It’s on the fourth floor, and from the windows you can see a pretty skyscape of Venetian rooftops all the way to the Grand Canal. Even more amazingly for Venice, this building has an elevator so those four floors are no trouble at all. 

Take your morning coffee on the balcony, then head out to explore the city. The Vaporetto stop at Santa Maria del Giglio is five minutes from the apartment, so it’s easy to get out on the lagoon. The glorious views from Ponte dell’Accademia can be found just five minutes away, while Piazza San Marco is a ten-minute stroll. Rialto Bridge is nine minutes from the apartment – stroll across it with a gelato for a cheeky touristy moment. 

Calle XXII Marzo, an upmarket avenue of high-end boutiques, is just seven minutes from the apartment. Whether you’re flashing the cash or window shopping, it’s worth a wander.

It would be reasonable to expect somewhere in San Marco, right by the Grand Canal, to be pretty busy, with streams of tourists winding their way along the streets outside. We can’t stress how little that matches up to the reality of A Call For Quiet. It’s incredibly peaceful, and a wonderful atmosphere to return to after a long day of walking around the city.

In a city with so many incredible accommodation options, you'll know that you made the right choice from the moment you lay your eyes on the jaw-dropping 360-degree views from the rooftop. With Marco Polo Airport and the Dolomites to the North and every tower and rooftop in Venice immediately surrounding you – it's even better than the photos. We'd encourage at least one early morning wake-up call to take in the changing colours as the sun rises, while a sunset Prosecco goes down a treat at the end of a long day of exploring. Once you've disembarked the water taxi and climbed the stairs to the front door, you'll be greeted by a seamless mix of original features and contemporary design. The interior offers an irresistible blend of exposed beams, ornate antique furniture and intricate wood mosaic flooring alongside a Scandinavian-inspired kitchen and modern artwork. The standout feature is, of course, the two outdoor terraces and accompanying views. There's ample outdoor seating so that you can pick a different spot for each meal. Then, having viewed the city from above, it's time to step out on the streets. You're conveniently close to some of Venice's headline highlights – St. Mark's Basilica and adjoining piazza are just a three-minute walk. At the same time, you're only 275m from Rialto Bridge, plus there's a supermarket and plenty of great restaurants and shops right on your doorstep.

La Divinia 

This tranquil Venetian haven is spread over four floors in the city's San Marco district. The rooftop terrace offers space to dine alfresco and some lovely views over the rooftops of the surrounding buildings. There are a lot of stairs here, making it unsuitable for children under the age of 6, but babies and older children are welcome. The main living space is on the second floor with multiple Juliet balconies – they're great for letting the outdoors in, but you won't have room to sit out on them. The kitchen is small, but fear not – there's a range of restaurants within walking distance, as well as vaporetto stops close by for exploring.

For somewhere between San Marco and the Rialto bridge, A Call for Calm is remarkably quiet. It’s far from the main thoroughfares, the narrow alleyways that nevertheless carry tens of thousands of tourists to and from St. Mark’s Square every day. It’s also, location aside, a lovely place to stay. The hefty beams stand out, but every part of the design works perfectly together, and while it can only hold three people, Mario looks after a couple of other places in the building, so larger groups can look at potential combinations.


A Call For Calm

In a salmon-pink old palazzo, this lovely home is a real find. Relax with a glass of Prosecco on the southwest-facing altana, a typical Venetian rooftop terrace, and take in the views over the Venice’s rooftops.
Inside, we love the high-vaulted, loft-style living space with its sun-bleached eau de nil and parched papyrus hues. Take a seat on the L-shaped sofa and plan your Venice itinerary.

This home is in genteel San Samuele, dotted with galleries and antique shops. Palazzo Grassi Museum of Modern Art and Campo Santo Stefano are both a three-minute stroll. St. Mark’s Square is nine minutes on foot, while Palazzo Mocenigo on the Grand Canal, once the Venetian bolthole of romantic poet and literary figure Lord Byron, is fifteen minutes.
