport, making it perfect for those with a tightly packed itinerary. While its location is definitely a strong point, the home isn’t without its merits. The views are a plus, the parquet floors and arched windows add old-world charm, and we’re particularly smitten with the tiled en-suite bathroom with its swish rainfall shower. 


The Red Doge

A perfect mix of elegance and warmth, this classic-contemporary apartment offers comfortable living in the heart of Venice’s Dorsoduro district. We loved the dark wood floors, oak ceiling beams, rich red accents and wrought iron details. There’s a spacious living area for regrouping before dinner plans and a cosy mezzanine level for enjoying quiet moments with a good book. If you’re a fan of cooking, the fully-equipped kitchen has everything you need for putting together Italian-inspired dishes but when you fancy hanging up your chef’s apron, head over to Al Profeta, a lovely pizzeria, only a ten-minute walk from your doorstep.

The famous Piazza San Marco is an eight-minute water bus ride away. Get your culture fix at the Basilica and Museo Correr before drifting along the Grand Canal on a gondola. Stop for an aperitivo in one of Venice’s glitzy rooftop bars or go for a more informal setting at Osteria All’Arco, a local favourite next to the Rialto Bridge.

For somewhere between San Marco and the Rialto bridge, A Call for Calm is remarkably quiet. It’s far from the main thoroughfares, the narrow alleyways that nevertheless carry tens of thousands of tourists to and from St. Mark’s Square every day. It’s also, location aside, a lovely place to stay. The hefty beams stand out, but every part of the design works perfectly together, and while it can only hold three people, Mario looks after a couple of other places in the building, so larger groups can look at potential combinations.


A Call For Calm

This apartment can be found in the chic and central San Marco area of Venice. The city’s main attractions, including the Rialto Bridge, Grand Canal, and St Mark’s Square, are within easy walking distance. We recommend resting your feet by seeing the sights from the water though – you’re in Venice after all. Rialto and Sant’Angelo vaporetto stops are nearby, so you can zip around the canals with ease. The home itself is traditional and fairly grand – you can look forward to Murano chandeliers and terrazzo flooring. With a building this old, you won’t find a lift, so it’s best to pack light. 

The Venetian Oasis

This classy penthouse apartment offers plenty of space in the centre of Venice. Just two minutes walk from the Vaporetto stop, simply jump on the water bus to explore famous landmarks and delicious eateries. Set over two floors, this home can comfortably sleep seven people thanks to a sofa bed on the mezzanine level. Inside you’ll find antiques and wooden beams, which only add to the home’s character, as well as two terraces that offer panoramic views over the city’s rooftops. Opera fans will appreciate the building's proximity to the Fenice Theatre – one of the finest opera houses in the world. 


Little Book

Set in a serene spot near the Convent of the Eremite, this Venetian apartment drops you in a prime position for exploring the city. Peaceful yet close to many restaurants, shops, and attractions such as the Ca' Rezzonico Museum of 18th Century Art, you won’t find yourself lost for things to do here. You’ll need to climb the stairs to the first floor to access this fuss-free home, so it may not be the right fit for those with mobility issues. But peek out of the windows at the canal views and you’ll find the climb worth it.

On the top floor of a 16th-century palace right on the Grand Canal, this one-of-a-kind apartment enjoys bespoke furnishings from a range of designers, including the owner. While not the best option for families with young children due to the vintage and delicate furniture, it's a great choice for couples or solo travellers. The central location is the icing on the cake – the views over Santa Maria dei Frari are lovely. The train station is a short walk away and you're right next to a water taxi stop. Practically backing onto the Grand Canal and a ten-minute walk from Santa Lucia train station, it doesn’t get much more central than this old-world apartment in Venice. You’ve got history on all sides, with a view over the Church, Campo and Rio de San Degolà to the front and the Salizada Dei Fondaco Dei Turchi to the back. 

Housed in what was once the monastery attached to the ancient Church of San Degolà (one of the oldest in Venice), you can still feel the history of this place in the towering ceilings and traditional Venetian terrazzo flooring. Sitting on the other side of the Grand Canal directly opposite Venezia Santa Lucia, this is a superb starting point from which to explore this unique city. More than that, however, it's an excellent home in its own right, too.

A little more contemporary than many other dwellings you'll find nearby, there's still a taste of tradition in the antique furnishings, the wooden doors that line the main living space and the prettily tiled terrace that lies on the other side. Otherwise, the design is fairly minimalist, with stark white walls and parquet flooring, plus a sleek kitchen that may be a little basic, but will more than suffice for modest meals.

Of course, if cooking isn't on the agenda, there's a good selection of restaurants and bars in the nearby Santa Croce neighbourhood that will keep you fuelled up. Many of the must-see attractions – including the Santa Maria cathedral and the Ca' Pesaro International Gallery of Modern Art – are easily reachable on foot, too.

A Sojourn So Serene

This penthouse places you right on Venice's Grand Canal in Dorsoduro. The style is a little old-fashioned and we think the balcony could do with a bit of a refresh, but you'll have space for alfresco dining and the views over the city are gorgeous. Every bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom and one of the beds can be configured as a double or twin upon request, making it ideal for families and friend groups alike. You might hear some outside noise here, but you'll find a range of restaurants, museums, and water stops in the surrounding area for traversing the city with ease.

Opera lovers will be over the moon to learn that Teatro La Fenice is a mere three-minute saunter. This chic little apartment is a great base in Venice. It’s away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas, standing proudly in a salmon-pink palazzetto in upmarket San Samuele. The neighbourhood – once home to Casanova – is home to antique shops and galleries, including the Palazzo Grassi Museum of Modern Art. It’s a nice touch, and works really well. Given the layout of the bedrooms, it feels like it would work particularly well for families, and the proximity to all the main attractions backs that up.

Silk sofas in the living room are not just easy on the eye, they’re plush and comfy to boot. And the antique bed frames and writing desks in the bedrooms are like living, working history. What’s more, the three bedrooms overlooking the owner’s private, walled garden for a peaceful night’s sleep.

The apartment is all wood beams and antique furniture – if you like sleek, modern homes, this isn’t the one for you – but it’s full of character. The living room looks out over the campo and the bell tower of Santo Stefano, which makes sipping pre-dinner drinks at home all the more appealing.
