Steps from the apartment is the riverfront, where Porto’s famous wine cellars line the banks, and walking the narrow streets of the neighbourhood you’ll find delights like Palacio Bolta three minutes away, and Mercado Ferreira Borges five minutes on foot. The first thing you’ll notice, stepping into the apartment, is the view directly over the Douro River from the wall of big windows in the living room. Wooden shutters add a touch of tradition, and the darkwood dressers and artfully faded Moroccan rugs are in keeping with the building’s history. Hardwood floors lead from the living room, to the compact kitchen in an alcove and through to the bright bedroom where the exposed stone and big sash window motif continues.

The walls are made from stone, lit up by the daylight that pours in through the large windows in the living space. Amble alongside the Duoro River with an ice cream in hand before watching the world pass by in a charming cafe. In the early evening, we recommend watching the sunset from the nearby Miradouro da Rua das Aldas viewpoint.

Located on one of Porto’s liveliest streets, this studio apartment is very close to the iconic Ribeira which can be reached on foot within seven minutes. A picturesque part of the city, in the heart of the old town, Ribeira is a riverside spot overlooking the Douro River where you can visit Praça da Ribeira square which is lined with colourful 18th-century townhouses, and visit Bolsa Palace, a neoclassical landmark with ornate interiors which is a short three-minute walk from your door. Located only a few minutes from the Clérigos Tower, On The Lookout's rooftop terrace offers a rival view to the Cathedral and downtown architecture. The insides of this home are equally impressive, with a welcoming communal area all dressed in wood. The rustic touches are added in the form of forest animal prints, which adds to the warm ambiance in every room. The terrace is only accessible via the upstairs bedroom, but if that's not too much of an inconvenience, then you're cordially invited to experience the view (and the comfort) for yourself.

You can wander along the riverfront’s picturesque fishing neighbourhoods, hopping on the 1930s tram that runs to Foz. Or, board on a boat that will take you to the famous terraced Douro vineyards to sample Vinho Verde and Port. You’ll be walking distance from beautiful historic buildings, located in one of the quietest streets of Ribeira, and only a thirteen-minute walk from São Bento Railway Station – which will connect you all over the city.

Factor in the Porto-inspired art on the walls as well as the sleek en-suites, and you’ve got everything you need for a relaxing stay. 
 
Outside of your home, you’ve got plenty to see and do within easy walking distance, including Porto Cathedral (thirteen minutes), Livraria Lello (fifteen minutes), Rua Santa Catarina (seven minutes) and the waterfront Cais da Ribeira (eighteen minutes).

Set within a quiet corner of picturesque Ribeira, with Porto's must-see sights within walking distance, this apartment's location is hard to beat. Take your pick from Praça da Ribeira Square, the neoclassical Bolsa Palace or Douro River – it's all just a short stroll away. Back home, the courtyard garden is a nice touch for morning coffees, even though there's not much of a view. However, the Juliet balcony windows overlooking Porto's rooftops from the living room and main bedroom make up for that.

This home is a mere two-minute walk from the iconic Rua das Flores which leads directly towards the Douro River. Other attractions nearby include the Torre dos Clérigos, the nightlife of Galerias de Paris Street and the São Bento Train Station (bear with us with this recommendation, it's one of the most beautiful train stations in Europe). We love this apartment's character features (exposed stone walls, French doors and shutters) mixed with the industrial-style vintage lights and steel staircase leading up to the bedrooms.

Situated in the heart of Downtown Porto, this apartment places you within easy walking distance of the city's top highlights. Visit the Church of Saint Ildefonso, sample local produce at the Mercado do Bolhão, or head to the Douro River for a boat trip. Inside, it's a smart, functional space for your group to spread out, and there's a sofa bed for a fifth guest. The kitchen is compact yet fully equipped for home-cooked dinners, while the enclosed balcony is a nice place to toast the day's end. Just note that you'll need to climb stairs to reach the entrance of this home.

Guests rave about the location of this Porto apartment, and it’s easy to see why. Set in a quiet corner of Ribeira, the Douro River, Praça da Ribeira Square, and neoclassical Bolsa Palace are all just a short stroll away. It’s worth noting if six guests share, two of you will have to make do with a double sofa bed in the living space. Not ideal for some, but it could work great for family sharing. The small inner courtyard is a nice touch for sundowners, and there’s plenty of space to spill out around the dining table for lazy breakfasts of pastel de natas picked up from the nearby bakeries.

Standing at 75 metres in height, this elaborate Baroque masterpiece is not only a steadfast component of Porto's skyline but also the tallest campanile in Portugal. Ascend its two-hundred-and-twenty-five steps and be rewarded with sweeping panoramas across the city's terracotta-tiled rooftops and out towards the endless blue of the Atlantic Ocean.

A rosy-hued Pombaline façade provides the framework for this home, exuding authentic charm from the outset. Perched up high on the third floor, it's delightfully peaceful and boasts a unique vantage point of Porto's cityscape, including the nearby Jardim das Oliveiras. Though compact, the interior feels spacious and inviting thanks to a trio of large windows, ushering in floods of natural light, and a thoughtfully considered open-plan layout. The décor is contemporary with a stylish mid-century-inspired quality, and we especially love the kitchen, fully equipped with home chefs in mind. Spend mornings roosted at the spacious dining table, tucking into coffee and pastries before slipping out to explore.

Forty-Nine Bells

Located just a two-minute stroll from Rua das Flores and a seven-minute walk from Porto Cathedral, this apartment is perfect for sightseeing. If you want to explore the rest of the city, São Bento train station is five minutes on foot. Just remember to bring you're walking shoes, as this home is on a bit of a hill and the apartment is on the first floor, with no lift (there are two flights of stairs to reach the door). But you are rewarded with views of the city's cathedral once you've arrived – take in the vistas from the private balcony. Inside, we love the vaulted ceilings, which add character to this modern home.

This unique studio apartment is tucked away in one of Porto’s most vibrant streets, Rua das Flores. It’s an excellent central base, within easy walking distance of Porto’s main attractions and lively squares. Inside the apartment, you’ll find a charming space ideal for two. It’s a studio but there’s still a decent amount of room, with a separate sitting area and a workspace. It’s sleek and modern, with everything you might need for a comfortable city break.

Located in the heart of vibrant Porto, this bright and welcoming studio apartment is an excellent base for a city break. It’s on the second floor of a building in lively Rua das Flores, within easy walking distance of the city’s main squares and key landmarks. Inside, the studio is stylish, and equipped with everything you might need during your stay. There’s a convenient desk for those in town for business, and there’s more room to spread out than in most central studios. We like the cosy sitting area, as well as the handy kitchenette.

Being a studio flat, you won't find much space here, but with that location, we think you'll be outside more often than not.

Boasting a long, double-height living area with a wonderfully bright and open layout, you'll find it easy to come back and relax after days of sightseeing in Porto. 

We love the enticing space with oak floors, wood beams, and exposed stone walls which make the design feel reassuringly rustic, and yet the contemporary decor adds plenty of modern comforts. The sociable open-plan layout invites chefs of the group to whip up feasts in the kitchen while chatting with others around the dining table or unwinding on the sofa. 

When you’re ready to venture out for some sightseeing, make a beeline for the Church of Saint Ildefonso or the Livraria Lello bookshop nearby, before sauntering a little further on to the Porto Cathedral and the bustling city centre. With countless bars, restaurants and shops along the riverfront, head to the Cais da Ribeira as evening draws in and you’ll get a true taste of the city here.

Along the charming cobbled streets of Porto’s Baixa neighbourhood sits Rustic Tawny, a small but beautifully curated studio apartment. Boasting pastoral architectural features in combination with minimalist interiors, we were not only impressed with the sleek look but more importantly, the comfort provided. On top of that, you’ll be staying in a fabulous location, especially if you’ve never been to Porto before. You're right by the city centre and close to the most important tourist attractions. Of course, it wouldn't be Porto if wonderful cafes didn't also line the streets.

Rustic Tawny

Situated in the charming Ribeiro neighbourhood, a three-minute walk from the neoclassical Palácio da Bolsa and within touching distance of old-school restaurants serving traditional Portuguese fare, this modern and bright apartment is a great base for exploring all that Porto has to offer.

We loved the light-filled living space, with its huge floor-to-ceiling windows and double-height ceilings. A dining table takes centre stage, encouraging lively breakfasts in the morning and hearty suppers in the evening. There’s also a cosy mezzanine level that is the perfect spot for reclining with a glass of wine before retreating to sumptuous bedrooms for an early night. 

Slip into the narrow cobbled streets and begin your sightseeing adventure. The 12th-century Porto Cathedral is six minutes from your doorstep and the Igreja dos Clérigos with its 75-metre-tall bell tower is reached in less than ten. When it’s time to call it a day, make a beeline for the Vitória viewpoint to watch dusk fall across the city.

Delicate and soft, this baby blue apartment has plenty of surprises waiting for you. We're swooning over the features – the coffered ceilings wouldn't be amiss in a royal palace, while the iron on the arched window is intricate and charming. Add in the cushy orange sofa, parquet flooring and decadently tiled bathroom and it's love at first sight. The layout is also unique – technically, it's more of a studio, but a glass wall keeps the bedroom separate from the living space. The kitchen is a little basic, but we don't mind – if anything, it gives you an excuse to sample the many delicious eateries in Porto.  

But the best part, by far, is the excellent location. Palácio da Bolsa is two minutes away, and there are cafes, bars and boutiques aplenty on your doorstep. Pretty much everything is within walking distance – be it markets or museums – so we think a couple or solo traveller will be happy to call this place home. Wander down the famous alleys of Ribeira do Porto (a four-minute walk), grab a cocktail at one of the riverside restaurants or just stroll along the Douro and soak up the magic of Porto.

Perched above the shop-lined Rua das Flores, this apartment boasts a prime location in the city centre. While it's easy to walk to famous landmarks, the São Bento tiled train station awaits at the end of the street if you're going further afield. Whatever brings you to Porto, your host's special services can help you squeeze the most out of your stay for an extra fee – think ticket booking and airport transfers. As for style, we love how this home's beamed ceilings and preserved arches showcase the building's history.

It’s just 300 metres from São Bento metro station, and a ten-minute walk to Trindade station, so getting around is easy as can be. And when you’re not out seeing the sights, there’s plenty to make you happy at your home-from-home. We love the terrace, where you can soak up the sun, stretched out on a lounger. The decor inside is simple but pretty, and you’ll have all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay.

Nestled in the heart of Porto, you’ll find many of the city’s top attractions within easy reach of this home. From here, Clérigos Tower, Igreja do Carmo, and Livraria Lello are a short walk away. And, when you’re keen to travel further afield, with Aliados Metro station just 350 metres away, zipping around the city is a breeze. You’ll need to climb the stairs to this apartment, but on arrival, you’ll find a comfortable space to relax and a private balcony overlooking the Porto rooftops. Just note that there's no oven here, so we'd recommend sampling the local eateries nearby.

Set on the elegant Rua das Flores, this gorgeous two-bedroom flat offers you the perfect base to explore central Porto. Located up on the fourth floor, you'll enjoy breathtaking vistas over the neighbourhood rooftops towards Porto's Romanesque cathedral.

The apartment is simple and functional, with a balcony for sipping sundowners after a day along the Douro River (speak to your host to arrange a tour). While a great choice for those visiting on business, your host can also provide a cot and high chair for little ones, and there’s a sofa bed that could comfortably accommodate two extra guests.

It only feels right that this apartment found in the historic Ribeira neighbourhood of Porto is just as characterful on the inside as the surrounding area. Tropical house plants and an earthy colour scheme work well with the old stone walls, while the floating staircase and glass walls on the mezzanine level help natural light flow around the space. The kitchen and bathroom are full of sleek white surfaces, although the shower has been finished in a loud tesselating pattern to stop the space from feeling too bland. Breakfast can be provided by the host every day if so desired, which includes fresh bread and pastries delivered in the morning. The other piece of good news is that many of Porto's main attractions sit within easy walking distance from the front door. The neoclassical Palácio da Bolsa is three minutes' walk away and the city's cathedral takes seven.

You'll notice the colourful decor that creates a welcoming home, while the exposed stone is a nice touch.
